  36. Writing Section: 4th and final section on the test, two tasks, 20+30 minutes of writing, about 1hr total
  37. 1 integrated: read a passage, listen to a lecture about the same topic, write about how they relate
  38. 2 independent: read a choice question prompt, write about your opinion and the reasons for it
  39. ---
  40. With independent writing, remember that you need to connect all of your points back to your thesis.
  41. For example, “Technology is improving” is a common reason in the “fewer cars in 20 years” topic. It can be a reason for both sides, so you need to make it clear why you think it supports your side.
  42. ---
  43. Integrated writing:
  44. - 3 minutes to read a passage, take notes at least about the three main supporting points in the text
  45. - listen to a lecture which will probably oppose the conclusion or main point of the text, take notes on the supporting points and details the speaker uses to relate to the text
  46. - 20 minutes to write about the points from the lecture and how they relate to the points from the reading passage
  47. ---
  48. DELTA 7.5 example (education)
  49. R0 = academics and sports are more important to education than arts
  50. R1 = future career skills - reading, writing, computing
  51. R2 = problem-solving skills - math and science
  52. R3 = collaboration - team sports
  53. Listen to the lecture and take notes.
  54. L0 = arts are essential (as essential as academics) for teaching life skills for the future
  55. L1 = creativity is also a future career skill for any job
  56. L2 = arts teach problem-solving
  57. L3 = arts (especially performing arts) teach collaboration
  58. ---
  59. Point-by-point response: four paragraphs, one for the main idea and one for each supporting point
  60. 1 Introduction: state the topic and summarize the position of the reading and the lecture, and how they relate
  61. 2 First point: summarize R1 and L1, and explain how L1 relates to R1
  62. 3 Second point: summarize R2 and L2, and explain how L2 relates to R2
  63. 4 Third point: summarize R3 and L3, and explain how L3 relates to R3
