- >It’s been several months since Sunny told his friends the truth. Things aren’t quite back to the way they used to be, but none of them are on bad terms with each other, and Sunny still keeps in touch with them
- >Every few weeks, Sunny’s mother drives him to Faraway Town so he can visit them. This time, they’re all going to have a picnic at their old hangout spot
- >The whole group is gathered in the kitchen at Kel and Hero’s house. Sunny, Kel, and Aubrey are sitting at the table (Aubrey has her feet up on it, much to Hero’s chagrin)
- >Hero and Basil are packing the picnic basket. Kel and Aubrey are having a (thankfully amicable) discussion about the most recent episode of a tv show. Sunny had never heard of it, so he didn’t have anything to add, but he was content to just be in the presence of his friends
- >The preparations seem to be almost complete when Hero suddenly snaps his fingers. ”Shoot, I completely forgot about the lemonade!”
- >”Oh, that’s right! Well, it’s fine, we can squeeze it right now,” Basil says, then he turns to Sunny. “Could you pass me the lemons, Sunny?”
- >Sunny perks up when Basil addresses him, then he stares at him blankly for a few moments, uncomprehending
- >”Th-the lemons… they’re right there.” Basil gestures to the yellow fruit on the table, and Sunny’s eye widens in understanding
- >“Oh, you mean the oragnes.” He picks one up and holds it out to Basil, who is looking at him with a bewildered expression on his face
- >Did he do something wrong? Sunny feels anxious all of a sudden. Kel and Aubrey have stopped talking. Every single one of his friends are giving him odd looks
- >Aubrey breaks the silence first. ”What the hell is an “oragne?”
- >”It’s… this, right?” Sunny says with a note of desperation in his voice
- >”Sunny… you *do* know that that’s called a “lemon,” right…?” Basil says to Sunny very slowly
- >Sunny looks at the fruit, then at Basil. His brow furrows as gears turn in his head, and he has a moment of horrible clarity
- >”Oh my god, he didn’t,” Aubrey whispers in disbelief behind him. There’s a brief pause, then she and Kel burst out laughing. Sunny blushes in embarrassment
- >”You guys, don’t- that’s not-“ Hero attempts to quiet them down, but he can barely get a word out through fits of giggles he (unsuccessfully) tries to stifle
- >Basil is holding back laughter as well, but he gives Sunny a genuinely sympathetic smile and puts a hand on his shoulder
- >Despite himself, Sunny starts laughing too, and it’s the most he’s done so in over four years
