It’s Over (Pearl/Rose, Steven Universe)

>You thought Rose would happy!
>She said she wanted you to be more independent after you told her you wanted to spend some time apart!
>So why did she react like that?!
>You were so happy to see her again after a few decades and show her the new you!
>Instead she just started flirting with Greg as if you weren’t even there!
>Now you’re hurt, sad, and.... Angry.
>It’s a strange thing to realize you’ve never actually been angry with Rose until now
>You’ve been frustrated and exasperated with her but never before outright angry.
>For her to imply that you’ve latched onto Greg like he’s your new owner is UUUUUGH!
>You wanted to scream
>But you didn’t, because you didn’t want to worry Greg.
>He could tell something was bothering you though, so when he asked you just said didn’t want to talk about it.
>It wasn’t all bad though.
>Garnet and Amethyst were happy to see you again, at least.
>Time moved forward as it always  did
>It was difficult trying to balance your reintegration with the Crystal Gems and your role as lead singer in Greg’s band
>As the weeks went on, you started noticing things.
>Rose would never try to outright flirt with Greg again like before, but she would always seem to find an excuse to cozy up to him whenever he came by to visit you at the temple
>Hugs and handshakes that were a bit too long, a smoldering look in his direction when she thought you weren’t looking.
>Whenever you tried to call her on it, she acted like she was innocent and you were just being paranoid
>Stars, was she always like this and you were just too lovestruck to notice?
>It’s a side of her you’ve never seen before and quite frankly it unnerves you.
>Greg has also confided in you about how uncomfortable she makes him feel at times.
>Amethyst was still a bit too immature to notice the increased tension going around, but Garnet definitely did and more than once you’ve had to ask her to distract Rose away from your boyfriend.
>You weren’t sure what would happen when things reached their peak.
>In hindsight, maybe you shouldn’t have been surprised when you found Rose, completely nude, in the middle of trying to seduce Greg into sex.
>It was a day that started out like any other.
>You gone to band practice with Greg.
>It wasn’t long before you realized that you had misplaced your keytar somewhere, even though you remember leaving it in a certain spot in your room at the temple.
>You were going to go back and look for it, but Greg offered to do it instead, because you were having trouble learning the newest song and needed more practice with it.
>But then two hours had passed and he hadn’t come back yet.
>You and the other members of the band were worried, so you had one of them drive you back to the temple to check up on him
>You saw a frantic looking Garnet running out of the temple holding a squirming Amethyst underneath her right arm
>”H-Hey! Lemme’ go, Garnet! I wanna see what game Greg and Rose are playing!”
>If you had a heart, it would have sunk in your chest in your chest at that moment
>You ran up to her.
“Garnet! What happened?! Where’s Greg?!”
>Garnet moved to speak, but then paused as if unsure how to say it.
>”Rose wants to play naked wrestling with Greg!” Amethyst piped up.
>You froze, while Garnet facepalmed
>”But I don’t think he wants to play, he keeps running away and telling her to sto-MMPH!” Garnet covered her mouth
>You sped past the both of them
>What was Rose thinking!?
>”Pearl?! P-Pearl is that you?! Oh thank God!”
>Greg runs out of the temple, his shirt half off and his hair a mess, thankfully his pants were still on.
>He runs into your arms and you run into his.
>His heart rate was dangerously high
>”Rose went crazy! I-I just came here to look for your keytar, she offered to help, and she-she-she started coming onto me like-“
>”Oh Greg~!”
>You felt something in you snap at the sound of Rose’s voice, and anger flooded your entire form
>It felt hot.
>You wondered if this is how Rubies felt
>Rose strolls out, her dress half off without a care in the world.
>Then she sees you, and you must have had a terrifying expression on your face because even she paused for a moment.
>Your face curled into a snarl.
“How. Dare You!”
>You stomp forward.
“I ask you for ONE THING just for myself and you go and to this?!”
>Rose scoffs and folds her arms.
>”You were perfectly allowed to fool around with the human men I courted in the past.”
>Stars, you felt like tearing your hair out.
“Because I never wanted to! Because I HATED all of them! You never even asked how I felt about it before you started fooling around with humans! You just started doing it without asking me, apologized when you noticed you hurt my feelings, then kept on doing it! Just like you always do!”
>Rose throws her hands up, “The humans don’t matter that much, Pearl! They’re just a phase! You should know that by now! They come and go but you and I will always be a thing!”
>You scream in frustration.
>”That’s NOT the point, Rose! The point is, YOU said you wanted me to be more independent! Here I am, being more independent! But all of a sudden you have a problem with it! I’ve always done my best to respect what you want! Why can’t you do the same for me?!”
>your anger started to sputter out, and you felt warmth come to your eyes as you started to cry, falling to your knees
“I-I thought you loved me, Rose.”
>is this the real her?
>is this what’s been lying below the surface all along and you were just too attracted to her to notice?
>you felt like a fool
>”Oh, Pearl…. I do love you.” you felt Rose hug you, but it doesn’t make your chest go a flutter like it used to.
>your anger spikes again, and you glare up at her through teary eyes
“Then why have we never had what Garnet has?”
>Rose looks startled at your question, “I… W-Well, that’s-“
“Do you even respect me as an individual, Rose?”
>she looks affronted at the suggestion, “Of course I do!”
>you break the hug and take a few steps back from her
>you take a deep breath and gather up all your courage
“Then respect what I’m about to say. Originally I was just going to date Greg and see where things went. Maybe we’d stay together for the rest of his life, maybe we wouldn’t. Either way, things would have gone back to the way they were before by the time it was over if you just let me figure this out on my own.”
>a century ago, you wouldn’t have even thought of the words you’re about to say
“Not anymore.”
>Rose’s eyes widened, an expression on her face like you had just slapped her
>admittedly you were tempted to do so
“I asked politely several times. You did not listen. We’re through, Rose.”
>you turn on your heel and started to walk away
>”Get. Back. Here. NOW!”
>a sensation you haven’t felt in millennia surges back
>the compulsion to obey your Diamond
>and no matter how angry you might be, you cannot resist it pushing down upon your mind
>your foot stops against your will and you turn around
>now Rose is crying, an angry glare of her own upon her face as she stares you down
>she’s stood back up, shapeshifting her dress back into its proper position
>”After all we’ve been through together. You’d end it all just for a human?!”
>your legs are trembling but you do your best to meet her glare head on
“It’s not about Greg. It’s about the fact that I’ve finally realized that you’ve never truly respected me as an equal, have you? I’ve always just been ‘your Pearl’.”
>her scowl deepens
>wait, are her eyes glowing pink?
>”I’ve let you do more than any Pearl would be allowed to on Homeworld and this is how you repay me?!”
>she takes a step towards you, and the ground shakes
>”You were my right hand Gem! I taught you how to fight! We started the rebellion together!”
>another heavy step, the ground shakes more
>”But if you want to throw it all away! That’s fine by me you UNGRATEFUL-!”
>the ground started shaking harder
>”LITTLE-!”
>you feel a terror you haven’t felt since the Diamonds launched their final attack on Earth.
>”CLOD-!”
>her final shout sends out a shockwave that knocks you, Greg, Garnet and Amethyst all flying back
>it’s a disorienting moment and it’s a miracle you weren’t shattered
>the statue of Obsidian has cracks all over it
>you hear alarms going off all over Beach City
>you look back at Rose, who looks surprised by what she just did
>her eyes have stopped glowing, and she’s looking down at her hands with a level of fear you’ve never seen from her before
>she looks absolutely terrified
>”I-I…”
>she looks at you, the others, and then at all the damage she’s caused
>she seems to realize something in that moment
>”I HAVE TO GO!”
>she runs away, where you have no idea
>”Pearl.” Garnet calls out
>the fusion looks just as shaken as you are
>”What was that?” she asks
>you answer honestly
“I have no idea.”
>since when does Pink Diamond have destructive powers like that?
