  1. This was just gonna be a thing about Glib Speed Goals 2017, but then I talked about a whole bunch of other stuff. Like most of the pastebins I write of this magnitude, thoughts are gonna be scattered and mostly uninteresting, so I'll label stuff so you can pick what you wanna read OK(ok).

  3. Speed Goals 2016 Retrospective
  4.
  5. My speed goals for 2016 went... poorly lol. Lots of different things happened, between running a tournament(SMB3), joining 2 other tournaments (MMX, SMW), and a couple other side things popping up (Uniracerslol), I didn't really get a lot of time to focus on the things I wanted to. Did manage to learn SMW NCNSW and (working on) 96, NoSW I technically improved after learning All Castles(lol); I could get much better times in all of that, just gotta feel like a nonidiot while playing that game, which the practice is helping with. 2016 saw me getting a better 100% in SMB3; no improvement in Warpless, but I definitely didn't grind that category, so I'm not too disappointed. The real disappointment was basically everything else, Tooie, MM6, Zelda, Castle of Illusion HD, Time Diver, and especially Japanese Tarchan. I figured there'd be a few things that I wouldn't get to, but to miss this much feels kinda sad, but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  7. Casual 2016 and general streaming things in 2016
  8.
  9. Casual plans with Gamecube Game of the Month started nicely, played some fun games, a few for the first time, but ultimately it really hampered me to feel like I HAD to play these games, even if the only person that really cared was myself. All of this kind of led to about a month and a half where I just pretty much didn't stream, practice, really didn't do anything other than live the stream monster life. Although it really set me back in terms of what I wanted to accomplish in 2016, I don't look at this time as time wasted, as I did come to learn a lot about myself and how to better approach how I "run" my stream. While I don't really have any ambitions with my stream in terms of like, getting to a certain follower count, normal viewer count, or any of that jazz, I do want to be able to have fun while streaming, and provide anybody who accidentally loads the stream with a good time until they realize their mistake and find an actually good stream :P
  10.
  11. To that end, I've learned that trying make a big deal of things usually doesn't work out for me in the end. I'm going to do my best to avoid making things things just to make things things, if that makes any sense. The other (and arguably more important) thing I learned during the hiatus was after I came back. If I recall correctly, the first thing I started streaming regularly was JUMP, and I think that was the perfect thing to come back with. While just being a lot of fun in general (except Manky Bridge which is actually the worst level ever and I'm not salty that I can't beat it at all), it allowed me to have a fun time hanging out with people while they laugh at my failures (and there's been a lot). I was so nervous about pressing the "Start Streaming" button again, but I've come to learn that I almost never feel bad about what happens inbetween "Start Streaming" and "Stop Streaming", and that's all I'm really looking to get out of streaming in the first place.

  13. Anyways enough about all the things I wasn't planning on talking about but started talking about anyways, let's get to the real meat and potatoes of this pastebin. Now if you read up to this point (and if you didn't don't worry you didn't miss anything), you saw that I'm going to avoid making things things. Well... mostly. My plan for 2017 is something that's sort of been in the back of my mind since early 2015. So without further blabbering:
  14.
  15. Speed Goals for 2017
  16.
  17. SMW 96
  18. MMX 100%
  19. LTTP 100%
  20. DKC1 101%
  21. SM 100%
  22.
  23. Back. To back. To back. To back. To back.
  24.
  25. Yeah so that's what I wanna do. I've always had an idea of a sort of Trifecta of the SNES, which originally was SMW, LTTP, and SM. But then I felt like MMX is right alongside all these awesome games, and eventually figured that DKC1 was pretty deserving amongst these games as well. In the interest of sanity and plausibility, I decided to end there. So I guess I'll get a few questions out of the way, in case you have any of the questions I asked myself while compiling this list.
  26.
  27. Why 100%?
  28. I've decided to do the 100% categories (or what I feel to be the closest equivalent so I don't trigger the entire SMW community) for a couple of reasons. For some of these games, these categories are what most would consider the defining category, while others are at least fairly popular. I tend to gravitate towards enjoying 100% categories more personally as well. Honestly, the only thing close to an odd category selection is DKC1. Speaking of DKC1...
  29.
  30. Why DKC1?
  31. While I've always been a bigger fan of DKC2, and that game is also a really sick speedgame, I think DKC1 just fits better in terms of recognizability (that's not a word) and in terms of time frame. Speaking of time frame (these segues are FIRE btw)...
  32.
  33. Why this order? How long is this going to take?
  34. I'm hoping, that all things considered, I'll be able to complete all 5 of these categories in under 7 hours. The reason I decided on this order is to break up the games in terms of length, as well as break up the types of games. SM has to be last since the only time I can officially file check it is after the credits. Plus typing D e e R F o r C e at the end will be a great way to finish things off I feel. In case you want to see some numbers, I've got some numbers.
  35.
  36. SMW - WR: 1:23 - Goal PB: 1:30 - During All 5 Goal: 1:35
  37. MMX - WR: 35 - Goal PB: 40 - During All 5 Goal: 45
  38. LTTP - WR: 1:41 - Goal PB: 1:55 - During All 5 Goal: 2:00
  39. DKC - WR: 46 - Goal PB: 55 - During All 5 Goal: 1:00
  40. SM - WR: 1:15 - Goal OB: 1:35 - During All 5 Goal: 1:45
  41. Total: WR: 5:40 - Goal PB: 6:20 - During All 5 Goal: 7:05
  42.
  43. So the first column is the WR time in minutes as of this posting (a few of these will probably drop in 2017, but whatever it's an estimate) the second column is where I'd like my PB to be near, and the third column is where I'd want to get a run when I do all 5, including cart swaps, a likely short break somewhere between games, and I'm sure at least 1 or 4 of these runs will end up comically bad. All that adds up to 7:05, so hopefully something will go right somewhere and we'll cut the 7.
  44.
  45. Why not add *Title of Another SNES game here*? I've seen xXxClearlyFakeName69xXx do this but he did *Title of Another SNES game here* instead.
  46. There's a lot of very worthy and very awesome SNES speedruns that would certainly "fit" in this sort of endeavor, but I feel like if you ask a random speedrunner what the best 5 SNES speedruns are, these 5 would show up on a large number of lists. Also a lot of these runs I've at least dabbled with, so these are the 5 I'm gonna do deal with it. This isn't a completely original idea in terms of running a mess of games back to back, but I feel like this is unique enough to where I can say I'm the first to try this.
  47.
  48. How are you gonna learn all this? Is there any sort of schedule? What about a swag name? (I've been writing this for 4 hours and I'm getting tired lol)
  49. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ For real though, there's a lot of great resources out there, and I know some great runners of each game that I'll probably bug a lot as I make my way through this project. There's also I'd be shocked if I really considered myself ready for a full run through before waning moments of 2017, but at worst I'll at least do a stream of the best I've got to offer unless I've just not touched one game at all. As for naming this thing... I've thought of a couple possibilities for names, but none have really stuck out for me. If you've got an idea let me know, the worst thing that could happen is I laugh at you forever for suggesting a terrible name.
  50.
  51. What's left for 2016?
  52. I've got 1 cart left to acquire, the DKC1 cart, I just needed to be sure which one was the correct one before pulling the trigger on that. But I'll continue learning/practicing 96 stuff, maybe try and get a few runs going before the turn of the calendar.
  53.
  54. Ok, let's be honest. What's going to get in the way of all of this and blow up this idea that you've spent the last 1000 words hyping?
  55. Hopefully nothing, but if I had to put my money on it, there would be 3 things. Those being: 1. Japanese Tarchan, which is something I'll probably at least mess around with anyways. 2. SMB3 suddenly becoming a thing I want to do again, it's an itch you have to scratch sometimes or 3. Yooka-Laylee living up to everything I hope and dream it will be and me wanting to speedrun that. Of course there's always real life stuff too, I'm hoping I'm not in the exact situation I'm in now at the end of next year, so something could drastically alter my ability to do this.
  56.
  57. Ok, I think that's everything... probably. I don't know I'm tired and can't think of anything else so that's probably more than you wanted to read anyways. Hello Glib in 2017, hopefully we got somewhere with this goal :)
  58.
  59. TL:DR; Things happened in 2016. Not enough of them tbh. I'm gonna speedrun SMW, MMX, LTTP, DKC1, and SM all in a row because that's seems like fun.
