- At Link's instance + 0x833 there are 3 bytes which indicate sword activity.
- The first byte at 801DB263 (v1.0 NTSC) is the state of the sword, this is the byte that is set to 1 for ISG.
- The second byte at 801DB264 is a counter, when you swing your sword this is initialized to 8, when this value is 0, the third byte is also set to 0.
- When the sword is swung, the third byte is updated to 1, and updated on each subsequent swing, I believe this to be the counter for the triple slash. The the sword is swung before the 2nd byte reaches 0, then the next swing in the succession will take place.
- When you collect a gold skulltulla token or are frozen by a redead or gibdo, links "main" function will not run, but his draw function still runs. The main function is responsible for updating byte 2, and by extension updating byte 3 to 0 when byte 2 is 0.
- During links draw function the 3rd byte is checked for greater than equal to 3 at 8007B4B8. When this is the case, the third byte is subtracted from 9, and used for scale on the sword hitbox. During this case byte 3 is also incremented by 1.
- Because byte 2 is not being updated, byte 3 will continue to grow until it reaches 255, then it will lap back to 0, stopping the process since it will be less than 3.
