  2. my model of his relevant philosophy is something like, at base, the common ADHD failure to prioritize among the things you care about, for which his primary coping mechanism has been to aggressively pare down the list of things he cares about and to consider suspect and invalid all attempts to make him care about more things or care about things more
  3. that's the "expanding my circle of concern is a hostile act" thing
  4. which is like
  5. why he is anti-natalist and why he is the way he is about animal welfare and so on
  6. he feels like he already cares about things too much and cannot bear to care about any more things
  7. anton: No I Will Not Care About Any More Things You Can't Make Me
  8. so like his animal welfare stance is this very weird "human suffering about animal suffering is bad, but i steadfastly refuse to care about animals, and consider any attempts to get me to care about animals to be An Attack with which i will not cooperate" plus like "the kind of person who causes animal suffering is probably the kind of person who causes human suffering and that's bad" and some other tidbits
  9. i don't claim to understand most of it tbh

  12. I think the bit that actually alienated clover and me was "huh I'm eating possibly more chicken out of spite" which is a bit more than "I don't want to care about anything"

  15. yeah no that's part of the "expanding my circle of concern is a hostile act" thing
  16. it's retaliating at attempts to get him to care
  17. but it's also like... shitty

  20. Yeah I get where he's coming from but... The "attempt to get him to care" in question was, like... Posts on Scott's blog? And "if you write things in a public place I might see them I might interpret this as trying to hijack my brain so in response I will make the world worse by your values" is not actually good game theory

  23. i mean that was not the attempt to get him to care in question?
  24. he did not like, upon seeing the discussion of scott's blog post, in that moment, go "and now i will start spite-eating meat"
  25. he was just like "ah i see we are dissing someone for not caring about animals, i will point out that i don't think this person is bad for that, and also i am like them in that way"
