  1.
  2. Verlaine is rather restrained, nodding her head in appreciation for the offer of a place to exercise even if it doens't look like she'll necessarily take you up on the offer that often. "June is a good kid. I worry about some of his priorities and beliefs, but he's a good kid." There's a moment of quiet and Verlaine adds, "So maybe we should talk about methodology and ideology?" Her eyes drift around the barracks. "I certainly pursue a different tactic than this place hints at. I operate out of St. Joseph's."
  3.
  4. Damek dips his head in a nod and motions over to Verlaine "Well unless you're pulling a whole 'Nuns with guns' routine...which could work!..." He grins and waves a dismissive hand "I'm going to assume running out of a curch our views may differ a little bit."
  5.
  6. "June better still have his head attached to his shoulder, I'm afraid whatever chose us threw him in the deep end of the swimming pool, at least he floats." Ashera is humorless and slightly grim saying that. She has an inkling of what trouble he gets into. "Ideology? Sure -- I guess, if you'd like. We all take a different approach, and I'm of the mind you use the right tool for the job. We're here to help fellow humans, because if we don't, who will? Help isn't always in the form of a bullet to the braincase of a shambler. Hunger and cold kill people, too. I usually deal with things not human on a case by case basis." Sounds like a Judge.
  7.
  8. Oksana just remains quiet as discussion of ideology is brought up. She simply fidgets with her fingers, allowing Verlaine to take the lead on this discussion.
  9.
  10. Verlaine sighs softly at the mention of June. "I fear that June finds more in common with the monsters he accompanies than with us now. Perhaps he's been isolated for too long. I'm attempting to draw him back into the fold. I fear that he may have talked about us to his new friends, about God and His Messengers and our Calling. But I don't know for sure. He comes around less than I would like." She shakes her head. "I'm definitely not a nun and I don't own any guns. I'm a pacifist. I believe that no matter how vile, how evil, a creature is that redemption is in reach for it. We just have to show it the way. Oksana shares my faith, largely, but not my pacifism or belief in unending redemption."
  11.
  12.
  13. Damek gives a faint nod of his head, shifting his weight a bit "You haven't met any zombies then hmm? Not much in redeeming walking corpses. Me?" He motions to his chest "I'm a fan of the recruit it or shoot it methodology."
  14.
  15. Ashera listens to Damek, and glances to Verlaine. "Y'want me to drop the next batch of drooling shamblers off at your Church for redemption?" It's VERY hard to tell with Ashera's deadpan delivery of such an offer if she's joking or not. "I assure you, the Fomori that tried to slice me in half can't be reasoned with. I've still got the scars. I mean, if you REALLY WANT, I can drop mister creepy acid claws and teeth and tentacles off, if I find the bastard, to you, but there are some diseases of the spirit you just cannot cure except parting soul from body. If there's even a soul still left in the body."
  16.
  17. Oksana just continues to remain quiet. She looks down at her shoes, or her fingers, or maybe some lint that collected on her skirt. Nope. She's not adding anything to this discussion. She's just being the good little girl.
  18.
  19. Verlaine blinks a bit, shaking her head in response to Ashera's questions. "You don't need to be confrontational. Also, I don't know what a Fomori is. I've never seen something with tentacles or acid claws. I don't hurt people." She says softly. "A rabid dog, a creature that is not sentient? I understand the need to use violence to stop such things. I'm not a fool nor am I completely impractical. But if sentience remains then there is the potential for redemption and I'm obligated to pursue it."
  20.
  21. Damek tilts his gaze over to Ash "Not everyone's experience is the same." He turns to Verlaine "She's had a rougher time than some. I feel a little bit of the same way. If it can be used it should be used. If it shows no remorse?" His broad shoulders roll in a shrug "I sleep well at night with the memory of recoil on my shoulder."
  22. Ashera gazes at Damek, and nods once, glancing sidelong back at Verlaine. "I don't mean to be confrontational, either -- I sometimes forget not everybody's life is war. I've seen a lot, and it's left its mark," she adds gently. "You'd probably do great with the ones that do think and reason. I'm... eh, a little rough around the edges?" It's a phrase she's heard used, and she's not terribly sure it applies, but.. acknowledges others may consider her such.
  23.
  24. Oksana can't really keep with sitting and being quiet. She gets up from the couch and walks over to another location. She's still staying quiet, but she's changing her perception / perspective on things. If there's some place where she can stand, so that she look into the shooting range, or view the gym and what equipment is there... all while staying relatively close to conversational proximity, she will stand there.
  25.
  26. "I've seen war too Ashera. It affects everyone differently." Verlaine lets out a soft sigh and then glances back to Damek. "I've met a creature that showed no remorse. But she had the capacity for remorse and I've taught her how to remember what guilt and pain feels like. And she's slowly coming to terms with her sins. It is the capacity for remorse that I am concerned with, not whether or not the remorse already exists." And then her gaze returns to Ash. "It's okay. This is hard for all of us. We all have strong opinions, it's the nature of who we are and our Creeds." She watches Oksana stand and wander off, but doesn't stop her.
  27.
  28. The shooting range of course is backed with sound proof windows so you can look into the range. Damek gives his attention back to Verlaine "Then if I see a glimmer I'll make sure to tie em up and bring em to you. Or I can lock them up here, got plenty of ways to keep something contained."
  29.
  30. Ashera nods quietly, not arguing any points, because it's true. "If they have capacity for rational thought, I'll make sure the knots are tight, don't need anyone hurt." Yeah, not the most tactful offer, but, she did imply she deals with immediate threats to human life.
  31.
  32. Oksana continues to be off in her own world, pressing a hand against the window as she looks into the range. She looks down range, and then at where the table/ledges where the shooter might stand. Just familiarizing herself with what's there. Quiet as a mouse otherwise.
  33.
  34. Damek's offer seems to surprise Verlaine, the woman's eyes briefly going wide before she gets her expressions under control again. "I'm.. glad to hear that. I was worried, based on the appearance of this place, that you may have been a no mercy sort of person. How long have you been operating in the city?" And then Ashera agrees. Verlaine smiles warmly as it seems they've come to a reasonable understanding. "I'm glad. And feel free to use the Cathedral's Undercroft whenever you need it. There's a hidden parlor and I'm working on betting sewer access built into it so we can enter and leave covertly. If you can get access to the sewers through this building then we could travel from one to the other without ever having to get on the streets."
  35.
  36. Damek chuckles and shakes his head "Oh, I'm no avenger, Uncle Sam actually produces smart SEAL's" He glances back and looks over Oksana "The armory is open, you can take anything for a test ride if you'd like." He looks back to Verlaine "This place has its own safe house." He motions about "Beyond the secure hanger. I am loathe to connect it to the sewers because some of those creatures just love it down there."
  37.
  38. Ashera shrugs. "Not all Marines are jarheads. I was a contractor -- I was paid to be smart. I'm a pretty disciplined martial artist, I don't enjoy killing things. I just want people to be safe. Lotta things that aren't human used to be people, too." She pauses, and adds, "There's some weird looking creatures in the sewers. Unusually large rodents who are pretty mean, and, a /really/ big alligator. I've only seen it taking a walk with vision. Just be careful?"
  39.
  40. She can't hold back any longer. She says softly, though she's in conversational distance, "Vhy carink vhat monsters were?" There's a pause. "Monsters killink humans. Monsters torturink humans. Monsters corruptink humans." It's calm when she says all this, but there is vitriol lingering. "Monsters not carink about humans." She looks away from the gun range and towards the others. There's no smile. "Oksana not carink about monster's feelinks."
  41.
  42. Verlaine line sighs softly as Oksana starts to deliver her view on this. From the look on Verlaine's face this isn't the first time she's had this conversation. Still, she remains silent so that Damek and Ashera can offer their input, as Verlaine is rather curious what their response will be.
  43.
  44. Damek rolls his shoulders in shrug "Monsters get a round to the skull, two for good measure." He wiggles a hand back and forth "Some that can be reasoned with and can be turned to our side? Fighting fire with fire sounds good to me."
  45.
  46. Ashera considers. She thinks for a bit, listening to each, and nods to Oksana. "We all care about keeping people safe. There's so few of us, and so many monsters, I'm willing to let the ones who aren't harming humans to live, especially if they're fighting the -real- monsters. They're a lot lower on the priority list to eliminate, you know? The ones torturing and killing, who won't stop? Those are my priority."
  47.
  48. Oksana nods once, and then returns her attention to the gun range. "Not complete psychopath. Not completely vhantink rush into battle, killink all. Strategy good. Keepink vhits and keepink head on shoulders, good." She nods again, "Keepink priority list, good."
  49.
  50. Verlaine purses her lips before looking back to Ashera and Damek. "I can't teach her everything she needs to know. I can teach patience and I can guide her spiritually," she's talking about Angel clearly, "But she's going to fight. I can't stop her from doing that, it's what the Lord calls her to. Thank you for inviting her to train here. It seems that both of you have encountered threats and creatures I know nothing of. Would you be willing to share your knowledge with me?"
