- If any spell success check is below 5 it backfires, if it's above 95 it becomes a haywire spell. A backfired spell can fizzle out, or explode in the caster's face. A haywire spell is of higher magnitude and can have additional effects.
- Upon rolling <5 or >95 roll a d10 to determine the effect.
- Fail:
- 1-2: the spell does it's full damage to the caster triggering a minor haywire effect.
- 3-4: the spell does half it's damage to the caster.
- 5-7: the spell explodes in a small AoE around the caster, affecting the caster and anyone nearby with a status effect, appropriate for the spell's element (fire causes minor DoT, kinetc spells knock down, etc.)
- 8-10: the spell fizzles out, doing nothing.
- Hit:
- 1-2: the spell gains a small status debuff attached to it based on it's type
- 3-6: the spell does 25% more dmg
- 7-8: the spell does 50% more dmg and causes a minor haywire effect
- 9-10: the spell does 75% more dmg and causes a major haywire effect
- Summons, buffs/debuffs, static non-targeted spells and sustained spells trgger haywire effects only for a few turns, before returning to normal.
- Upon backfiring, there's a 1 turn cd to all of the caster's spells.
