  17. I am looking for a replacement for Webfaction as I think their time, in their current format, is limited.
  18. I currently have a shared server -
  19. 1Gb Ram
  20. 3.5Ghz shared CPUs
  21. 100Gb SSD Storage
  22. 1TB Bandwidth
  23. Based in Europe / London
  24. With unlimited domains, unlimited applications, unlimited email accounts, unlimited subdomains, unlimited SQL databases.
  25. All for $10 a month!!!
  26.
  27. I think I am expecting too much from another reliable service, but want to see what is out there, so hit me with your suggestions and prices. (I don't mind cPanel).
  28.
  29. Thanks

  33. Hi John, I'm a WebFaction refugee as well and the writing is certainly on the wall over there. I think you should check out Gandi.net. They're based in France and they have a $10/month package that is pretty similar to WebFaction's feature set.
  34.
  35. The only significant difference is less storage, but if you're not using over 20GB you'd be fine. Although it says it's for up to 10 websites, they don't actually limit the number of sites and that's just a recomendation. You can sign up for a free account and test it out here:

  42. Thanks for that Parawing742,
  43.
  44. Problem is I am at 80Gb, and have all my backups stored else where.
  45. I am losing my most untidy client, so will be dropping down to 50Gb, but it's still very large. Also I have about 30 domains, and 40 applications running.
  46. Thanks
  47. John

  49. That's going to be somewhere on the scale between tricky and impossible for $10/month. I'll let you know if I think of something better. You're likely going to have to bump up into the $25-$40/month range if you want a reliable long-term service. I've been around here a long time and you usually get what you pay for with hosting. WebFaction had an exceptionly good deal going in that regard.
  50.
  51. With that price, that provider will surely close in no time.
  52.
  53. You need to increase your budget really.

  58. Is power and bandwidth cheaper in Europe or something? I have seen some EU vendors offer some unbelievable pricing.
  59. How are they able to offer this service at this price?

  64. Same as the US. Because they've been in the hosting business a long time, they can "oversell" because they know the majority of their customers won't use all those resources. Every few years when the servers are updated, they can reposition those customers based on actual resource usage. I've been with WebFaction for 10 years and I have four accounts with them with around 60 web applications in total. Even spread over those four accounts, I only use 35GB of space out of my 400GB allowed. I imagine OP is the exception to normal customer usage of allotted space.
  65.
  66. WebFaction has been a fantastic provider for a decade, but after the GoDaddy buyout they've been tight-lipped about the upcoming changes so I can no longer recommend them. I've since opened accounts with Gandi.net, ReallyFreeSpeech.NET and Dreamhost.com and am moving sites over to those plans depending on their usage scenarios.
