- when I asked about backup they offered fully managed cdp backup
- I am happy with the company and for years have not had the slightest problem
- but not sure about this backup offer. I can ask them but do not want to sound stupid
- so I want to know your ideas.
- CDP stands for Continuous Data Protection, which is essentially real time backups, as opposed to scheduled snapshot backups (the traditional - backup runs at 2am for instance).
- I'd ask for a bit more info on the retention period etc. It may be that they mean they're running a hot spare with an up to date copy of your VPS on it, in case of hardware failure.
- Stratagem Hosting - Lightspeed fast, forever.
- CDP is short for continuous data protection. Usually offered via R1Soft or Acronis.
- HostXNow Cloud Hosting - Powered by cPanel.
- HostXNow Reseller Hosting - Powered by cPanel/WHM.
- Seeing how managed should be where they take care of the service, it should be the same here. Where they monitor the backups for any errors and fix if possible and advise if not (like if they need access to the server and don't have it) . On the other hand, it could be just them having a CDP backup server where they add your server to, provide a user, and put a quota on that user and the backup system it self is managed -- like how shared hosting is fully managed at the server level.
