幕間　剣を探して三千メートル
Intermission: Searching 3000 meters for a sword.
そういえば最近忘れ気味だが、少しだけライオルの事を話そうと思う。
Author: Speaking of which, recently forgotten but I think I’ll talk a little bit about Lior.

　彼は実は今、あの家に住んでいない。
Actually, that guy is not living in that house.

　話は家を出る一ヶ月前まで遡る。
The story goes back to one month ago before leaving the house.

　俺はレウスも連れず一人で彼の元へ赴いていた。
I didn’t bring Reus and went to him alone.

「……来たか」
“...You’ve arrived?” (Lior)
「ああ……来たぞ」
“Aaa... Yes” (Sirius)

　前回来た時に俺達は決めていたのだ。
During last time visit, we had decided.
　次に会う時は本気で戦うと。
The next time when we meet, we will fight seriously.
　その証拠にライオルは鎧と自慢の愛剣を装備し、俺もまたディーから貰った剣とミスリルナイフに投げナイフ等とフル装備である。銃魔法は無粋なので使わないと決めていた。
As a proof, Lior is wearing armor and wear his proud favourite sword, while I’m using the sword that I got from Dee and fully equipped with mithril knife as a throwing knife.

「これが最後になるかもしれぬからのう。頼むから……わしより先に死んでくれるなよ？」
“This probably will be a last time. I beg you... don’t die first before me OK?”(Lior)
「そっちこそ、死ぬなよ？」
“Same goes over there, don’t die OK?”(Sirius)

　それ以上の言葉は無く、俺達は場所を移して本気で殺しあった。
I don’t have anything else to say, we changed place and to kill each other seriously.
　俺は戦闘スイッチへと切り替えて本気で剣を振り下ろし、ライオルは殺す気で剛剣を振るう。正に死闘であった。
I change to battle stance, swinging down sword seriously, and Lior is swinging sword hardly with the intention of killing. Indeed it was a battle to the death.

　……戦いは無我夢中だったので覚えていない。
...I was too absorbed in the battle and I couldn’t remember about it.

　結果だけを言うと、森の中に幾つものクレーターが出来上がり、ライオルは片腕を斬り飛ばされて半死半生になり、俺は家に帰れぬほどに消耗してしまい初めてライオルの家に泊まることになった。
If I only talk about the result, there were many craters showed up in the forest, Lior was half dead with sword in his hand half the time, and I was so exhausted that I couldn’t go back home, so I stay in Lior’s house.
　正直ライオルは死んでもおかしくなかったのだが、本人の生存本能と俺の治療によって生き長らえた。腕も何とかくっつけたので、リハビリをすればまた使えるようになるだろう。
Honestly, it’s not weird if Lior died, but because of survival instinct and my treatment, he’s going to live for very long time.

「はっはっは！　今回は流石に本気で死ぬと思ったわい」
“Hahaha! I thought I died seriously this time.” (Lior)
「笑うなよ。爺さんが死んだらこっちがへこむだろうが」
“Don’t laugh. Here (I or Sirius) feel bad if old man (Lior) dies.” (Sirius)
「すまんすまん。じゃが……全盛期近くまで戻してもお主に勝てなかったのう」
“I’m sorry. Then... even if I am at my prime age, I won’t be able to win against you.”(Lior)

　珍しくしんみりとした様子だった。だけどその年でここまで体力を戻したのは異常に凄い事だぞ。前世の俺でもそこまでは出来なかった。
It’s unusual to be in a state of despair. But, it’s abnormally wonderful feeling that the strength from those years is returning from now on. I couldn’t do it even if in previous life of mine.

「何だ？　ついに引退でもするのか。今度こそ本気で隠居か？」
“What is it? Are you going to retire finally? Are you going to retire seriously this time?” (Sirius)
「……逆じゃ！」
“...It’s the other way around!” (Lior)
　数時間前には死にかけていたのに、ライオルは拳を握り締め獰猛な笑みを浮かべていた。ああもう、力んだせいでまた血が出てるだろうが。
Even though he was close to death several hours ago, Lior clenched his fist and show a ferocious smile. Hey you, strain yourself, you’d bleed again.
「わしは旅に出る。弟子を探すでもない、ただ己を鍛え上げる為に旅へ出るのじゃ！」
“I will go out on journey. I’m not going to search for student, I’m going out to travel and train myself!” (Lior)
「おいおい、年を考えろよ」
“Oi oi, think about your age.”

「関係無いわ！　途中で野垂れ死んだらそれまでの話じゃよ。それに、もうお主が訪れる事がない以上、ここに居る理由も無いのじゃからな」
“That is unrelated! If I die while one the field, then talk about that. Besides, since you are not going to visit anymore, there’s no reason to stay here.”(Lior)
　流石に学校まで行くとなると、ここまで来るのが面倒な距離になる。だから俺達は最後と思い本気で戦ったのだが……そうきたか。
Indeed, when I go to school, it’ll become tedious distance to come here. That’s why we thought this will be our last fight... or is it?

「そうか。まあ爺さんの人生だ、俺が言うのも筋違いだな」
“Is that so? Oh well, it’s old man life, it’s also unreasonable for me to say.”(Sirius)
「そういう事じゃ。ところで、お主はあと何回くらいこれそうじゃ？」
“Such thing. By the way, how many times you are going to be like this?”(Lior)
「うーん……何もなければ二回かな？」
“Yes.. if everything maybe twice?” (Sirius)
「じゃったらお主の弟子を連れて来てほしい。特にエミリアは必ずじゃ！」
“Well then, I want your disciple. Emilia particularly!” (Lior)

　何故エミリアなのか？
Why Emilia?
　この爺さん、とんでもない孫バカであったのだ。
This old man, acting like a silly grandchild.　レウスがお世話になっているので姉として挨拶しておきたいと、エミリアを爺さんに会わせたのが切っ掛けだった。
Since Reus is indebted and the sister wanted to see him, it’s an opportunity for him to meet Emilia.

『初めまして、レウスの姉であるエミリアです。弟のレウスがいつもお世話になっています』
“Nice to meet you, I am Emilia, Reus’ sister. Thank you for taking care my brother, Reus.”(Emilia)
『ほう？　可愛らしくて礼儀正しい子じゃのう。わしはライオルという爺じゃ。いつもレウスをボコボコにしてすまんのう』
“Hoo? What a cute and polite child huh. I am the old man called Lior. Sorry for always making Reus worn out.” (Lior)
『いいえ、あの子も楽しそうですからお気になさらず。ライオル様もあの子の相手で大変でしょう？』
“No, since that child is having fun, you don’t have to worry about it. Lior-sama is probably having hard time becoming that child’s (battle) partner.” (Emilia)
『なーに、わしも楽しんでおるから問題ないわい。ほれ、何も無いがお茶でも飲むか？　甘い物がよければ果物もあるぞ？』
“What, it’s not a big deal because I’m enjoying myself too. Hey look, there is nothing much here but do you drink tea? If you don’t mind sweet things, there is fruit too, you know?” (Lior)
『ああ、それは私が用意しますライオル様』
“Aaa, I’ll prepare that, Lior-sama.” (Emilia)
『むう……様なんて畏まった言い方をせずとも、家族みたいに気軽に接してくれて良いのじゃよ？』
“Hmmm... you don’t have to be too formal, feel free to think this as a family?”(Lior)
『えっと、じゃあ……お爺ちゃん？』
“Etto, well... Ojii-chan?” (Emilia)
『お爺ちゃんっ！？　お、おお……何じゃこの胸を満たす喜びは？』
“Ojii-chan!? O, oo... what kind of wonderful feeling in my chest?”
『だ、大丈夫お爺ちゃん？』
“Are you alright, Ojii-chan?”
『おおう！？　へ、平気じゃ、爺ちゃんは無敵じゃよ！』
“Ooouu!? Calm down, this old man is invincible you know!”

　以上の流れがあり、ライオルはエミリアを孫のように気に入ってしまったのだ。
　レウスも似たようなものなのに、扱いに差がないかと聞いたことがある。
There are more course of events, and Lior likes Emilia like a grandchild. Although Reus looks similar, I heard there is no difference in treatment.

『小僧はお主の弟子であり、わしは臨時講師みたいな者じゃ。あれはあれで可愛いが、エミリアと比べようもないわい！』
“Those youngsters are your disciple, and I’m like their special tutor. It’s cute here and there but it can’t be compared to Emilia.”

　……との事である。
...That kind of thing.
　爺さんは結婚もしておらず、弟子を持ったことはあるが子供のように扱ってたわけじゃない。
Old man isn’t married, but it doesn’t mean that a disciple should be treated like a child.
　そう考えると、己の弟子でもないレウスとエミリアは自分の孫の様なものなんだろう。孫に剣を教え、孫を可愛がる……わかりやすい爺さんだ。
When I think about this, I don’t treat Reus and Emilia as a grandchild. Tell the sword in front of your grandchild, that they are cute.... what an easy to understand old man.

「連れて来てもいいが、エミリア優先は何故だ？」
“We also come here but why Emilia is priority?” (Reus?)
「勿論会いたいからじゃ。レウスには奥義を見せてやろうと思ったが……まあそれはついでじゃな」
“Because I want to meet her, of course. Anyway, I've showed Reus my secret moves... well incidentally.

　いや……せめて逆にしてやれよ。レウスが泣くぞ？
No...do it opposite at least. Reus will cry you know?
　そんな事実も知らず、レウスはライオルから奥義を見せてもらって目を輝かせていたのであった。
Not having affected with that fact, Reus wants to see secret moves from Lior and his eyes are sparkling.

　そんなライオルと最後に会ったのは、俺達が家を出る数日前だ。
That was our last time meeting with Lior, and we will leave the house in few more days.
　すでに旅に出る身支度を整えており、家の中はすっきりとしていた。俺に挨拶が終ると同時に出るつもりなのだろう。
Travel outfits were arranged already for the travel, the inside of the house look neatly, I finish greeting and go out at the same time.

「まずは感謝じゃな。わしの新たなる目標となってくれたお主には本当に感謝しておる。ありがとう」
"First of all, thank you. I am really grateful that you have become my new objective. Thank you." (Lior)

「何度も言ったが気にするなよ。俺だって強くなる為のライバルとなってくれて感謝しているさ」
"I said many times, don't worry about it. After all, I'm grateful for becoming my rival and I have become strong." (Sirius)
　ガッチリと手を繋いで別れを済ますと、ライオルは荷物とは違った小袋を取り出し渡してくれた。
After finish with parting by holding hands tightly, and Lior took out different small pouch from the luggage and give it to me.

「それは過去の弟子に渡そうと思って作った免許皆伝の証じゃ。小僧がお主の目から見て十分だと思ったら渡してほしい」
"This is the proof of teaching all skills that was made in the past and I thought I'll hand that to my disciple. If you think that boy is good enough based on your opinion, I want you to hand it to him." (Lior)

　袋には剣のマークが彫られたメダリオンと一通の手紙が入っていた。
A pouch contains a medallion that has a sword mark and one letter.

「お主の行き先はエリュシオンじゃろう？　あそこにはわしの愛剣を作ったチビで偏屈な爺が住んでおるのじゃよ。その手紙はそいつにレウスの剣を打ってほしいという紹介状じゃ」
"Your destination is Elysion? A stubborn short old man lives there made my favourite sword. That letter is a letter of introduction that asking him to make sword for Reus."
　ライオルという変態から偏屈と呼ばれる爺さんか。一体どれほど気難しい人物なのやら。
From Lior says, a weird old man call a stubborn old man huh. What on earth this hard to please person I wonder.
　しかし免許皆伝といい、レウスの剣を打ってもらえといい、何だかんだでレウスを大事にしているんだな。
Although having full mastery of secret arts  and Reus' sword made are good things, but there is other important thing for Reus.

　レウスは実力はすでにエミリアの上であるが、彼女に頭が上がらないのだ。せめて剣に関する事だけでも優越感を味あわせてやりたい。
Reus' ability is already exceeding Emilia's but she doesn't raise her head. At least, in relation to the matter of sword only, nevertheless I would like them to taste of superiority.

「あ、勿論エミリアの分もお願いしておるぞ。レウス以上の物を作らないと殴りに行くと書いておいたわい」
"Aa, of course I'm requesting one more for Emilia. I wrote that he should produce things that Reus doesn’t have.” (Lior)

　……レウスはどう頑張っても姉には勝てないようである。
...Even if Reus tries hard, he still couldn’t win against his sister.

「ではな。今度会う時はお主に絶対勝ってみせるからのう！」
“Well then. When next time we meet, I will definitely win against you!" (Lior)　そうして満面の笑みを浮かべたライオルは、六十歳を前にして再び旅に出たのであった。
Lior put up a big smiles on his face, travel out once again before becoming sixty years old.





　そんなこんなで、時は学校から合格を貰い、学生寮に入る二日前である。
At that time, we passed the exam at schools and it was two days before entering student dormitory.
　俺達はライオルから紹介された偏屈爺を探し、エリュシオンの町を歩き回っていた。
We were looking for the stubborn old man introduced by Lior and were walking around the town of Elysion.
「とはいえ、店の名前しか教わってないからな。町は広いし、一体どこにそんな爺さんがいるのやら」
"That being said, it's because we only know name of the store. I wonder where on earth that old man is." (Reus)

「じっちゃんの話だと、ずんぐりむっくりで辛気臭い上に口うるさいチビな爺だって言ってたな」
"According to Jii-chan's talk, he likes to nag and irritating shorty.”

　悪口増えてないか？
More incoming insult?

「確か店の名前が『撃滅滅殺金剛鍛冶屋(げきめつめっさつこんごうかじや)』でしたよね？」
"I think the name of the shop is [Destruction Annihilation Indestructible Blacksmith] isn't?"

「本当にそんな店名あるのか？　ネーミングセンス皆無だろ」
"Is that really a name for a shop? No naming sense don't you think"
「その分わかりやすいですよ。あ、シリウス様、あそこの屋台の人に聞いてみてはどうですか？　屋台が年季入ってますし、この辺りに詳しそうですよ」
"That part is easy to understand you know. Aa, Sirius-sama, how about asking the person at stall? A street stall contains apprenticeship (?) and the details seems to be around here."
　エミリアも情報収集の大切さと収集のやり方をわかってきているようだ。感心しながら見ていると、屋台の串焼きを手に情報を得て帰ってきた。
Emilia seems to understand the importance and methods of information gathering.  While admiring and looking at her, she obtains information, so she comes back with grill skewer on hands.

「わかりました。そこの路地を曲がった先にあるそうです」
"Understood. I heard that the shop is at the end of that curvy alleyway."
「意外に近くにあったんだな。早速向かうとしよう」
"It's unexpectedly close. Let's go there immediately."

　路地を曲がり、先を進むこと数分。目当ての『撃滅滅殺金剛鍛冶屋(げきめつめっさつこんごうかじや)』は確かにあったので中に入ってみた。
We advance towards the end of curvy alleyway for few minutes. Since there was certainly the signboard of [Destruction Annihilation Indestructible Blacksmith], we enter inside.
　外見からもそうだが、中を見て確証した。この店、閑古鳥が鳴いている。
We confirmed (the place) from its outer appearance and when I look inside.
　看板は色褪せているし、棚の上や壷などに埃が溜まっているのだ。まるで無人屋敷みたいだが、奥から金槌を叩く音は聞こえるので人はいるようである。
The signboard is fading and dust is collected on the shelf, pots, and others.
　一見商売する気は無さそうだが、武器に対する情熱は本物のようだ。少ないながらも飾られている武器がしっかり手入れされているからだ。
It looks like unattended premise, but since the sound of striking hammer can be heard from inside, so there seems to be a person.

「ここかな？　すいませーん！」
"Is it here? Excuse me!"

　レウスが叫ぶが反応無し。相変わらず奥から金槌を叩く音が止まらない。
There is no reaction from Reus' shout. The sound of striking hammer from inside is still not stopping.

「おーい、すいませーん！　お客として来たんですけどーっ！」
"Oii, excuse me! I have come as a visitor!" (Reus)

　無反応。あまりにも金槌を叩き過ぎて耳がバカになっているのかな？
Still no reaction. Does his ear become stupid after hitting hammer too much?

「さっさと出てこいよ！　この無駄酒飲みのネーミングセンス皆無野郎が！」
"Come out quickly! This useless drunk man who has no naming sense!"
「何だとこの馬鹿野郎！」
"What did you say, fool!"

　そういう悪口は聞こえるんだな。というか、お前どこからそんな悪口を知った？
Such insult can be heard. Rather, how do you know such insult?

「じっちゃんがそう言えば反応するって言ってた」
"Jiichan said if I say it like that, I will get a reaction."

　ライオルとこの人は一体どういう関係だったのやら。
I wonder what kind of relation between Lior and this man.
　憤慨しながら出てきたのは、俺と身長の変わらない爺さんであった。この長い髪と髭に、手足が短くともがっしりとした頑丈そうな体を持つ種族はドワーフだ。
While coming out and feel angry, I can see his height and mine are no different. His race is dwarf, with that long hair and beard, both short hand and legs, and possess tough body.
　酒と鍛造を愛し、優れた武器が欲しいならドワーフを探せと言われる程、ドワーフは鉱石や鍛冶に詳しいのである。
As for wanting an excellent weapon, since the more Dwarf who love sake and forging, find and searching, the more Dwarf get know better on ores and smithing.
「やっと出てきた。初めまして、私はシリウスと申すのですが……」
"Finally, you have come out. Nice to meet you, I am called Sirius..."
「子供と貴族は相手にしない主義なんだ。どうせ冷やかしなんだからさっさと帰れ馬鹿野郎が！」
"What, I don't care about kids or nobles. Anyhow since you were making fun of me, go home quickly idiot!"
「あの、冷やかしではなくライオルの紹介でここに来たのですが？」
"Err, we come here not to tease you but, we came here by Lior's introduction?"
「ああっ？」
"Aaaa?" (Dwarf)
　店の奥に戻ろうとしたドワーフであるが、ライオルという言葉に反応しこちらへ視線を向けてくれた。
The dwarf was about to get back into the store but he reacted when heard about Lior and he turned his eyes (on us).

「これが紹介状です。読んでいただければ私達がわかるかと」
"This is the letter of introduction. You will understand about us if you read that." (Sirius)
「ふん……嘘だったらわしのハンマーで殴り殺してやるからな馬鹿野郎が」
"Hmmm...if you lie, I'll beat you idiot by hammer to death." (Dwarf)

　この人、馬鹿野郎が口癖なんだろうか？
I wonder if this person's favorite word is idiot?
　差し出した手紙を引っ手繰るように奪い、親の仇を見るような目で手紙を読み始めた。
He snatches the presented letter and began to read while having the eyes of enemy's parent.
　読み終えると同時に手紙をくしゃくしゃと丸めてそこら辺に放り投げ、陳列されていた大きな剣を数本並べ、左端の剣をレウスの目前へ差し出した。
The letter is crumpled away at the same time as he finishes reading, tossed it to whereabouts of several great swords being lined up, and present sword on left edge before Reus' eyes.

「持って振ってみろ。全部振ってしっくり来たのを言ってみな」
"Hold this and swing it. I'd say that I have used everything and it turns out great.
「わかったぜ。おお……やっぱりそこらの剣と違うな！」
"Understood. Oooo.... as expected, it's not different to sword around there." (Reus)　一応剣を振れるスペースがあるからいいけど、室内で振るのはどうかと思うんだ。持ち主であるおっさんが何も言わないなら別にいいけどさ。
It's ok to swing the sword since there is more or less a space, but somehow, please consider when swinging in the room.
「シリウス様、このナイフ凄いと思いませんか？」
"Sirius-sama, don't you think this knife is amazing?" (Emilia)　嬉しそうに剣を振っているレウスを他所に、エミリアは飾られていたナイフを持ってうっとりとしていた。
While Reus swings sword happily at another place, Emilia is excitedly holding and trying a decorated knife.
「お嬢ちゃん、そいつの良さがわかるのかい？」
"Onee-chan, do you understand how good is that?" (Reus)
「はい。とても鋭利そうで、肉なんか抵抗も無く切り裂いてしまいそうです。長さも丁度良いですし」
"Yes. It seems very shard and there's no resistance from meat and it is likely cut through it." (Emilia)
「そうかそうか、わかる奴には売ってやってもいいぜ。予算は？」
"Is that so, I may sell this to the guy who understands. What's your budget?"

　エミリアはこちらを一瞥したが、遠慮なくやりなさいと頷いておいた。
Emilia looks here, but please do not hesitate and so I nodded.

「あまり手持ちがなくて、銀貨五枚ほどしかありません」
"I don't have much on my hand, I have only about five silver coins." (Emilia)
「五枚か……厳しいな」
"Five?... So unsparing." (Dwarf)
　これ程のナイフなら金貨一枚でも安いくらいだと思う。姉弟にはポケットマネーとして金貨一枚分のお金は渡してあるのだが、エミリアはどれだけ値切るのか見物である。
I think if it's this knife, even one gold is not expensive. I have given them one gold coins to the siblings as their pocket money, so it's quite a scene to see how long Emilia will haggles.
「私はこちらのシリウス様にお仕えしているのですが、私が有事の際に少し頼りないのです。これを見てくださいませんか？」
"I am serving this Sirius-sama, but I'm a little bit unreliable in case of an emergency. Would you please look at this?" (Emilia)
「あん？　ふーむ……確かにこりゃ酷いな馬鹿野郎が」
"What? Hmm... certainly what a cruel idiot."
　見せたのはいつもエミリアが使っているナイフだ。そこらの店で売ってた安いナイフだから、本職に酷いと言われてもしょうがあるまい。
What was shown is the knife that Emilia always use. Because it's an inexpensive knife which was sold at store everywhere, what a professional way to say it, but I won't say anything.

「私はもっとご主人様のお役に立ちたいのです。それにはこのような素晴らしいナイフが欲しくて。ですが、ご主人様のお金を負担させるのは従者として忍びないんです」
"I'd like to be more useful to my master. And I want such wonderful knife. But, it's hard as a servant to make them bear the master's money." (Emilia)
「ぬぐっ！　お嬢ちゃんの意見もわかるが、こちらも商売だからな」
"I understand Ojou-chan's (young lady) opinion, but after all this is a place for business.
「お願いします、お爺ちゃん！」
"Please, ojii-chan!"
「お爺ちゃんっ！？　な、何だこの胸を満たす喜びは？」
"Ojii-chan!? Wha, what kind of this wonderful feeling in my chest?"

　あ……ライオルと全く同じ反応だ。
Aaa... same reaction with Lior.

「ライオル様もお爺ちゃんと呼んでいますので、その知り合いである貴方もお爺ちゃんかなと思いまして……駄目ですか？」
"It's because I call Lior-sama ojiichan, if there is his acquaintance, I wonder if I can treat you as ojiichan?" (Emilia)
　エミリアさん策士ですね。上目遣いで懇願とは、ライオルで学んだ甘え技術を存分に生かしていらっしゃる。
Emilia is a tactician, isn't she? You're using the sweetness art (or trick) learned by Lior, with the appeal of up-turned eyes.
「おおう……問題ないぞ！　好きに呼んでいいぞ！　そいつは無料(ただ)でやるぞ馬鹿野郎！」
"Ooouu...there's no problem! Call whatever you want! That one (knife) will be free of charge, idiot!" (Dwarf)
「いえ、無料(ただ)は流石に困るので、銀貨五枚でよろしいですか？」
"No, free of charge would be a problem indeed, so are five silver coins OK?" (Emilia)
「仕方ねえな、お嬢ちゃんがそう言うならそれでいいぜ」
"It can't be help, if ojou-chan (young lady) says so, that's fine." (Dwarf)
「ありがとう、お爺ちゃん！」
"Thank you, Ojii-chan!"
「馬鹿野郎！？　無料(ただ)で持っていけよぉ！」
"Idiot!? Take it for free!" (Reus?)

　面白い爺さんだ。
What an interesting old man.
　でもな爺さん、そのナイフの使用先は料理用ですよ？
But old man, that knife is used for cooking isn't?
見せたナイフは料理にしか使ってないやつだったし、真実を知ったら……いや、お爺ちゃんの一言で全て許しそうだ。
If the shown knife will be used only for cooking, and when this truth is known....No, with Ojii-chan's word, everything will be permitted.
　そしてライオルと似ている部分が多いから、二人は同属嫌悪ってやつなのかもしれないな。
And, since there are a lot of parts resemble to Lior, both of them might be similar sort of being hated guys.
　無料と言い張る爺さんにエミリアが強引に銀貨五枚を握らせていると、一通り振り終わったレウスが呼んでいた。
While Emilia is pushing the Ojii-san who insists that it was free of charge, to accept five silver coins, I called Reus who is through from shaking (his sister).

「おーい、おっちゃん。振り終わったよ」
"Oii, Oc-chan (old man). I'm done trying." (Reus)
「ああ？　馬鹿野郎が、どれが一番しっくりきたんだ？」

"The fifth and the sixth? It feels like both for one more step.
「ふーむ……馬鹿野郎にしては珍しい癖を持つようだな」
"Hmmm...it seems as to be an idiot, you have unusual habit." (Reus)
「俺は馬鹿野郎じゃないぜ。レウスって名前があるんだ」
"I'm not an idiot. My name is Reus." (Dwarf)
「馬鹿野郎が！　お前はやっぱりあのライ野郎の弟子なんだな。同じ武器を選ぶんだな！」
"Idiot! After all, you're a disciple for that bastard Lior. Because you choosed the same weapon!" (Dwarf)
「俺はレウスだ！　俺は兄貴の弟子だし、同じ武器ってどういう事だよ」
"My name is Reus! I am Aniki's disciple, in what way my weapon is same with him?" (Reus)
「馬鹿野郎が！」
"Idiot!" (Dwarf)
「レウスだ！」
"Reus!" (Reus)

　……偏屈と天然では話が進まない。
.... The talks is not moving on because their stubbornness is natural.
　あまりにも不毛なので介入し、話を纏める事にした。
Since it was too stagnant, I intervened and brought the negotiations to conclusion.
「……つまり色んな種類の武器を振らせたのは、その人に合った癖を見分けるためだと？」
"...In short, the purpose to swing various kinds of weapons is to distinguish the habits matched of a person?" (Sirius?)
「そう言うこった！　剣ってのは人によって相性があるんだよ。軽くて鋭いやら、重くて破壊力重視やら色々あるんだよ馬鹿野郎が」
"That is the explanation! There should be a compatibility between human and sword. Such things like being light, sharp, heavy and high destruction power, everything is here, what an idiot."
「兄貴は馬鹿じゃねえ！」
"Aniki is not a fool!" (Reus)
「あれはただの口癖だから黙ってなさい。それでレウスはどういう方向だと？」
"Because of that way of saying, be silent. By the way, in what direction is Reus?" (Sirius)
「重くて鋭い物だな。重心も手元よりで、あのライ野郎とほぼ似通った癖だ。全く、あいつがここまでやれと言ってくるとは、お前さんら余程気に入られたんだな」

　偏屈でどこかおかしい人だが、腕と目は確かだな。レウスは頻繁に剣が軽い軽いと愚痴っているし、ライオルのあの巨大な剣を作った実績もあるようだからこの人に任せて良さそうだ。

I take five gold coins from the chest and put in on the table. To be honest, I think this degree (of payment) is not enough at all, but since I am their companions, it seems better to show strong sincerity.

　エミリアも懐から金貨一枚を取り出して重ねた。ちょっとエミリアさん？　格好良く決めてるけど、金貨持ってるってばれたんじゃないの？

「という事は……作ってもらえるのですね？」
“The matter is... you’re going to make it right?” (Sirius)
「そうだ。久々に俺の実力を揮える相手の剣を打てるんだ。腕が鳴るぜ馬鹿野郎！」
“Absolutely. It’s been long time since my true strength can be used to make sword for its partner (the sword’s owner/user).” (Dwarf)
　室内でハンマーを振り回し、やる気満々で鼻息荒くする姿に不安は覚えるが、とにかくレウスの剣問題は解消だな。
A hammer is brandished in the interior, I feel anxious when looking at that fully motivated face with rough excited breathing, but anyway, there’s no more problem of sword for Reus.

「あと金はいつでもいい。出世払いで構わねえぞ」
“The money is good at anytime also. I don’t mind increase in payment, you know.” (Dwarf)
「ですが、生活とか材料費とかあるでしょう？」

「俺は貯金があるからいいが、生活費はお前さんらの方が大変だろうが。材料費なんか餓鬼が気にしてんじゃねえよ馬鹿野郎！」

「そうですか、何かあったら言ってください。一応俺達はそれなりに強いつもりなので、簡単な材料なら取ってこれますから」
“Is that so, if there is something, please say it. As soon as we to get stronger, it will be easy to get material.” (Sirius)
「任せときなおっちゃん！」
“Wait for that time, Oc-chan (old man)!” (Reus)
「あー……そういえば手紙にそう書いてあったな。これも何かの縁か。おい、そこのー……何だっけな？」
“Aa...speaking of that, it was written on the letter. It’s this a fate? Oii that...what is your name?” (Dwarf)
「シリウスです。そちらは？」
“I am Sirius. And you are?”
「俺はグラントだ。あのライ野郎がお前さんはとても頭が良いと書いてやがるからよう、相談があるんだよ」
“I am Grant (Guranto). That bastar Lior wrote that you’re very smart, that’s why we’re having consultation.” (Grant)

　顔を顰めて話し始めたので、俺はグラントの話に耳を傾けた。
Since I started talking with wry face, I listened to Grant’s talk.
　どうやら最近アイデアが浮かばないらしく、何か新しいインスピレーションが湧く刺激が欲しいそうだ。
It seems that there is no new idea recently, and it’s said that they want motivation for some new inspiration.

「適当な武器を作っても使いこなせる者もおらんし、作ってもすっきりしないんだよ。何か面白いアイデアねえかな？」
“Even if suitable weapon is made, and no one can master it, we won’t feel good about it. I wonder if there’s any interesting idea?” (Grant)
「ふむ……とりあえず俺の武器が変わっているので見てみますか？」
“Hmmm... my weapon is different, so would you like to see it?” (Sirius)　ディーから貰った異常に軽い剣と、フィアからもらったミスリルナイフを渡してみた。興味深そうに二本を眺め、特に興味を持ったのは剣の方だった。
I hand over the abnormally light sword I got from Dee and Mithril knife that I got from Fia.
「このナイフはミスリルで作られた以外、特に何かあるわけじゃねえな。だが、この剣は妙だ。この鉱石で作られた剣がここまで軽いとは思えん」

「こいつは『グラビトロン』という鉱石で作られていてな、本来この鉱石は頑丈でとにかく重い鉱石なんだ。こんな短い剣でも三十キロはあってもおかしくないんだが、こいつはまるで重さを感じねえ」
“This sword is made by ore called [Gravitron], it’s originally strong and heavy. If the weight is thirty kilograms, even such short sword is not unusual, but you can feel the whole weight of this sword.”(Sirius)
「となると、やはりこの剣に秘密が？」
“If it comes to secret, as expected coming from this sword.” (Grant)
「だろうな。この刃に刻まれた紋様か、又は柄の中に何か細工があるのかもしれねえ。そこら辺は俺の管轄外だからわからねえな馬鹿野郎が」
“I thought you say that. It maybe the pattern engraved on this blade or there might be something crafted inside the handle.” (Sirius)
「ありがとうございました。そこまでわかれば俺としては十分です」
“Thank you so much. If I can understand until that point, that’s good enough.” (Grant)　グラントには大した刺激にならなかったようだが、俺としては十分な刺激となった。この剣は予想以上に秘密がありそうだ。調べる価値はありそうだ。
It didn’t seem to be a great impetus for Grant, but as for me, I had enough. There seems to be a secret beyond expectation for this sword.
「それはそれで面白かったが、他に何かねえか馬鹿野郎」
“It’s interesting here and there, do you have anything else, idiot.”
「そうですね、ではこういうのはどうでしょうか？」
“That’s right, how about this one?”
　俺が話したのは刀の技術だ。
It’s a technology of a sword that I have spoken.
　刀ってのは一つの鉄で出来ているわけじゃない。
It’s a katana that is not made from iron.
芯鉄と呼ばれる柔らかい鉄が中心にあり、その外側に皮鉄と呼ばれる硬い鉄で覆われるのが刀だ。
Core iron and so called soft iron are in the center, and sheath iron and so called hard iron used as a cover on the outer part of katana.
そうする事により、柔らかい芯鉄が衝撃を吸収して折れず、硬い外側の皮鉄が曲がるのを防ぐ。そうやって折れず、曲がらず、切れるという立派な刀はあるわけだ。
By doing so, soft core iron absorbs an impact and it won’t break, while the strong exterior made by sheath iron will prevent it from getting bend.
残念ながら情報として知っているだけで作り方までは知らない。だけどアイデアとして色々役に立つんじゃないかと話してみたのだが……。
Unfortunately, I know that just as information and I don’t know how to make it myself. However, I talked about various idea which may be useful or not.
「馬鹿野郎っ！」
“Idiot!”　気に障ってしまったのだろうか、ハンマーを床に叩きつけて床板が砕けてしまっていた。
I wonder if I am hindering his spirit, a hammer is thrown on the floor and the floorboard breaks into pieces.

「芯鉄と皮鉄……とんでもないアイデアだ！　そんなの実現できたらとんでもない事になるぞ！」
“Core iron and sheath iron... an unexpected idea! If the implementation can be materialized, then it will be an outrageous thing!” (Grant)
　違った、この人感極まっただけだ。それにしても床板砕くってやり過ぎだろ。
He’s different (now), this guy is overcome by his emotion only.
「ですが作り方までは知りませんよ？」
“But, I’m not sure how to make it you know?” (Sirius)
「馬鹿野郎！　それを探すのが俺の仕事なんだよ！　おおお……燃えてきた！」
“Idiot! It’s my job to look for that! Ooo... I’m burningggg!” (Grant)
　再びハンマーを振り回し、正に有頂天であった。
A hammer is swing, he is indeed ecstatic.　ついでに他の問題もグラントを通せば解決するかもしれない。提案するだけしてみようか。
Incidentally, this (information) may solve other problems that Grant had.
「あの……レウスの剣も忘れずお願いしますね」
“Well... please don’t forget Reus’ sword.” (Sirius)
「わかっておるわい。どちらにしろ今は材料が無いからな。入手するまで時間がかかるからしばし待っておれ馬鹿野郎！」
“Understood. Since there is no material now, which one will you take? Since it takes time until I get it, wait for a short while, idiot!” (Grant)
「それと俺達ギルドに登録が出来ないので、魔物を倒した素材を買い取ってもらえないんです。よければ、グラントさんが使えそうな素材があったら買い取ってもらってもいいですか？」
“Then, since we are unable to register with a guild, they won’t buy the drop material from defeated demon.”
「ああん？　そりゃ構わないぜ。適当な物だったらいらねえが、最悪俺を通してギルドで売ってやらぁ」
“Haaa? Well, I don’t mind. If its suitable thing, I don’t need it, worst case scenario, you can sell it to the guild through me.” (Grant)
「ありがとうございます。ではその内……えーと、撃滅滅殺金剛鍛冶屋(げきめつめっさつこんごうかじや)に素材を持って来ます」
“Thank you very much. Well then, speaking of which... Err, the material will be brought by [Destruction Annihilation Indestructible Blacksmith].” (Sirius)
「馬鹿野郎！　家は撃滅抹殺金剛鍛冶屋(げきめつまっさつこんごうかじや)だ！」
“Idiot! It’s [Destruction Obliteration Indestructible Blacksmith]!” (Grant)   (TLN: The initial shop name is pronounced as GEKIMETSUMESSATSUKONGOUKAJIYA vs GEKIMETSUMASSATSUKONGOUKAJIYA as pronounced by Grant)
　滅殺と抹殺の一字違いであるが、激しくどうでもよかった。
It was one letter difference between MESSATSU and MASSATSU, but he emphasizes it intensely.
「ライ野郎もよ、俺の作ったあの極点覇王紅蓮剣(きょくてんはおうぐれんけん)をよ、面倒だから紅蓮と呼ぶんだぜ？　俺のセンスを理解しやがらねえんだ馬鹿野郎が！」
“That bastard Lior is the same too, my produce, that [Sword of Extreme Crimson Ruler], he called it Crimson since it’s troublesome to him.” (Grant)
　俺もライオルに一票である。
I would like to give one vote to Lior too.　エミリアも同じ意見なのか、顔を引きつらせて無理矢理笑みを作っていたのだった。
Emilia might also have same opinion, because she had to make a forced smile twitch her face.
「俺は極点覇王紅蓮剣(きょくてんはおうぐれんけん)も良いと思うぜ！」
“I think [Sword of Extreme Crimson Ruler] is a good name!” (Reus)
「わかってるじゃねえかレウ野郎！」
“Don’t you understand, Reu-brat!” (Grant)

　レウス……お前もか。
Reus... you too?
　先人から学ぶのは結構だが、ライオルの変態性といい、グラントのネーミングセンスといい、変な物まで吸収してる気がする。
It’s good to learn from a predecessor, Lior’s transformation and Grant’s naming sense, something good feeling being absorbed by those strange things.
　何度も言った気がするが、激しくこの子の将来が不安だ。
Although, I think I have said many times, but I’m really worried about this child’s future.
「シリウス様……あの子はしっかり教育していきましょう」
“Sirius-sama... let’s teach this kid properly.” (Emilia)
「そだね、二人で頑張っていこう」
“That’s right, let’s work hard with these two.” (Sirius)
　笑い合う二人の姿を見ながら、俺達はレウスを間違った方向へ進ませまいと固く誓うのであった。
While watching the forms of two laughing at each other, we pledge strongly that we won’t go towards that Reus’ wrong direction.

最初は幕間じゃなくて閑話としてたのですが、閑話って無駄話って意味なのでこれは違うと思い、急遽幕間に変更したのでした。
The beginning was just a quite conversation and not intermission, because of gossips and idle talk, it became big different, then I changed it to an intermession in a hurry.
