  1. Virtual Audio Cable Setup
  2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. After getting the software:
  4.
  5. Pre: Check the quality of your system's sound (24 bit & 48 kHz- etc).
  6. [WINDOWS: Right click the speaker icon -> Sound -> Playback -> Right Click Device -> Properties -> Advanced Tab]
  7.
  8. Generally, go to VAC Control Panel (<your install directory>/vcctlpan.exe), set the number of cables (e.g one for the game, another for a music player) and quality (44100 Hz, 48000 Hz, etc).
  9.
  10. 1. Set a virtual line as the default playback device. This is so game sound is separated from the speakers (headphones, whatever actual hardware is outputting the sound).
  11.
  12. 2. Go to Sound -> Recording, under Line 1's properties in the Listen tab, set it to play through Speakers or preferred device. This is so the line is hearable through the device.
  13.
  14. 3. Make other virtual lines for music players, VOIP, microphone, etc. Make sure to go to those individual programs' settings to output through the respective virtual lines, and set the lines to play through the speakers, etc.
  15.
  16. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17. Game Recording (keeping music separate from game sound)
  18. 1.) Go to DXtory's Sound Options.
  19.
  20. 2.) Set one audio stream to record as the virtual line set to default (game audio stream).
  21.
  22. 3.) Add other audio streams (e.g your music player, VOIP applications) if desired; however the initial output video will have all the sound mixed in.
  23.
  24. 4.) The audio stream(s) can be extracted (Right Click in Windows Explorer, Extract Audio Stream), and re-added in using a video editting software.
  25.
  26. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  27. Additional Notes:
  28. [CPU Name: AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 555 Processor]
  29. [CPU Speed: 3214MHz]
  30.
  31. --High CPU usage, sound may get distorted or slowed down.
  32. --Because of the possible impacts on performance and sound quality, I only set up the sound when I intend on recording gameplay while playing music.
  33.
  34. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  35. Common issues:
  36. --No sound at all [trying to set up for the first time.]
  37. Try restarting the computer.
  38.
  39. <From Help File>
  40. --There are cracks and pops while I pass my sound over a Virtual Cable.
  41.
  42. If Virtual Cable is the only path between two applications (one is playing back and another is recording), try the following:
  43.
  44. If your application uses DirectSound under Windows 5.x, check and adjust the DirectSound hardware acceleration level.
  45. Check the CPU load and try to lower it if high.
  46. Try to stop unnecessary application activity.
  47. Try to increase the buffering time in audio application.
  48. Try to decrease the number of milliseconds per interrupt parameter for the cable.
  49. Try to use stream buffer watermarks.
  50. If there are other (hardware or software) devices in the path (for example, an application records from a device and plays back to Virtual Cable, or vice versa), please also check if this issue is not caused by clock difference.
