  1. Trigun Ramblings
  2.
  3.
  4. High noon, The sun hanging high in the sky told me that’s what time it was. As I surveyed the ruins of Inepril I found the timing appropriate for what was about the happen. I saw several bodies mounted to nearby buildings. They were familiar, Gungho guns who I had defeated and let live.
  5.
  6. They had been the ones mainly responsible for the state of the city when they came after me. I waited outside of the empty saloon but I wasn’t kept waiting long as a man wish short blond hair approached me.
  7.
  8. “Well after all this time trying to kill me we actually get to meet in person.” I said to Knives as I noticed his hand was by his gun. It seemed He had understood my message about the meeting.
  9.
  10. He seemed irritated as if my very presence sickened him. “Lets just get this over with I don’t have time to waste with garbage like you.” Then with out any ceremony just smooth inhuman speed and grace up pulled his gun and shot aiming right between my eyes.
  11.
  12. The bullet hung in the air for what seemed a century before I grabbed it just before it hit it’s mark. It was still hot to the touch as the moment bled out of it in my hand. The time to feign normalcy long gone
  13.
  14. “Why? Why do you waste time protecting them when they are clearly superior to them? Why do you protect the human garbage of this world?” shouted Knives, in a mixture of rage and confusion.
  15.
  16. “Because I am not any better than anyone else just because I have some powers. I have done plenty of things that were worse than most of them will ever do, just like you knives.”
  17.
  18. “Your nothing like me, I am trying to protect those who deserve it. Your just blindly trying to save everyone whether they deserve it or not.”
  19.
  20. I had to admit he wasn’t wrong about me. Still the idea of sit in judgement and playing judge and executioner didn’t suit me.
  21.
  22. “Yeah I am an Idealist, I believe people can change and that you shouldn’t take lives unless you have no other choice.”
  23.
  24. “You’re an idiot, killing you is an act of mercy.”
  25.
  26. With that he snarled his gun began to shift and I realized I probably wasted too much time talking to him. It was a shame I don’t know what I expected. Some people there was no saving despite what Vash believed. An Icy coldness gripped my heart as the angel arm shifted and began to take shape in my direction.
  27.
  28. “You have cost me so much time and effort, Do you know how ard it was finding these pieces of trash and training them to be good enough to torment Vash?” he began.
  29.
  30. Shit, shit, shit! I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting him to go right for the angel arm right out of the box. Thankfully it wasn’t the fastest attack. I let out a shout that tore away at the buildings around us and threw Knives dozens of feet down the road.
  31.
  32. Through my enhanced senses I could see he undid the angel arm and rolled with the impact coming up and shooting through the dust and debris where I had been.
  33.
  34. I was no longer there as I was moving at several times the speed of sound away from the area (not that it would matter if he got the angel arm off)
  35.
  36. I could see Knives looking confused for a millisecond as the dust cleared before he seemed to zone in right on where I was as I sped towards him from the side. As I rushed towards him he turned and seemed to open up what could be called a small black hole I felt it pulling at me. I immediately tried to reversed myself (not an easy task). Unfortunately my inertia was working against me so I threw myself in to redirecting instead I managed to roll past him and break the pull.
  37.
  38. With a quick focus of psychic energy I surprised him by slamming a piece of wall in to him from behind him. Somehow he just dropped the black hole instead of getting sucked in.
  39.
  40. I took advantage of the stumble to ruck him and kick the gun out of his hand, he tried to give me a spinning backhand but I managed to duck.
  41.
  42. I then hit him with a barrage of pinpoint accurate strikes and he stumbled back. Apparently plants have different pressure points than humans as he wasn’t paralyzed. But he seemed stunned enough.
  43.
  44. I managed to buy myself enough time I drew upon my mystic energies uttered an arcane word, made a gesture and Knives froze.
  45.
  46. He let out a cry of surprise as his hands began to turn white and took on the texture of marble which began to spread up his arms and legs.
  47.
  48. I could feel the fury of his impressive willpower against my spell as he struggled against it and I had to push with all I had to make it take hold. For an instant I thought he would break it but he buckled first as the speed at which his petrification took place quickened.
  49.
  50. Soon I was standing in the ruined street alone… with a statue. I looked down at him grimly. In truth I didn’t know what else to do I had hoped not to have to do this. I had hoped to leave some way for Vash to redeem his brother. I liked Vash and something about him made me want to believe he could do it…
  51.
  52. In the end though I wasn’t Vash, while I would have loved to find a way to redeem Knives I had seen the hatred in him and the immense willpower behind it. I did what I thought was best leaving him not dead or alive in the middle of a ruined street in a ruined city.
