  15. - A single save file takes 63 kb of space.
  16. - You can pause the game on the field by pressing Start but this doesn't
  17. stop the play time counter from running.
  18. - Instead of leveling up the traditional way, your characters gain stat
  19. boosts and new abilities by moving on the Sphere Grid. The Sphere Grid
  20. has 6 routes meant for specific characters but you are free to take any
  21. route with any character. Most of the routes require about 100 levels to
  22. go through (80 for Rikku). You can gain infinite levels but the stock
  23. maxes at 99.
  24. - Weapons and armor in FFX don't have any numerical attributes that they
  25. typically possess. Instead, they can just have up to 4 Auto-Abilities.
  26. Later in the game, you can use Customize to install Auto-Abilities of
  27. your choice by using certain items.
  28. - The game features an element called Overkill that is triggered by
  29. killing an enemy with an attack that deals damage that exceeds a certain
  30. arbitrary figure. Overkilled enemies give more Exp (or AP as it's called
  31. this time) and drop twice as many items.
  32. - You can't multi-target spells, although some enemies can.
  33. - Enemies always drop items when killed, but these are just activation
  34. spheres. Mechanical enemies drop healing items, and, later in the game,
  35. you can get keys and locations spheres. All enemies can also drop weapons
  36. and armor in addition to items.
  37. - You can steal multiple times from the same enemy, with the odds of
  38. success being reduced with each successful attempt. The first attempt
  39. always succeeds.
  40. - The game has an affinity system but it doesn't really have much of
  41. an impact on anything (no items at stake).
  42. - Regarding version differences, the NTSC-U/C version and the original
  43. NTSC-J version don't have the Expert Sphere Grid or Dark Aeons, and the
  44. two bosses in the second optional dungeon have lower stats.
  45. - The game has no skip scene function. Accordingly, you'll want to
  46. think of something to do while you're waiting for the events to end.
  47. If you have subtitles on, you can press X to end many lines once the
  48. line is fully visible (at least during less important events) but I
  49. haven't taken this into account in the timing.
  50. × The mandatory events add up to about 8h 35m.
  51. - You may want to get the Japanese version of the game just because
  52. of the Japanese voice track (or you can watch some YouTube videos).
  53. Only the original version has it, though (ie. no ESG or Dark Aeons).
  54. - I would only recommend the PS3/PS4/PSV version if you want Trophies
  55. from the game. Aside from that, it feels more like a twisted joke due
  56. to the lack of a skip scene function.

  329. before you move on with the story, as you can't access the Trials again
  330. until at the end of the game. However, at the end of the game, two of
  331. the temples are blocked by optional super-bosses (in Besaid and Macalania).
  332. If you're playing a version that doesn't have the Dark Aeons, then you
  333. don't have to worry about it.
  334. - After using the GS to open the door, remove it and put it into the
  335. next recess you find to reveal the DS. Put it in the recess that holds
  336. the Besaid Sphere. Make sure you get the hidden item before you trigger
  337. the next scene.

  407. for gaining xp at the end of battle. This can be something as simple
  408. as defending or switching your weapon and it doesn't even have to be
  409. an actual switch; you can just choose the weapon that's currently
  410. equipped.

  412. Aeons. Also note that, although examining a save sphere will restore an
  413. Aeon's HP and MP, it can't revive them. If an Aeon dies, you'll have to
  414. fight a number of battles before they can fight again.

  1264. and one in the northern), you may notice a spectral Cactuar following you
  1265. around. At that point, you are to locate a small, ruined lightning tower
  1266. (on the right side) and hit Square by it. The mystery chest that is
  1267. revealed contains Kimahri's Ultimate Weapon. You'll need to come back
  1268. later if you want to open it.
  1269. - The Thunder Plains is home to the very simple and very annoying
  1270. mini-game that is lightning dodging. The lightning strikes at different
  1271. rates in different places. Rapid input (even if it's just two inputs)
  1272. will result in all inputs being ignored. It's possible to unintentionally
  1273. do two inputs with just one press due to contact issues. This could
  1274. very well be the cause of most of your failures, seeing as you really
  1275. don't have to be that fast.
  1276. - Your goal is to dodge at least 50 bolts. You can try getting 100 as
  1277. well, but if you fail after reaching 50, just move on. The place I
  1278. recommend for dodging is in that little area where you find the Water
  1279. Ball. You'll get about 6 bolts per minute there. Keep track of the time,
  1280. so you don't have to do it longer than you have to. Consider turning
  1281. the mini-map off and muting the TV. Keep your thumb relaxed to avoid
  1282. wearing out your joints.

  2496. no easier way to get it, I'm afraid. You'll need 48 for one Confuseproof.

  2498. × Great Malboro: These guys will always ambush you. Use the same
  2499. strategy as with regular Malboros (First Strike, switch, Provoke).
  2500. If Provoke misses, you're pretty fucked. I suggest you use a Special

  2502. use. That way, you can avoid a game over if you just gain control of
  2503. one of your characters.

  2505. × Demonolith: They'll counter with Pharaoh's Curse, which inflicts
  2506. Darkness, Poison and Curse (single). On their first turn, they'll
  2507. always use Breath, which inflicts Petrification on all characters.
