  1. Google Code-in is a contest to introduce pre-university students (ages 13-17) to open source software development. Since 2010, over 4500 students from 99 countries have completed work in the contest.
  2. This is a competition which usually runs for around 7-8 weeks.
  3. The students are given byte sized interesting tasks to complete within a time limit and to reward the students for their precious hard work, Google gives out prizes like T-shirts, hoodies and a grand prize to visi the Google HQ at Mountain View!
  4. Tasks are given by organizations. Open source organizations are selected by Google based on their success mentoring students in Google Summer of Code. one of them is Jboss Community. JBoss Community is a community of open source projects. The community hosts a large number of projects that are written in various programming languages. My experience of working with the mentors of jboss community has been very good, they are always ready to help, this is the reason why i chose jboss over the other 24 organisations and therefore i recommend you to choose jboss too.
  5. The main aim here is to encourage the students and to give them exposure to various fields related with the age of internet and computers.
  6. Taking into account my personal experiences, I can say that I have learned a lot in 3 weeks which I guess I would have never learnt in even 3-4 months, this has all been possible because of Google!
