- I think if there is any consistancy there is some in the way the GMs do things and how runs are structured. That being said:
- > However, this problem doesn't seem to bother the SCP Wiki itself. Why? It's because the writers there go beyond their way to painstakingly research their SCPs by exercising their Google-fu or talking with people who know this stuff. We as the players just don't see that kind of painstaking attention to detail within the RP. Thus, we are left to believe that the GMs don't understand what they are talking about. Whether or not you typed up ten pages of planned content for your run is a moot point when none of it has any semblance of believability or is riddled with plot holes.
- At this I realize you are making a reference to my megarun where it was stated I did about a 10 page write up. Most of my research was centered around the culture of the people I used to inspire the tribe. These people were known as The Karen. Also a lot of research went into risks found in Burma as well as Flora and Fauna. I researched it and made risks knowing people wanted realistic. However the moment I tried to make it realistic, I had cries of foul. My goal wasn't a hyper realistic military operation- It was a new place where people could interact with natives, and make video diaries, and explore a jungle without Skips save for the Big Bad.
- In the Japanese Run series I am doing I have painstakingly researched and read up on a variety of Japanese creatures in both English and Japanese. However it feels that sometimes I am writing a run that people expect to fail.
- People are already looking for something to complain about, and if you look you will always find something that isn't good. Does this mean we are inconsistent? Bad writers and GMs? We have been called this tons of times. However we are human, and we make mistakes. Yes we have a bad run that is awful from time to time. But there will be good runs people will still find flaws in. Some of the best runs that was nominated and won awards during the 2013 FR Awards were critiqued and complained about. However they are still regarded as good runs.
- The thing is just because we aren't writing 20 pages and reading 50 reliable sources in order to make a run or an incident as perfect and Realistic as possible doesn't make us bad GMs. We all have lives, school, jobs. Heck I am in my graduating semester. Many GMs and Admins have stepped back to pay more attention to real life cause we all live and have one.
- We shouldn't be expected to know every single military protocol, or every single detail. **Our job is making sure people have fun, while having fun ourselves.** Like Roget said, we aren't a collaborative writing site, its an RP. And the moment we or players stop having fun, is when we need to figure out what else we can be doing in order to make it better. However just because one person isn't having fun, doesn't mean everything needs to change. It all comes down to whether you are enjoying GMing, Playing, etc.
