- Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories vanilla FAQ (June 2021)
- Q: What are you trying to do?
- A: Beat Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories as quickly as possible without using RNG manipulation or card duplication. FM uses the same cards as the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG but has different rules.
- Q: What rules are different?
- A: The main one is that you must play exactly one card per turn. However, you can combine cards (including magics and traps) to make stronger ones. A single summon is often a combination of 3-5 cards from your hand. At the start of each turn, you draw until your hand has 5 cards. Because of this, it's often useful to "toss" less useful cards. Also, high-level monsters do not require tributes to summon, so cards such as Blue-eyes Ultimate Dragon (4500 ATK) and Gate Guardian (3750) and are nearly unbeatable without magics and traps.
- Q: What is "vanilla"?
- A: The original game, as opposed to a modified version.
- Q: What are you playing on?
- A: ePSXe, an emulator for PS1 games.
- Q: What is the world record?
- A: 2:53:08 by Kanek.
- Q: But speedrun.com says the record is 1:07?
- A: That run used RNG manipulation, which has a completely different playstyle. RNG manipulated runs will have their own leaderboard soon.
- Q: What is your goal time?
- A: I have two goal times: PB and world record. Which one I go for depends on the luck I get.
- Q: What is the strategy for this run?
- A: It's essentially the same strategy as a casual player would use -- but in much less time. You want to fuse for the monster Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon (2800 ATK) and power it up using equips such as Dragon Treasure and field magics such as Umi. A THTD fusion typically consists of 1 dragon, 1 thunder, and 1 filler monster. So I want to start with and win as many of these cards as possible. I will reset for a deck that has an equip that works on THTD and at least 2 combined dragons/thunders, and then I will farm duelists who drop these cards at the highest rates.
- Q: What are the icons on the left?
- A: From top to bottom: number of dragons, thunders, equips, fields, traps, spellcasters and Megamorphs.
