  1. [18:34] Terra sat at the ledge of the bridge, between two of the guide posts, the rope hanging inches from her face. She pulled the magisphere out and held it in her arms, breathing deeply and focusing on it as her core. A dim blue glow comes from it, as she sits there quietly, her eyes closed. "I think some relaxation is in order."
  2.
  3. Listening to the small ripples and splashes of the river, and the breath of the wind, Brightwood imagined her energy like a water well. It filled slowly with time, with focus. There was only so much it could hold now, but she let it fill.
  4. (Terra Brightwood)
  5. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  6.
  7. [18:41] Sender exhaustively pushed against the vegetation in order to reach this river. His spiffy cloak gradually turned less spiffy from the wear-and-tear. The teen kept a grip on the spare staff, using it as sort of a short walking cane until he ushered his vassal to a nearby river.
  8.
  9. Tired, he rested himself beside the meditating lass and sought to do the same. Even if he believes learning is a far-cry for him, Sender himself believed that he could teach Terra.
  10.
  11. The under-lord produced a book from his inventory and flipped it to a relevant page, reading aloud for the Brightwood to hear.
  12.
  13. "Water magic relies on the fluidity of movement, but also the flexibility of a person's mind. Water...fills the shape of any container, and to master this discipline, one must learn to do the same.
  14.
  15. Remember, this is your precursor before learning how to control raw mana. So drink deep this fountain of knowledge, take your time, and in the meantime, I'll formulate a plan in order to wow that butler."
  16. (Sender Wolt)
  17. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  18.
  19. [18:50] At suggestion to the reading, Brightwood allowed the well to open, to spill into a vast puddle, which flooded and flooded, to be stopped at a small pool. "flexibility of a person's mind..." The water shifted a stream with no container, flowing by will, moving as if driven by motives it sought it's own. She tired to bundle it, shape it, be precise, then it bursts. A loud snap from the orb startles her.
  20.
  21. "My gods!" She muttered some curse words. "I must've pushed it too far." Sweat was on her forehead and her eyes dilated, pushing up her bangs and hair, her face was close to the under-lords, a defeated, but hopeful and enthusiastic smile on her face. Her freckles and soft blue eyes more noticeable up front.
  22.
  23. She started to yap about what she did or didn't do right, but it was mostly speculation and banter. Idly chatting as she read through the passages again.
  24. (Terra Brightwood)
  25. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  26.
  27. [18:58] Terra's sudden outburst started him as well; Sender jumped like a frightened cat. "That's fine. This means you've discovered a...threshold of sorts. Next time you'll know what to expect and when you should settle." He nodded.
  28.
  29. The under-lord took notice of that sheen of sweat above her brow, and for a moment his hand twitched as if wipe it for her. In that split second moment did he realize how dirty his hands were. How dirty he was. Very unprofessional.
  30.
  31. In short, he kept his hands to himself, but reciprocated a smile.
  32.
  33. Minutes passed as chatter filled the air, and he didn't even realize how late it had gotten.
  34.
  35. "...I think I got it," he said suddenly. "How I can leave a good impression on the fellow. It's not explicitly stated, but I've known that many magi temper their skills through practical application. In order words--sparring. With just a little bit more effort, we can improve your magical capabilities. Then, I'll show that butler the fruits of my labor: have you engage in a duel with him. How's that? Th...This is quite exciting. Perhaps then he'll see me worthy. M-Maybe I'll even be commended. Shall I be accepted into their House? Ah! This is...exhilarating to think about!"
  36. (Sender Wolt)
  37. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  38.
  39. [19:06] Brightwood stared at Wolt. Could she even cast a spell that strong at all? Sender had put time and energy into her magic, it was only fair to give it a shot. "Sounds great! I'll try my best my Lord."
  40.
  41. Terra was overjoyed at the results of the night. It was nothing to brag about, but it was something. She was going to be able to explore something amazing with Wolt's help. More meditations came and went, chatter, theory crafting, eventually the night got away from them and they just sat on the bridge. Terra was admittedly worn out. This was a new form of exercise, like a muscle never used. Her head throbbed. The topic of conversation wandered.
  42.
  43. "Do you have any family my Lord?"
  44.
  45. She was thinking of her family more and more herself. Not everyone was lucky enough to have a family. She understood that more than ever now.
  46. (Terra Brightwood)
  47. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  48.
  49. [19:11] The night, filled with mirth, and Sender had never felt such jubilation. Always so exhausted, but never so refreshingly. Their time together had taught him so much. New words, new theories.
  50.
  51. Finally. A chance at the life he dreamed of. Maybe it was small hope, but it was something. Sender would cling to that desperately. Like a man possessed.
  52.
  53. After their exhaustive seminar, the lordling stretched out against the bridge. Their pile of books had mysterious gotten bigger.
  54.
  55. "...Family?" his brows furrowed, as if trying to recall. "I assume I did. But my memory of them: none. I remember...many faces. Oh, so I was an orphan..." he started muttering. Terra would notice his eyes start to flutter close...
  56.
  57. ...Zznnsnzz.
  58. (Sender Wolt)
  59. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  62. [19:41] Terra giggled at Wolt passing out so easily. He was kind of cute when sleeping. Only kind of, he was still dirty and smelled like dog. He slept like a man given purpose. Stressed but thriving. She laid beside him, taking some of his cloak as a blanket. Wasn't the worst place she'd slept. This was actually kind of nice...
  63.
  64. She slept like a rock. Best sleep she got since she left the caravan. Her mouth left a gap, some drool coming out onto the fabric of Sender's cloak below her. She dreamed of the future. Of success. Hope never felt so familiar before. Not in a while at least.
  65. (Terra Brightwood)
  66. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  67.
  68. [19:48] "Sender time," he woke abruptly. "What." The lordling sat up suddenly, catching Terra unawares, possibly even knocking her over in the process. A grubby hand rubbed his still sleepy eyes before registering his surroundings.
  69.
  70. "F-Forgive me, Terralia. I didn't get much sleep last night, I was pouring over the tomes. But it was a good nap. I feel refreshed and ready to continue."
  71.
  72. He touched a nearby book before pausing. "What were we talking about again?"
  73. (Sender Wolt)
  74. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  75.
  76. [19:51] Terra groggily brought herself to wake. Not moved or startled by the movement, just annoyed at being awake. She slept well. Was a long time since she could say that. "Forgive you? For what? Sleeping?"
  77.
  78. She looked at the book he was touching. Letting a pause fill the air. "I'm not sure. I'm ready for whatever you wish to do today."
  79. (Terra Brightwood)
  80. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.
  82. [19:55] Sender started packing up, the books are collected and so was Terra. "I think...I think our next move should be accruing a presence among others. The more people we know, the better."
  83.
  84. He started to leave, but paused mid-walk cycle. Sender knelt in in front of the river and washed his hands and face.
  85.
  86. "Whew. Okay. Let's head back to town. I might know someone who can help."
  87. (Sender Wolt)
