  1. One thing I really like about the way the author writes in Peak by Roland Smith is how he creates a clever hook in the beginning of the novel. Smith starts his novel Peak by giving us a little background information on Peak the character. After this he transitions into the hook of the novel by explaining what a hook is as the character Peak. “Once you have the reader hooked you can write whatever you want as you slowly reel them in” (Smith 1). This quote is Peak explaining what a hook is and why he is writing it in his story for a project he must complete for school. This project is basically Peak himself writing the novel. This is significant because it is a very smart way to get the reader to be more interested in the novel. This encouraged me to read more as I was “hooked” from the first page of the novel, and that’s is why I found the authors writing style to be valuable.
