  1. Goal: Consecutively complete the 4 major English version GBC Pokémon glitched categories (Red/Blue NSC, Yellow NSC, Gold/Silver Any%, Crystal Any%) in under 1 hour.
  2.
  3. This is a novelty challenge that has been tossed around in various forms in recent months. The basic idea is inspired by darbian's Marihour challenge (https://pastebin.com/QaCUUAZ8). The seeds for the Pokéhour concept were initially planted around the time the sum of glitched records approached the sub-hour mark, thanks in large part to advancements in all 4 categories in the past year and a half.
  4.
  5. You can see a leaderboard that tracks sum of glitched PBs/WRs here: http://dabomstew.com/recordpages/leaderboard_pokemon_gbcglitched.html. Note that RTA timing does not include time for TID manips (or, in the case of Yellow, the intro sequence), which are necessary for fast completion of Blue/Silver/Crystal.
  6.
  7. The current state of the glitched routes makes sub-1 hour well within reach, but by no means trivial, so it's a good time to try to achieve the challenge, while it still has some luster. I'll be aiming to stream attempts of this challenge starting sometime in late 2018, and plan to continue until I hit the sub-hour mark.

  12. After getting my feet wet with all 4 glitched categories, I came up with the below ruleset that I will be following to make it a meaningful challenge:
  13.
  14. (1) Play the games in chronological order of release.
  15.
  16. - If you don't fix the order of games, you can frontload the "RNG"-heavy categories (Silver/Yellow), which removes a good deal of the challenge. Chronological order is a simple restriction, and creates a nice dramatic structure to the challenge, with respect to where the crucial tricks take place.
  17.
  18. (2) Play the games on Game Boy Player with the GBP disc.
  19.
  20. - GBP is by far the most common platform that can be captured, and allows for GBP cartswapping without having to power off the Gamecube. GBP still feels more *official* than GBI to me as well (and is obviously more *official* than emulator).
  21.
  22. (3) Timing starts at power on/hard reset for the first category (Red/Blue NSC) and ends at the RTA endpoint for the final category (Crystal Any%).
  23.
  24. (4) Cartswapping is allowed once the RTA endpoint is reached for each category.
  25.
  26. (5) Use of EonTimer and other external timing/execution aides are not allowed.
  27.
  28. - No sense in cheapening the actual execution parts of this challenge, and I'd generally like to assume a live marathon setting, to prove it can be feasibly completed in such an environment.

  31.
  32.
  33. It would take a truly wretched soul to try to cheese the spirit of the challenge, but just in case, there are other obvious rules in place, such as "only 1 console can be used for gameplay" and "all games must have cleared save data before beginning an attempt".
  34.
  35. Rough target times to get sub-1 hour (includes the times for TID manip and cartswapping):
  36. - Blue: 13:00
  37. - Yellow: 15:00
  38. - Silver: 18:00
  39. - Crystal: 14:00
