- Shadow of the Tomb Raider is my first Tomb Raider game I ever played and beat. I wasn't too into the Tomb Raider series at first, and then I saw Studio do a speedrun of Rise of the Tomb Raider at SGDQ 2018 and became hooked with the Tomb Raider reboots. I started with Shadow because it's the most recent one. Here's a quick list of pros and cons:
- Pros(+)
- + Amazing music
- + Intense action sections; For example, a platforming and climbing section during a tsunami and several really cool grappling sections
- + I like how the game handled the difficulty level; The game lets you pick separate difficulties for action, puzzles, and "exploration"(the amount of resources that appear in the environment).
- + They devs seem to have an appreciation for the fans that I've mostly only seen in indie game devs. Both the opening/closing credits and some flavor text on the main menu show this with text that sincerely thanks the player for playing and supporting the games.
- Cons(-)
- - The campaign was a bit short in my opinion. I didn't want the game to be excruciatingly long(say, 20+ hours), but when I got towards the end of the game I felt I still wanted to do tomb exploring. This is keeping in mind that I only did the tombs required to progress the story, not including the extra challenge tombs.
- - The controls for climbing I felt were a little wonky/sluggish at times. For example, I would be holding left or right and, due to my speedrunning instincts, immediately switch to holding up and mashing jump when I get to a climbable ledge. Instead of jumping straight up, Lara would jump to the side and fall off. A lot of my deaths were because of this.
