I would continue to try to change it. If it doesn't work and I've been trying for a long time then I guess it'll be time to stop and let him be.

I would need some time to think about it. I would probably accept it if I think things are going well and if I want to change his attitude I would need him to trust me for him to tell me his problems. But i would reject it if he is being rude and i can't take it anymore.
