55. An undercover Detroit cop navigates a dangerous neighborhood that's surrounded by a containment wall with the help of an ex-con in order to bring down a crime lord and his plot to devastate the entire city.
 56. Overall it was a watchable action flick, but it's weird to call it a remake when the star of the original movie David Belle, is very much present in it. It would have done just as well if they just made it another Sequel in which Leïto movies to the Detroit, A.K.A somewhere in Canada.

It's perfect that they used Detroit. Set in a realistic Future, it's not impossible to see a development housing project being locked off from the city and controlled by a drug lord. In fact knowing the state of Detroit at the moment, it would not surprise me if this has already happen instead of four years from now like the movie is set in. What surprised me more was how diverse a Motor city development housing was. Though drug Kingpin Tremaine Alexander's army was dominated by blacks, I did see a vast variety of people living in the American Ghetto, but hey, that's Canada for you.

I hate to say this about Parkour, but it seems so played out in this movie. When I first herd of it back in 2006 or something it was soooooooo cool and everyone wanted to jump on the band wagon. That's what District 13 was all about. It even showed up at the beginning of Casino Royal when bond was chasing a bad guy that was trained in the discipline. This movie couldn't get better by having THE master of the craft starring in it, but like most of the action scenes in the movie, it over stays it's welcome. You start to watch Belle flipping and jumping in order to outwit the enemy, but the whole thing got really old really quickly due to action sequences lasting longer than they should. Thank God Paul Walker was there to salvage some of this flick.

I know what you're thinking, I'm just saying that out of respect for the dead, and you're right. The very fact of the matter is, just when I thought a dead man could not come out with another movie he does just that, and it made the movie more interesting because I wanted to see what the world was going to miss out on. Outside of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Paul Walker has made a string of low key action films that are decent. I'm thinking of such films as Into the Blue and Running Scared. Paul had a knack for playing the good guy on the wrong side of the tracks. This movie seem like it was going to be the best of these flicks, but maybe I had too high hopes.

I also thought RZA's bad guy, Tremaine was overdone. I've seen him act in better movies doing a better job. To his credit, I think RZA was going for the over the top villain that you would see in a B-movie or his favorite kung fu flicks, but for the most part it was more corny than campy, which I'm sure is not what he was going for.

This movie had everything I like from hot chicks kicking ass, to great stylish fight scenes, Car chases, etc, but putting it all together did not work for me like I thought it would. A prime example of why we should not do remakes. Wait for the DVD.
 57. I really enjoyed this movie. I had first seen it when I was in a college program the past 2 weeks or so and at first I was like " I really don't want to watch this I'm just ready to go back to my dorm and sleep" and once the movie started I kinda brushed it of until an interesting part came on and I was intrigued to continue watching it. I'm actually really glad that I paid attention to this movie because it was really good and once I got home I just had to watch it again so I pulled it up on my computer and when I watched it it was like I was watching it all over again. the first time I watched it I think I was the only one up when the movie was over besides our RA's. but they had to stay up. Anyways I recommend this movie to anyone who likes action movies.
 58. The film is put together too choppily to appreciate the bounce-off-walls athleticism of parkour. That’s a shame, since “District 13” star Belle is known as a founder of the sport.
 59. Both versions differ severely. For instance, the Extended Cut contains an entirely new soundtrack, David Belle has a different voice - at least that is the case in the English audio track - but he always has a French accent. A lot of the single scenes are recut and often have an alternate order. Some story details are altered, as well. And of course, violence is added to the Extended Cut which was probably removed from the Theatrical Version in order to get the PG-13 rating. a5c7b9f00b
