some real tea re: smash twitter, as of late

so i'm at a loss here: had several girls grandstanding in my mentions about how "toxic" risu is. i guess they think targeting a woman gets them pick-me points or something, but when pressed for what it is she actually did (cause at this point it sounds like she pissed in their cereal or something), no response besides "can't you -see- how she treats people??? i can't believe you don't -see- it!" and when further pressed had nothing besides "she searched twitter for shitty things people said"

y'all gotta be like under 19 years old to think this is some kind of crime, and under 12 years old if you think a harassment video is a warranted response to it. searching your social media has been common practice for a decade, and before social media was a thing, this was just called a background check, and it's something you'll have to deal with when you start looking for internships. this concept extends to your interactions with strangers who have immediate access to the internet: if you put some shit out into the public, sometimes other people are going to want to see what you have offered of yourself, so that they see what they're dealing with and decide if it's worth it to keep dealing with you.

other complaints about her have been claiming she "starts shit" with people, or "talks shit" about your scene, which amounts to... the above, really. when you see the actual receipts, every claim against her "behaviour" is an exaggerated version of something fairly innocuous or expected of adults, or it sometimes turns out was information being requested of her instead of her going out of her way to provide it, etc etc. if your beef with someone is screenshots of shit you recently said in public, that isn't harassment. that's you crying that you got caught being a dumbass instead of going "that was a dumbass thing of me to say, let me delete that shit / i don't do that shit anymore". reconsider your entire damn self if that's how you do things

stop letting her live rent-free in your heads. get a grip and move on, just like every mature adult in this community who doesn't get along with her because of clashing personalities and different ideas on what battles to pick.

if your beef with someone is that she tried to get a few people banned from tournaments, or the fact that she enforced social consequences for you and your butt buddies when you got on some headass shit, congratulations, you apparently also hate the concept of the community code of conduct. before that came along we just had people like risu, kiwi, thin mint, and others who were willing to risk their social standing to hold people accountable for their actions. and several of those people who took this upon themselves don't even like each other, nor did they work in any sort of coalition, it was just a thing that people did who had a real vested interest in getting the rest of y'all to stop acting like monkeys in clown suits throwing their own shit around everywhere and calling it "ironic satire".

now here's the real shit: plenty of people are willing to believe literally anything about this woman. just one example: i've seen some chicks on here insist that she owned some kind of "harassment group" on facebook. i know exactly what group they're talking about - risu never owned it, in fact it was owned by someone who doesn't get along with her. double in fact, i was one of the first members and had a much longer tenure as admin than risu did. most of the posts in there were just venting about relatable shit, and in fact one of the girls calling it "risu's harassment group" was herself banned for transphobia. when she smugly demanded proof, i provided it, and was promptly blocked by her and her friend who had flown into a raging fury over... getting caught lying, i guess?

this insistence on believing any bad shit you hear about someone bc you've already decided you don't like them, spreading that around with no evidence, and doubling down when the evidence doesn't match your story, is known as "witch hunting".

except it seems like most smashers think "witch hunting" means criticising a man when he gets caught fuckin up LOL
