He closed his eyes to control his breathing. Then came the command for them to descend. Each of them had a cable with a locking claw at one end. Ptah'Ra fixed it tightly into a rock crevice, gave it a few worried tugs, then gripped it with both hands. Hetah dove from the branch on which she was perched. When the cable snapped taut it bounced her to the side of the rift, where she began to walk as though she was on the ground.

Then Sta'kta took three great leaps and rappelled halfway down. Meanwhile Ptah'Ra, hating every moment of it, skidded backward, glancing down every few meters to see how sickeningly far away the ground remained. Too far.

Ca'toll descended without a cable. Hunting leaders didn't need one. They were able to leap from rock to outcropping to brush to clumps of tree root, all with ease.-pg.50 chpt.5
