a statement regarding twitch subs

hey all. i'm sure most of you have seen this news by now but twitch will be increasing the cost of subs starting next month. a lot of twitch streamers, including myself, whose livelihoods depend on the revenue we make on this platform are justifiably upset and frustrated as it is going to directly lead to us and our communities being screwed over.

i want to preface this and say that i am so grateful to those who choose to subscribe to me on twitch, i am beyond grateful for the support, but i want to be super transparent with all of you right now about the current situation... subscribing really is not the best way to support twitch streamers anymore and it hasn't been for some time. me and so many other streamers who are not part of the partner plus program have been struggling and making very little on subs due to the 50/50 revenue split of tier 1 subscriptions only earning us around $2.50 per sub and now with the price increase it's personally the very last straw for me. twitch claims the increase is to help drive up revenue for streamers but it's actually going to have the opposite affect as viewers are no longer able to afford the prices anymore. i don't feel comfortable putting my community through the pressure of paying more on subs every month or helping me get to partner plus to give me a bigger cut of the sub revenue that i know i deserve, so going forward i have made the decision to no longer push for channel subscriptions at all. i will still of course be grateful and thank anyone who subs and there will still be emotes and the server role for those who do sub but in general i highly discourage anyone to continue to spend money on twitch subscriptions as it only helps line twitch/amazon's pockets and not actually the streamer you're trying to support.

that all said, for those who want to continue to support streamers without subscribing on twitch, i recommend donating directly through bits/donations or subscriptions on other platforms like ko-fi, patreon, etc. as of now, all of the revenue from bits you cheer during twitch streams go directly to the streamer and that as well as direct donations through ko-fi, etc are the best way to support us right now. subscriptions are becoming more and more of a scam to make viewers pay more money to twitch and i cannot in good conscience endorse that to my community.

and lastly i want to make a point to say if anyone needs to cancel their sub to my channel due to the price increase, please try to do so without any guilt because i completely understand and even encourage it.
