  6.
  7. I really should do my research beforehand.
  8.
  9. I could only groan in exasperation as I peeked at the party member recruitment board in the Bar of Encounters.
  10. My application was rejected yet again.
  11. Not a single party recruited me as a member.
  12. I was at fault for taking member recruitment for granted, but no one left me any notes either.
  13. It would’ve been a miracle if anyone took a single look at my application.
  14. And it would’ve taken a kind soul to explain to me why I got rejected.
  15.
  16. I chose Summoner as my job.
  17. My race is Human, and my highest stats are Intelligence and Spirit, which are just about average, I think.
  18. At first, I didn’t know why everyone avoided me as if I was an obstruction.
  19. I simply didn’t know.
  20.
  21. It was a little late, but I searched the beta test forums for AnotherLink Saga Online to find out why I didn’t meet the requirements.
  22. Overall, Summoners are simply seen as red flags.
  23. Evaluations of Summoners such as 『burden』『hindrance』『instant death』『pointless』 are all over the forums.
  24. Yesterday, I had to kill time by playing alone for a few hours.
  25.
  26. That’s why I didn’t get the opportunity to look up information like that, and I never thought about gathering information in the first place.
  27. The only thing I can say is that I didn’t do my homework.
  28. Seriously, are there any other players who picked this job at all?
  29. I screwed up.
  30.
  31. I turned my attention away from the party recruitment board to another chat board, and got even more fed up.
  32. It went something like this:
  33.
  34. Red Flag Jobs ★2
  35. 1. Minakami
  36. I discourage anyone with a lack of patience from posting on this thread.
  37. Long chunks of text are going to be a bother to everyone, so please don’t do that.
  38. Let’s continue the thread calmly.
  39.

  44. ———————————-(Omitted)———————————-
  45. 121. Conrad
  46. The latest update was a slight buff in bows that were horrible in beta.
  47. Having a magic+bow user as a rear party member is veeeeeeeeeery impressive!
  48.
  49. I never thought I would see a Summoner on the job rankings though lol
  50. WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!
  51. Thx for sacrificing yourself lolololol
  52.
  53. 122. Komatai
  54. Don’t say that lol
  55. This sample is invaluable lol
  56. We’re already out of beta and in the main game though lol
  57.
  58. 123. Moko
  59. As expected, there’s only one of them here lol
  60. But that means this guy’s the number one Summoner, right?
  61. Also you guys should keep it cool, you’re burning him too much lol
  62. I guess I should too
  63.
  64. 124. Akane
  65. Are you a masochist?
  66. You stayed as a Summoner until the end of beta?
  67.
  68. 125. Pawn
  69. I looked it up.
  70. There were 12 players when they announced the end of beta. Among them were 2 solo players.
  71. Obviously they were farming instead of doing raids.
  72. Maybe they left the party because they gave up on the remaining 10 players who were underleveled lol
  73.
  74. 126. Klauser
  75. All job promotions were sealed during beta after all.
  76. Maybe the job promotion wouldn’t have been so bad?
  77. It’s gonna take a while so idk for sure…
  78.
  79. 127. Guren
  80. I’m interested in taking summoned monsters on a walk though.
  81.
  82. 128. zin
  83. >>127
  84. Thx for top team.
  85. None of the initial summons looked like monsters iirc.
  86. I’d rather be surrounded by fluffies lol
  87. Also what’s with this game? No one has cleared the first area yet.
  88. Progress report pls
  89.
  90. 129. Kuukai
  91. I made a Summoner to try it out, just cos.
  92. I gave up.
  93. I didn’t even know that bows had been buffed.
  94. So I made a new warrior-type bow user lol
  95. It’s tough to squeeze into a party of 6 as a Summoner.
  96. If you really want to, you’d have to be way overleveled.
  97. Not that the system would let you into the party anyway lol
  98. Even with a normal party, you’d be carrying them.
  99. There were complaints to the GMs about the job being crappy during beta, but looks like they didn’t fix anything.
  100. Also it’s convenient to hear TUEEEEEE when they use bows lol
  101.
  102. 130. Sora
  103. Besides that, it’s really sad when the only parent class that appears in character creation is Farmer
  104.
  105. 131. Tsutsumi
  106. >>130
  107. I can’t understand those guys who keep saying they got Merchant.
  108. It’s Craftsman jk
  109.
  110. 132. Crowe
  111. >>131
  112. Thx dwarf
  113.
  114. 133. Kokuyou
  115. >>129
  116. I just read the tutorial threads. Thx for your comments.
  117. You wouldn’t choose Summoner if you read the comments there in the first place…
  118. They’re half assed in combat and gathering and production.
  119.
  120. 134. Cocoa
  121. Why don’t you stop being so harsh?>>all
  122.
  123. 135. Sora
  124. Let’s talk about the production line for cars then
  125.
  126. ———————————-(Continued)———————————-
  127.
  128. I see.
  129. Summoners are red flags, I see.
  130. We’re no longer in beta, and I did create my character and walked around town without knowing better.
  131. The first parent class I saw during character creation was Summoner.
  132. Obviously I would choose it because it was available.
  133. It seemed rare too.
  134.
  135. They didn’t have to go that far though.
  136. It never feels good to be made fun of.
  137. …Sob…
  138.
  139. This is Lemut, the Town of Beginnings. I leave the Bar of Encounters and check the Adventurer’s Guild.
  140. This is where players can settle all kinds of affairs such as selecting their race and job.
  141. In comparison, the Bar of Encounters is much more specialized in forming parties and gathering information.
  142.
  143. A Horn Rabbit was hunted yesterday, and is currently on display at the window. Its horn and skin are for sale.
  144. I’m lost in thought while watching the NPC salesman automate his job.
  145.
  146. What should I do?
  147.
  148. I can kill time by enjoying the gameplay, and I don’t really want to interfere with other players right now.
  149. It’s really inconvenient when there’s no one I can consult though.
  150.
  151. 「Excuse me, I am a Summoner, and I would like some advice on beginning my adventure…」
  152.
  153. I don’t know where to start, but I try asking the aging NPC salesman.
  154. Tutorials only explain the details, so they won’t be much help here.
  155. What I want is advice that suits my playstyle.
  156.
  157. 「You a novice Adventurer? Well, this will take some time, but there’s someone who can give you some advice.」
  158.
  159. Oh.
  160. That’s great news.
  161. In fact, why hasn’t anyone else said something like that?
  162. He’s writing something on a piece of cloth or paper.
  163. I take the note. It looks like a map of the outskirts of 『Lemut』, the Town of Beginnings.
  164. Hey.
  165.
  166. 「…Is this outside the town?」
  167.
  168. 「Sort of. There are many contacts for other jobs within the castle, but that’s the only one I know for Summoners.」
  169.
  170. Summoners are discriminated against to this degree, I see.
  171. The other players behind me are looking at me like I’m an eyesore.
  172. Both literally and figuratively.
  173. It feels like they were about to chase me away.
  174.
  175. 「Don’t lose my note!」
  176.
  177. Hearing him from the window, I thank him before retreating quickly.
  178. I don’t know what to do with myself.
  179.
  180. I check the Training Ground before leaving the town.
  181. There are too many people here as well.
  182. It’s only natural that it’s so popular, since players are able to gain a certain amount of experience through training.
  183. They’re all killing time before all of their party members are recruited, so there are many players switching in and out.
  184. Even then, the queue is simply too long.
  185. I should get out of here too.
  186.
  187. I should head to the outskirts of town soon.
  188.
  189. There are stalls lined up in the central part of town.
  190. There are just about as many players in the area.
  191. Players have green triangles pointing down on their heads.
  192. It’s kind of a strange sight to behold.
  193. Most likely there are many more players hunting outside town.
  194. I still don’t see the stalls managed by players.
  195. Are they really so backed up on funds?
  196. Now I have to rely on NPCs to obtain food and items.
  197. I purchase 5 potions and replenish my supply of 2 portions of portable food at one of the stalls.
  198. Potions cost 30 Dyns each.
  199. Portable food costs 60 Dyns each.
  200. I earned 400 Dyns yesterday and spent 100 Dyns at the inn, so now I’m almost broke.
  201. I 【Appraise】 each item. This is roughly what the description is like.
  202.
  203. 【Recovery Item】Potion HP+8% Recovery Grade C Rarity 1 Weight 1
  204. An ordinary potion. Restores a small amount of HP.
  205. Leaves a bitter aftertaste when you drink it.
  206. ※Cannot be used repeatedly. Item cooldown is 10 minutes.
  207.
  208. 【Food Item】Portable Food Satiety+30% Grade C Rarity 2 Weight 1
  209. Dry food that is light but somewhat filling.
  210. Convenient to carry around. Warning: Effect is reduced by half if you don’t take it with water.
  211. ※Can be used repeatedly. But be careful not to overeat!
  212.
  213. The only other items in my possession are a water bottle and a rucksack to hold items. I just purchased them yesterday.
  214. I have to earn enough money to be able to afford a night at the inn.
  215.
  216. It looks like I can’t carelessly use my potions repeatedly.
  217. Since item cooldown exists in this game, I can’t afford to do anything risky.
  218. And it looks like the item cooldown doesn’t just apply to one item at a time.
  219. Still, I’m not confident that I can make it alone to the designated spot on the note without potions.
  220. There’s a possibility that I’ll fall into a Starving state if I leave without preserved food.
  221. It’s going to be difficult to get through the Beginner’s Prairie in the first place. I really wish someone could give me some advice here, even if it’s from an NPC.
  222. It’s a chicken and egg problem.
  223.
  224. Even then.
  225. I can’t tell if this game is being friendly to players or not.
  226. I’m the type of person who would rather not rather not read the stipulations of an insurance policy.
  227. In my opinion, having too much information is a waste of time in a way.
  228. Overall, VRMMO games are all pretty similar. It may have been my mistake to think this way.
  229. There are so many virtual games now. The only other type of game I’m experienced in is shooting games.
  230.
  231. I thought that having Summoner as a parent class during character creation was a rare thing.
  232. I didn’t think that they would have so few status spells either.
  233. That’s why I chose Summoner as my job.
  234. I never thought that it would be a red flag when forming parties.
  235. I curse my luck and sigh.
  236.
  237. Leaving that aside.
  238. I’m going to do some hunting on the way to my destination.
  239. It’s been a little more than a day since the game started, but people are already wandering around the outskirts of town.
  240.
  241. The only weapon I have attached to my waist is a Beginner’s Rod. I equip it on my right hand.
  242. It’s the starting weapon for Summoners.
  243. I’m examining its status, which I didn’t bother with yesterday.
  244.
  245. 【Weapon: Staff】Beginner’s Rod AP+0 M・AP+0 Power 2 Durability ∞
  246. A weapon that can be used to deal physical damage or cast spells. Its power is very limited, however.
  247. A piece of equipment that helps players get accustomed to the use of rods.
  248.
  249. Oh?
  250. Rods are not only meant to deal physical damage, but also supplement magic.
  251. As a starting weapon, it does nothing to physical or magic attacks. Zero.
  252. I tried hitting a monster with it yesterday, so I know firsthand.
  253. I was just hitting it though.
  254.
  255. I’m using a Summoner skill.
  256. Simply by selecting a spell from the list, my avatar begins to chant automatically. What a friendly setting.
  257.
  258. 「Summon Monster!」
  259.
  260. As I finish chanting, a list of monsters I can summon appears on a separate virtual window.
  261. There’s only one option for me though.
  262. I select that option.
  263.
  264. 《Do you wish to summon Volff, Wolf Lv1?》
  265.
  266. The obvious choice is 《Yes》. A magic circle appears on the ground in front of me.
  267. A faint shadow appears in the middle, eventually becoming a solid shape.
  268. It’s the same gray maned wolf that I summoned yesterday.
  269. Since I was given the option to pick a name, I called him 「Volff」.
  270. It was easy because it means Wolf in German.
  271.
  272. The green triangle, which acts as a player indicator, shows up on top of the wolf’s head as well.
  273. I use the beginner skill 【Identify】. I can see Volff’s name displayed clearly.
  274. There’s no mistake about it. It’s the same Wolf that I summoned yesterday.
  275. He’s playing right in front of my legs, baring his neck to me.
  276. His fur is actually a little thick, so I wouldn’t call him fluffy.
  277. It’s still more or less inviting, in any case.
  278. [SUMMONS WOLF]
  279. - CHAPTER 1
  280. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  281. Volff lowers his posture to intercept their attacks.
  282. As our enemies approach, I confirm that they’re Wild Dogs.
  283. Volff jumps at the Wild Dog that charged first.
  284. They stop and circle each other, waiting for the perfect chance to strike at the neck.
  285. The Wild Dog isn’t paying any attention to me.
  286. I thrust my rod into the Wild Dog.
  287. I aimed my attack at the lower part of its belly.
  288. I send it flying.
  289.
  290. Just as the other Wild Dog charges towards me, Volff attacks its body from the side.
  291. I thrust my rod into the belly of the fallen Wild Dog to keep it pinned onto the ground.
  292. It takes only an instant for Volff to sink his fangs into its windpipe.
  293. I see its HP bar decreasing at once.
  294. The other Wild Dog is approaching.
  295. It looks like it’s targeting Volff.
  296.
  297. Should I prioritize finishing off the Wild Dog whose movements are restricted?
  298. Or should I prioritize keeping the other Wild Dog in check?
  299. I hesitate, but my body moves instinctively before I reach a decision.
  300. I step on the fallen Wild Dog with my right leg, and turn my rod to the other Wild Dog.
  301. I hit the side of its face while it’s charging at Volff.
  302.
  303. It looks like it did a little bit of damage.
  304. But that buys me enough space to select a spell.
  305. [MC-KUN WITH SOME COMBAT SKILL AND VOLFF FIGHTING AND EASILY BEATING A WILD DOG MONSTER]
  306. - CHAPTER 2
  307. ---------------------------------------------------------
  308. I’m going to use Force Bullet, the preset Universal Magic available to beginners.
  309. Volff continues biting into the windpipe of the Wild Dog I’m stepping on. Its HP bar drops to zero.
  310. Now it’s just one more left.
  311.
  312. Perhaps seeing that it’s at a disadvantage, the remaining Wild Dog turns around in an attempt to flee.
  313.
  314. 「Force Bullet!」
  315.
  316. An invisible magical bullet hits it from behind, causing it to stumble.
  317. Its HP bar hasn’t decreased much.
  318. But it leaves an opening for Volff.
  319. He bites its hind leg and drags it, dealing damage continuously as he moves around.
  320. I close the distance immediately and thrust my rod into its belly.
  321. Its HP bar disappears in no time.
  322. [FORCE BULLET IS AN INVISIBLE MAGICAL BULLET THOUGH IT DOESN'T DO MUCH. VOLFF CAN MANHANDLE WILD DOGS WITH ITS JAWS]
  323. - CHAPTER 2
  324. -------------------------------------------------------------
  325. A section explaining the details of Summon Magic appears on a new window.
  326.
  327. 《Summoned monsters do not require food regardless of their type.》
  328. 《HP and MP recovery will occur in a similar fashion to players.》
  329. 《When dismissed, HP and MP will recover according to the length of the cooldown.》
  330.
  331. Oops.
  332. I was just about to skip the relevant sections.
  333. It’s a bad habit of mine to stop halfway when I try to read carefully.
  334. It’s convenient that summons don’t need food.
  335. But I doubt there’s going to be any penalty if I feed them anyway.
  336.
  337. 「You wanna eat?」
  338.
  339. I can just try it on the spot to see if he’ll eat it or not.
  340. I give a Wild Rabbit Meat to Volff, who happily chews on it.
  341.
  342.
  343. Oh.
  344. So he can eat it after all.
  345.
  346. I place my hand on Volff’s back, enjoying the sensation of his fur while waiting for him to finish his food.
  347. He’s gobbling it all down.
  348. The Wild Rabbit Meat eventually turned into bones.
  349.
  350. 「Are you satisfied?」
  351.
  352. I whisper to Volff, who’s licking his chops.
  353. He’s wagging his tail in satisfaction.
  354. I’ll give him a reward, if only once in a while.
  355. [VOLFF GUD BOI WHO CAN EAT IF HE WANTS BUT DOESN'T NEED TO. ALSO GUD BOI]
  356. - CHAPTER 2
  357. ------------------------------------------------------------
  358. Chapter 2
  359. Chapter 1Chapter 3
  360.
  361.
  362. Translator: Cryus
  363.
  364. The two shadows approaching us seem to be stray dogs.
  365. I can’t【Identify】their names. Maybe it’s because there’s still some distance between us.
  366. The only thing I see is their dog-like figures.
  367. I think they’re the same as the Wild Dog I fought yesterday.
  368. The red triangle markers are flashing, indicating that they’re targeting us.
  369.
  370. There was only one of them yesterday, so I managed to win without any difficulty.
  371. It was a tougher enemy compared to a Horn Rabbit.
  372. There’s always the option of escaping the battle.
  373.
  374. 「Volff, we’re going to fight them. But don’t overdo it, and stay close to me.」
  375.
  376. I confirm that I have a potion in my pocket, ready to use mid-battle.
  377.
  378. If it’s one on one, Volff can get an easy win at the cost of some damage.
  379. But what if it’s two on two?
  380. I can test it out since I’m with Volff.
  381.
  382. Volff lowers his posture to intercept their attacks.
  383. As our enemies approach, I confirm that they’re Wild Dogs.
  384. Volff jumps at the Wild Dog that charged first.
  385. They stop and circle each other, waiting for the perfect chance to strike at the neck.
  386. The Wild Dog isn’t paying any attention to me.
  387. I thrust my rod into the Wild Dog.
  388. I aimed my attack at the lower part of its belly.
  389. I send it flying.
  390.
  391. Just as the other Wild Dog charges towards me, Volff attacks its body from the side.
  392. I thrust my rod into the belly of the fallen Wild Dog to keep it pinned onto the ground.
  393. It takes only an instant for Volff to sink his fangs into its windpipe.
  394. I see its HP bar decreasing at once.
  395. The other Wild Dog is approaching.
  396. It looks like it’s targeting Volff.
  397.
  398. Should I prioritize finishing off the Wild Dog whose movements are restricted?
  399. Or should I prioritize keeping the other Wild Dog in check?
  400. I hesitate, but my body moves instinctively before I reach a decision.
  401. I step on the fallen Wild Dog with my right leg, and turn my rod to the other Wild Dog.
  402. I hit the side of its face while it’s charging at Volff.
  403.
  404. It looks like it did a little bit of damage.
  405. But that buys me enough space to select a spell.
  406. I’m going to use Force Bullet, the preset Universal Magic available to beginners.
  407. Volff continues biting into the windpipe of the Wild Dog I’m stepping on. Its HP bar drops to zero.
  408. Now it’s just one more left.
  409.
  410. Perhaps seeing that it’s at a disadvantage, the remaining Wild Dog turns around in an attempt to flee.
  411.
  412. 「Force Bullet!」
  413.
  414. An invisible magical bullet hits it from behind, causing it to stumble.
  415. Its HP bar hasn’t decreased much.
  416. But it leaves an opening for Volff.
  417. He bites its hind leg and drags it, dealing damage continuously as he moves around.
  418. I close the distance immediately and thrust my rod into its belly.
  419. Its HP bar disappears in no time.
  420.
  421. 《Racial Level Up! Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》
  422.
  423. A small stats screen appears in front of me. I turn my attention to it and see the stats section flashing.
  424.
  425. Basic stats
  426. DEX 15
  427. AGI 15
  428. INT 18
  429. STR 12
  430. VIT 15
  431. SPI 19
  432.
  433. How should I do this?
  434. I would specialize in a stat or two if I had other players as party members, but I can only rely on Volff as my partner for now.
  435. I’m probably going to hit monsters with my rod pretty often.
  436.
  437. I stare at the STR stat.
  438.
  439. 《Do you wish to add 1 point to STR?》
  440.
  441. The《Yes》and《No》options appear next to it.
  442. As I fix my gaze on the《Yes》option, my STR stat increases from 12 to 13.
  443. It’s my first step towards my character’s growth.
  444.
  445. 《2 bonus points have been added. You now have 21 bonus points in total.》
  446. 《You may learn the following Weapon Skill(s):【Club】【Two-handed Spear】【Punch】【Kick】》
  447. 《You may learn the following Support Skill(s):【Throw】》
  448. 《Do you wish to proceed to the skills selection screen?》
  449.
  450. I choose《Yes》and take a quick look.
  451. The main skills sections are Weapon, Defense, Magic, Production, and Support.
  452. But there are too many options for me to choose prudently.
  453. …It’s better to add my points after receiving some advice.
  454. I should prioritize moving to my destination.
  455. I made sure that my bonus points have increased from 19 to 21 before closing it.
  456.
  457. I stick my Survival Knife into the corpse of one of the Wild Dogs, which disappears in smoke.
  458. I didn’t get any drop items.
  459. It’s the same with the other Wild Dog. That’s too bad.
  460.
  461. I’m heading further west.
  462. I’m at the hill I saw while wandering around yesterday. The view from the top is spectacular.
  463. I see a few parties wandering around while hunting monsters.
  464.
  465. There are barely any monsters left to hunt.
  466. But that also means that I can continue west with less of a risk.
  467. I continue on the path with my eyes focused on my destination, which is the forest in the distance.
  468.
  469. It seems that Horn Rabbits are popular monsters that appear around the town.
  470. I hunted some yesterday, but after putting up a good fight just now, it’s an easy win for me even if I go solo.
  471. I wouldn’t say that I’ll get out of it without a scratch.
  472. Thanks to Volff, I managed to defeat five Horn Rabbits individually without taking any damage.
  473. I【Appraise】the item drops, which turned out to be two pieces of skin and three pieces of meat. I also picked up three horns.
  474.
  475. 【Material】Wild Rabbit Skin Raw Material Grade C Rarity 1 Weight 1
  476. The skin of a Horn Rabbit. Untanned, small piece of skin normally in circulation.
  477.
  478. 【Material】Wild Rabbit Meat Raw Material Grade C Rarity 1 Weight 1
  479. The meat of a Horn Rabbit. Thick, but known for its overwhelming pastoral taste.
  480.
  481. 【Material】Wild Rabbit Horn Raw Material Grade C- Rarity1 Weight 0+
  482. The horn of a Horn Rabbit. The tip is sharp.
  483.
  484. I’ve been relying item drops such as these to exchange for money.
  485. Horn Rabbits and Wild Dogs don’t drop any money at all.
  486.
  487. After defeating the third Horn Rabbit and confirming that the item drop was a piece of meat, the following information appeared.
  488.
  489. 《Job Level Up!》
  490. 《You may learn the following Support Skill(s):【Disassemble】》
  491. 《Staff Level Up!》
  492. 《Appraise Level Up!》
  493. 《Summon Monster 『Volff』 Level Up!》
  494.
  495. Oh.
  496. Nice.
  497.
  498. 《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》
  499.
  500. Oh.
  501. It looks like I can increase a desired stat for Monster Summons too.
  502. A small stats screen appears, just like when my Racial level increased.
  503. The stats section flashes as I look at it.
  504.
  505. Monster Summon Volff Wolf Lv1→Lv2
  506. DEX 8
  507. AGI 25 (↑1)
  508. INT 12
  509. STR 10
  510. VIT 15
  511. SPI 10
  512.
  513. That was quick.
  514. His AGI has already increased by 1.
  515. It was flashing when I saw it.
  516.
  517. 《This stat has already been increased from the current level up. You may not increase it any further.》
  518.
  519. Oh well.
  520. It looks like there’s a 2 point increase in stats, but I can only assign 1 point to my liking.
  521. I regret not having thought about this earlier.
  522. It’s frustrating.
  523. What do I want from Volff right now?
  524. I think I want to strengthen his physical attacks. It will help in close combat.
  525.
  526. I fix my gaze on the STR stat.
  527.
  528. 《Do you wish to add 1 point into STR?》
  529.
  530. The 《Yes》 and 《No》 options appear next to it.
  531. I focus on the 《Yes》 option, and his STR increases from 10 to 11.
  532. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but Volff looks happy.
  533. Maybe I should give him a reward.
  534. I wonder if Volff will eat the Wild Rabbit Meat?
  535. I bring up the menu screen and insert the keywords『Summon』『Monster』『Feed』on the search bar.
  536. A section explaining the details of Summon Magic appears on a new window.
  537.
  538. 《Summoned monsters do not require food regardless of their type.》
  539. 《HP and MP recovery will occur in a similar fashion to players.》
  540. 《When dismissed, HP and MP will recover according to the length of the cooldown.》
  541.
  542. Oops.
  543. I was just about to skip the relevant sections.
  544. It’s a bad habit of mine to stop halfway when I try to read carefully.
  545. It’s convenient that summons don’t need food.
  546. But I doubt there’s going to be any penalty if I feed them anyway.
  547.
  548. 「You wanna eat?」
  549.
  550. I can just try it on the spot to see if he’ll eat it or not.
  551. I give a Wild Rabbit Meat to Volff, who happily chews on it.
  552.
  553.
  554. Oh.
  555. So he can eat it after all.
  556.
  557. I place my hand on Volff’s back, enjoying the sensation of his fur while waiting for him to finish his food.
  558. He’s gobbling it all down.
  559. The Wild Rabbit Meat eventually turned into bones.
  560.
  561. 「Are you satisfied?」
  562.
  563. I whisper to Volff, who’s licking his chops.
  564. He’s wagging his tail in satisfaction.
  565. I’ll give him a reward, if only once in a while.
  566.
  567. As I’m about to continue moving, I see Volff holding something in his mouth.
  568. The Wild Rabbit Meat has been reduced to a Wild Rabbit Bone.
  569.
  570. 【Material】Wild Rabbit Bone | Raw Material | Grade E | Rarity 0+ | Weight 0+
  571. The bone of a Horn Rabbit. The only edible portion is the bone marrow now.
  572.
  573. I used【Appraise】on it, but I doubt it has any use or value.
  574.
  575. 「Do we need it?」
  576.
  577. Volff seems unwilling to part with the remains, so I take it from him and put it into my rucksack.
  578. Is it really just my imagination that he seems satisfied?
  579.
  580. 「Let’s hurry on then.」
  581.
  582. We continued on the path for a while.
  583. I saw other parties hunting on the way as well.
  584. Many of them are hunting Horn Rabbits because of the item drops.
  585. Hm?
  586. There’s a party battling a bird of some sort.
  587. I’m trying to【Identify】it, but the distance is too much.
  588. No, wait.
  589. I’ve closed the distance enough to use【Identify】.
  590.
  591. Steppe Hawk Lv.1
  592. Monster Enemy Target
  593.
  594. The red triangle marker on its head isn’t flashing.
  595. That’s because it isn’t attacking me.
  596.
  597. It looks like this hawk is targeting the magic user at the rear of the party.
  598. No, that’s a little inaccurate.
  599. It’s targeting something that belongs to the magic user.
  600. It’s following the magic user persistently.
  601.
  602. It’s a party of five. They’ve been attacking it continuously, but their attacks keep missing.
  603. They must be hesitating because they’re afraid of hitting the magic user.
  604. The bird that’s trying to peck the magic user’s head grabs something with its talons and flies up.
  605. It’s a piece of meat.
  606. I don’t know if I’m using【Identify】or【Appraise】, but when I look at it, a small window appears, showing me that it’s a Wild Rabbit Meat.
  607. The magic user regains his footing and fires a bolt of magic, but misses.
  608.
  609. 「Argh!!! Gimme back my meat!!!」
  610.
  611. The female bow user screamed.
  612. Well, I understand how they feel.
  613. They’ve had their item drop taken away from them.
  614. I guess these things happen. I’ll have to be careful too.
  615.
  616. 《Identify Level Up!》
  617.
  618. Oh?
  619. I didn’t participate in the battle, but my skill leveled up.
  620. I didn’t know it worked this way.
  621.
  622. I continue on the path heading west.
  623. I still don’t see the tower that’s supposed to be a landmark.
  624. I’ve been seeing fewer parties along the road as well.
  625. It’s times like these when I don’t encounter any monsters, even though I wish I did.
  626.
  627. I run into a monster eventually.
  628. I found a Horn Rabbit standing next to the path.
  629. The red triangle marker on its head flashes as it approaches.
  630. I【Identify】 it, and see that it is indeed a Horn Rabbit.
  631.
  632. Horned Rabbit Lv.1
  633. Monster Enemy Target Active
  634.
  635. Huh?
  636. There’s more information displayed now.
  637. Maybe it’s because my Identify skill has leveled up.
  638.
  639. 「Alright, let’s go, Volff.」
  640.
  641. I wonder if saying it made him slightly stronger?
  642.
  643. The battle is dragging on.
  644. This is weird.
  645. This rabbit is somewhat tough.
  646. Having Volff with me should give me more of an advantage in battle, but we haven’t defeated it yet.
  647. We’ve only managed to reduce its HP to about half. Why is it so tough?
  648. Why?
  649.
  650. It seems that I’ve made a single mistake.
  651. The horn on this rabbit isn’t straight. It’s bent slightly backwards.
  652. Is it a different monster altogether?
  653. I【Identify】it once again.
  654.
  655. Horned Rabbit Lv.1
  656. Monster Enemy Target Active・Enraged
  657.
  658. Um.
  659. Horn『ed』Rabbit?
  660.
  661. Damn you game devs, why the hell would you use such confusing names for monsters? (I mean it as a compliment)
  662. Personally, I like the fact that they’re having fun with this.
  663. But I should pay attention to more urgent things.
  664. What does Enraged mean?
  665.
  666. At first, this rabbit looked not too different from an ordinary Horn Rabbit.
  667. But that’s changed.
  668. Its horn is bending back even further.
  669. Its body has gotten slightly bigger as well, and part of its brown fur has been turning darker and gaining stripes.
  670. Its front teeth are turning into sharp fangs too.
  671. I have a really bad feeling about this.
  672. Its eyes are bloodshot now.
  673.
  674. The next instant.
  675. Something approaches me, and disappears right after that.
  676. The howls of two beasts are resounding.
  677. From what I could tell, Volff attacked the rabbit while it was hopping towards me.
  678. That was close.
  679. Volff is biting into the rabbit’s neck, trying to swing it around.
  680. The rabbit is hopping around, ignoring the damage it’s doing to itself.
  681. The beasts are shaving off each other’s lives.
  682.
  683. I prepare a Force Bullet to shoot it, but I can’t grasp the opportunity to fire the spell.
  684. I don’t want to risk hitting Volff until he lets go.
  685. As if he read my thoughts, Volff releases as soon as the rabbit hops again.
  686. Now.
  687. I fire it at the rabbit in midair.
  688.
  689. 「Force Bullet!」
  690.
  691. My magic hits it, but doesn’t decrease its HP much.
  692. But the rabbit is blown away and lands on its back, leaving a wide opening.
  693. [VOLFF APPARENTLY FTE, HAS SOME SORT OF MENTAL CONNECTION WITH SUMMONER, RELEASES AS SOON AS SUMMONER WANTS HIM TO WITH NO COMMUNICATION NEEDED]
  694. - CHAPTER 2
  695. ----------------------------------------------------------
  696. 「Volff, watch out for surprise attacks.」
  697.
  698. Volff lowers his posture and stays alert in response to my warning.
  699. Ooh, that’s kinda cool.
  700. [VOLFF SMART. VOLFF ALSO PROBABLY HAS THE SENSES OF A WOLF, CUS HE IS ONE]
  701. - CHAPTER 3
  702. -------------------------------------------------------------
  703. I’m taking another look at my map to confirm the location.
  704. There’s a small village further down the path from the tower.
  705. Halfway on the path is a giant rock. I just have to proceed on the narrow path from there.
  706. As soon as I leave the tower behind me, Volff growls all of a sudden.
  707. I take up my rod. Is it a monster?
  708. The silhouette that appears from the forest is the largest of all the monsters I’ve encountered so far.
  709. It’s a horse.
  710. [VOLFF GUD SENSES]
  711. - CHAPTER 3
  712. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  713. I have to stop it somehow.
  714. I just need some time, even a moment, to use my magic attacks.
  715. As soon as I hide behind a tree trunk, the horse charges and breaks it from the side.
  716. That was close.
  717. I’m hiding behind another tree, with Volff accompanying me.
  718. Where’s the horse?
  719. I stick my head out just slightly from the cover of the tree trunk and take a peek.
  720. I see the tail of the horse. It doesn’t seem like it’s noticed us yet.
  721. [A LEVEL 3 ENRAGED MONSTER IS STRONG ENOUGH TO SNAP A TREE IN HALF FROM A CHARGE]
  722. - CHAPTER 3
