Sam Fisher- Watchtower Fall

  The helicopter came back around, this time side-slipping through the air to show one flank where a cabin door had been drawn back. Fisher glimpsed a figure leaning out from inside the aircraft, aiming what looked like a black length of heavy-gauge drainpipe in his direction.

  “Shit!”

  The pipe maw bucked and he caught the hollow sound of a grenade launcher as the man in the helicopter fired. Fisher threw himself toward the ladder just as the shot hit the side of the tower and detonated.

  Attenuated by the thick brickwork, the blast wasn’t enough to injure him, but still the shockw
ave tore Fisher off his handhold at the top of the ladder. He fell, colliding with Kestrel who was still only halfway down. Fisher knocked the Russian from the ladder and the two men plunged the last ten meters straight down to the tower’s stone foundations.

  The impact was like being hit by a car, and Fisher rolled away, rings of agony tightening around every joint in his body. Panting and unsteady, he pitched to his feet and pulled Kestrel up with him.
