  1. It was a day like any other. You were behind a desk. You played solitaire on the computer that was used for taking patient's information before they were whisked off into the back to have that strange lump checked out or to get that finger sewn back on. Like every day so far these past few months, you were stuck behind the desk.
  2. At first it wasn't so bad. The patients who were brought in into this little family run urgent care clinic were never intense accidents. Never usually were. Most of the time it was a family bringing their child in after they broke some sort of limb or a grandpa coming in trying to convince his family he was 'fit as a fiddle'.
  3. You remember reading over his notes and clearing seeing how 'fit' he truly was.
  4.
  5. Working here wasn't bad. It just wasn't what you expected. What you studied was to become an EMT, someone who hopped out of an ambulance and helped whoever needed you right on the spot. But once on the field, it didn't feel as good as you imagined. You still graduated and could clearly help others, but for now it was behind a desk while being able to help around the clinic when need be.
  6.
  7. Today, though, was a hard day. It started out as any other day, just browsing different websites to shop for new chairs for the waiting room. The manager of the clinic left that job to you seeing how you were the one who always had to stare at the old plastic chairs that were probably here before you were even born.
  8. Finding some wooden chairs with plush seating, you were about to click on the link when the door was thrown open!
  9. A woman rushed in, followed by two men holding a third in between them who was clearly injured with all the blood that was pouring from a head wound! The woman, frantic and wild even with a few bruises and cuts on her face, came to your desk with tears in her eyes and her voice coming out in almost sobs.
  10.
  11. “T-There was an accident. Please help.”
  12.
  13. That was all you needed to hear, already reaching for the intercom to call in a stretcher and telling them to hurry.
  14. This was the time that left you drained at the end of the day. It was always hard in these situations even as the receptionist to remember all the looks on their faces as the man was wheeled into the back with only the woman in tow. If this was hard on you, you could only imagine how being an EMT would feel at the end of the day.
  15. You grabbed your clipboard, heading to the two men in the uncomfortable plastic chairs to get their information and if they needed medical help.
  16. They both seemed too shaken to even notice your presence so you decided to bring them cups of water to possibly help them even the slightest.
  17. Even though you were getting used to the sight of blood and injuries, not everyone was accustomed to it. You couldn't blame them whatsoever.
  18.
  19. “Is the guy gonna be alright?”
  20. It was the first time any of the two spoke as you came back with water in hand. From the looks of the wound when you checked the patient, it didn't look very deep. You could never tell until scanned but from the doctor's words as you went to the back to grab their information, it didn't seem as serious as it looked.
  21.
  22. “Head wounds always bleed more than any other kind of wound so it looks worse than any other area. I'm sure it'll be fine. Do you want to see the doctor? We can have your cuts cleaned up.”
  23.
  24. It was a car accident so no wonder they were so shaken up. You wanted to do your best and make them as comfortable as possible.
  25.
  26.
  27.
  28. Once your shift was over, you popped in to say goodbye to your coworkers who weren't with patients. One noticed a smile on your face and slyly grinned towards you as they took your seat for their shift.
  29.
  30. “Going home to a special someone?” they asked, probably seeing how excited you were after this rough day.
  31.
  32. You huffed, putting your hands on your hips to playfully glare at your coworker who looked so smug resting their chin on their hands to stare up at you. You brushed your bangs aside even though they fell right back into place in your eyes.
  33.
  34. “I have no clue what you mean.”
  35.
  36. Play innocent and maybe you could get out of here before another group of people came in with blood covering them. Your coworker almost started again to tease you but your phone went off and you quickly made an excuse it was the person waiting at home.
  37. Luckily it was just an alarm but it saved you from anymore time at work.
  38.
  39. Your coworker already knew there was someone waiting for you. It wasn't what anyone would expect and you knew it would be easier just to deny. Honestly how would you be able to explain that you were housing a giant robot? Well giant robot was a broad term.
  40. Ratchet was a guest at your home from time to time. People wouldn't question why there was an ambulance hanging around your place with your job.
  41. Your first interaction with the Transformer was a shocking one, to say the least. It was a late night as you were leaving work when you spotted an ambulance parked against the side of the building.
  42. You looked around, hoping to find the driver and see if they needed anything from the clinic but didn't see a soul. Instead, you walked to the back about to open it when a gruff voice made you jump.
  43. “I wouldn't touch that if I were you.”
  44.
  45. It was gravely, making you look around to see if someone caught you in the act but no one was around. You peeked around the ambulance only to watch in shock as it started to change! With it being on the side of the building, it had the room to start folding forward and outwards until it resembled a human like shape! You hugged your backpack to your chest as the mass of metal that was once an ambulance slowly turned around and looked down at you.
  46. It had a face, it's body seeming worn down like an old car with what almost looked like a gut poking out. It was strange to see something like this you had never seen before.
  47.
  48. “Didn't anyone tell you look but don't touch!”
  49.
  50. You jumped in surprise, realizing the grizzled voice was coming from the lips on the robot! You weren't sure what to call it so you didn't say a word at first. You just stared with your jaw locked open in shock. This couldn't be real.
  51. You held up your backpack against your face, mumbling to yourself this couldn't be happening.
  52. Something gently bumped against your bag, making you peek around it and seeing the face up close and in your personal space! You bounced back, staring wide eyed past your bangs as the robot stood up straight.
  53.
  54. “You humans sure are strange... how can you see?”
  55.
  56. When something slid down over one of it's eyes, you thought it was some sort of laser and you knew this was it. This was all over. You would never be an EMT and no one would believe that you were attacked by a giant robot.
  57. But instead, you felt something brush against your forehead and push your bangs aside. The touch, though cool enough to make you shiver, was gentle and you opened your eyes to stare face to face with the robot.
  58.
  59. “Sorry for scaring ya there. I'm Ratchet.”
  60.
  61. When your eyes met, it was like a spark. At first you thought maybe the robot had shocked you into submission but neither of you moved. You couldn't pull yourself away. If you were in a romcom movie, you had a feeling a cheesy pop song would start playing.
  62. This was a feeling you hadn't experienced before and you wanted to know more.
  63.
  64. “Nice to meet you, Ratchet. Want to come home with me?”
  65.
  66. It was so forward of you that you were shocked those words came out of your mouth but the robot chuckled, a gravely sound that made you shiver and agreed. He even offered you a ride back inside.
  67.
  68. That was how you two met and now became whatever you could call it. You found out he was called a Transformer, an alien who crash landed on this planet and works with other Transformers against villains of all sorts. You decided not to ask too many questions, especially when you came home and found the ambulance not in the usual spot. It happened now and again but sometimes you wished he could always stay.
  69.
  70. Tonight was one of those nights where you were silently praying as you turned the corner of your street, hoping to see that ambulance snug fit in the alley. Ratchet usually waited there until you returned to open the garage for him to slide into.
  71. Taking a deep breath as you rounded the corner, you wanted to sigh in relief when you spotted the familiar red and white colors.
  72. You couldn't hold yourself back, running towards the transformer to hug the front half of the ambulance.
  73.
  74. “Took ya long enough, kid.”
  75.
  76. Though he was grumbling and would probably complain, you knew he really didn't mind. He was just as eager to see you after a long day of work, if not more. You pulled back, watching still fascinated like the first time as he turned back into his larger, imposing form. He looked down at your, a frown on his face before you could feel the waves of his electromagnets snagging your backpack from you, watching the metal buckles cling to his clenched fist.
  77.
  78. “Come on. You look like you had it rough today.”
  79.
  80. He knelt down, easily picking you up which made you almost blush still. With a sturdy body like his, it wasn't hard to lift you. It made you feel small and safe instead of frazzled from a busy day at work.
  81. You were finally able to relax, leaning against his chest which was cool against your cheek. Like a car that had left out all night long. The thought made you frown, turning to look up at Ratchet as he bent down when the garage was opened.
  82.
  83. “I missed you.”
  84.
  85. Ratchet looked shocked, almost banging his head onto the ceiling when you told him so straight forward.
  86. He almost even dropped you when he put your bag down before taking a seat himself, still befuddled at your confession.
  87. You decided to save him from anything he had to say, usually something sarcastic or grumbling about 'weird humans'. You snuggled up close in his lap, making yourself comfy before finding the remote near the table you had set up in the garage. A small TV for you both to just relax and take it easy together until the time came when Ratchet was needed.
  88. You cherished these moments, always making yourself sprawled out on top of him to get a kick out of him.
  89.
  90. “Come on you. Always trying to take up the most room you can, huh?” Ratchet groaned playfully, lifting you back up to sit properly on his lap as you started to channel surf while trying to hold back your laughter.
  91.
  92. When his arms carefully wrapped around you to hold you against him, you leaned on back and relaxed.
  93. Though work was rough and some days would be harder, it was always worth it when the day ended. You could come home, grab a snack and relax with Ratchet. Your days off were even better. Some days you would go out together when you had the chance. Usually places that weren't very crowded and you two could be alone together. It made everything worth it and made that one night after work a night you'd never forget.
  94.
  95. “Tell me about your day, kid.”
  96.
  97. He referred to you as a kid, trying to tell him other wise but only for him to remind you he was much much MUCH older than you. He had a couple hundred years or so, but you still liked to tease him.
  98.
  99. “Alright, grandpa.”
  100.
  101. Ratchet huffed, pulling you upwards until you were facing one another. He was glaring but when you leaned forward to press a kiss to his cheek, the glare was gone and he was almost stumbling over his words. Instead of letting him turn away from embarrassment, you cupped his cheeks to face you once more and pressed another kiss to his lips.
  102.
  103. “Cheeky thing, ain't ya?” Ratchet asked, once more glaring at you even as you slid down his body and settled back into your comfy spot.
  104.
  105. “Isn't that why you said yes to come home with me?”
  106.
  107. Ratchet didn't answer, knowing you were right but being too stubborn to admit and instead just wrapped his arms back around you and hugged you close as you found a channel that you both could enjoy together snuggled up for the night. It was going to be an easy night in and nothing was about to ruin your time together tonight.
