- He'd fallen to his knees. It was then that she saw his face turning a shade of greenish-purple as tendrils of poison spread up his neck. She ran to his side.
- "Orin!"
- He gasped, holding his neck. He was suddenly breathing so fast. "I can't get enough air, Gella," he said as his body fell backward. She couldn't hold him up. She saw Binnot standing triumphantly next to Axel. He held up his dark-gloved hand, and only then did Gella see the light reflecting off the minute needles protruding from his gloved fin-gertips.
- "He'll be dead in minutes, if you don't surrender, Binnot said.
- "Only I have the antidote."
- Gella froze, unable to think. Orin, dying? No. It simply couldn't be happening. She looked at Binnot's face, so calm and confident. "You're lying. You're just going to watch him die," Gella said.
- "Are you going to bet his life on your guess?" Binnot said, leaning against the wall.
- Orin was panting, but he was still clutching at his neck and chest, as if trying to will the oxygen into his body. She couldn't take that chance. She deactivated and dropped her lightsabers so her hands could clutch Orin's face.
- "Orin! Stay with me! Orin!"
- He already looked exhausted, his chest rising and falling so fast.
- He was looking at Gella, but it was clear he couldn't focus on her face.
- His hand now clutched at her wrists. No matter how hard he tried, oxygen wasn't getting into him. By the stars, he was drowning in front of her.
- "Gella," he said, between tiny gasps of useless air, "when you remember how to laugh again ... think of me."
- "Stop it. Save your energy. You'll be okay. You will." She didn't care if she was lying, she needed to believe the words herself.
- Binnot made a motion, and Axel opened the door behind them.
- The room flooded with more Path guards, who picked up Gella's lightsabers and began to bind her hands behind her.
- "Orin! It'll be okay. You'll be okay," she screamed at Axel, grunting as they twisted her arms hard. Orin's breathing had become quieter, slower. She knew that was bad. "What have you done? Help him now, please!"
- "Axel, Binnot said. "Send the transmission already."
- Axel walked to the communications console, touching it. "It's sent
- "Our new chancellor!" Binnot grinned at him. Like a skull.
- "Not yet, Binnot." Axel didn't look nearly so happy. He was watching Gella, unable to look in Orin's direction as the Jedi Master's mouth foamed with pink froth.
- Gella closed her eyes. "Please. Just bring him the antidote." The guards hauled her to her feet, painfully so. Orin's breaths were coming in irregular gasps now. The purplish-green discoloration, like a bruise, had spread through Orin's face. "Please!"
- Binnot casually walked over and glanced at Orin's unmoving body.
- "Too late. He's already dead." He smiled at Gella. "Not that it mattered.
- No antidote anyway.
- Gella roared at him as she was dragged out of the room.
