  1. ________________________EMISSIONS
  2.
  3. “Maybe it's a matter of hindsight,” mumbled the detective quietly to his partner. “Not like foresight could have saved him.” He studied the drooling wreck of a man sitting in his wheelchair before him. Nearby, his loving attendant continued to yelp and shriek, desperately trying to break from her bonds to get to him. He glanced at her, his eyes burning with a mixture of both pity and disdain, “Get her back in her home. She shouldn't have to see this.” The officials were having difficulty doing so, and he turned away from them back to his partner to see him lifting the poor soul's arm up and letting if flop lifelessly back down.
  4.
  5. “I dunno I think foresight would have done a whole lot here,” he mused. “Who in their right mind would do such a thing if they hadn't thought it all the way through?”
  6.
  7. “He wasn't in his right mind for a while now,” replied the detective as he reached for his pipe and lit it absently. He puffed twice and let out a slow stream of smoke. “Brain started turning to sludge maybe a month or two after he started up I'd wager. First thing to go is the outer layer – responsible for keeping you sane and logical. All a slippery slope downhill from there. What do you do when you're burnt down to the reptilian? Eat, sleep, fuck. Nothing more, nothing less, until you can't even do that.”

  9. A team of paramedics came to the decaying figure and slipped the emaciated form with little difficulty into a bag and onto a stretcher. He would expire on the ride to the nearest hospital – they were certain. From behind the detective, the wailing and shrieking reached an almost fever pitch; the detective had had enough. He opened the body bag and pulled the only ball hanging on the victim's belt. With a cold gaze he turned towards the bawling Pokemon and nodded to an officer to drop the Psybarrier. The instant it did the familiar beam of red light shot from the ball and pulled the mourning Gardevoir in. He tossed it to an officer and puffed on his pipe once more.
  10.
  11. “Where do you get off, is what I'm asking you. Of all the types you could have picked, you went with the kind most likely to rot your head from the inside out. All for want of love.”
  12.
  13. His partner watched the body as it was loaded into a waiting ambulance and driven off. “Yeah, but that love went both ways. Unconditional no less. Or so I imagine.”
  14.
  15. The detective shot his partner a bitter scowl and puffed more on his pipe. “And look where that got him. Trainers walkin' the world over and some of them are dying for even a hint of affection and they go finding it in the worst place possible.”
  16.
  17. His partner sighed. “Ain't it the truth.”
