- - A single save file takes 63 kb of space.
- - You can pause the game on the field by pressing Start but this doesn't
- stop the play time counter from running.
- - Instead of leveling up the traditional way, your characters gain stat
- boosts and new abilities by moving on the Sphere Grid. The Sphere Grid
- has 6 routes meant for specific characters but you are free to take any
- route with any character. Most of the routes require about 100 levels to
- go through (80 for Rikku). You can gain infinite levels but the stock
- maxes at 99.
- - Weapons and armor in FFX don't have any numerical attributes that they
- typically possess. Instead, they can just have up to 4 Auto-Abilities.
- Later in the game, you can use Customize to install Auto-Abilities of
- your choice by using certain items.
- - The game features an element called Overkill that is triggered by
- killing an enemy with an attack that deals damage that exceeds a certain
- arbitrary figure. Overkilled enemies give more Exp (or AP as it's called
- this time) and drop twice as many items.
- - You can't multi-target spells, although some enemies can.
- - Enemies always drop items when killed, but these are just activation
- spheres. Mechanical enemies drop healing items, and, later in the game,
- you can get keys and locations spheres. All enemies can also drop weapons
- and armor in addition to items.
- - You can steal multiple times from the same enemy, with the odds of
- success being reduced with each successful attempt. The first attempt
- always succeeds.
- - The game has an affinity system but it doesn't really have much of
- an impact on anything (no items at stake).
- - Regarding version differences, the NTSC-U/C version and the original
- NTSC-J version don't have the Expert Sphere Grid or Dark Aeons, and the
- two bosses in the second optional dungeon have lower stats.
- - The game has no skip scene function. Accordingly, you'll want to
- think of something to do while you're waiting for the events to end.
- If you have subtitles on, you can press X to end many lines once the
- line is fully visible (at least during less important events) but I
- haven't taken this into account in the timing.
- × The mandatory events add up to about 8h 35m.
- - You may want to get the Japanese version of the game just because
- of the Japanese voice track (or you can watch some YouTube videos).
- Only the original version has it, though (ie. no ESG or Dark Aeons).
- - I would only recommend the PS3/PS4/PSV version if you want Trophies
- from the game. Aside from that, it feels more like a twisted joke due
- to the lack of a skip scene function.

- before you move on with the story, as you can't access the Trials again
- until at the end of the game. However, at the end of the game, two of
- the temples are blocked by optional super-bosses (in Besaid and Macalania).
- If you're playing a version that doesn't have the Dark Aeons, then you
- don't have to worry about it.
- - After using the GS to open the door, remove it and put it into the
- next recess you find to reveal the DS. Put it in the recess that holds
- the Besaid Sphere. Make sure you get the hidden item before you trigger
- the next scene.

- for gaining xp at the end of battle. This can be something as simple
- as defending or switching your weapon and it doesn't even have to be
- an actual switch; you can just choose the weapon that's currently

- Aeons. Also note that, although examining a save sphere will restore an
- Aeon's HP and MP, it can't revive them. If an Aeon dies, you'll have to

- around. At that point, you are to locate a small, ruined lightning tower
- (on the right side) and hit Square by it. The mystery chest that is
- revealed contains Kimahri's Ultimate Weapon. You'll need to come back
- later if you want to open it.
- - The Thunder Plains is home to the very simple and very annoying
- mini-game that is lightning dodging. The lightning strikes at different
- rates in different places. Rapid input (even if it's just two inputs)
- will result in all inputs being ignored. It's possible to unintentionally
- do two inputs with just one press due to contact issues. This could
- very well be the cause of most of your failures, seeing as you really
- don't have to be that fast.
- - Your goal is to dodge at least 50 bolts. You can try getting 100 as
- well, but if you fail after reaching 50, just move on. The place I
- recommend for dodging is in that little area where you find the Water
- Ball. You'll get about 6 bolts per minute there. Keep track of the time,
- so you don't have to do it longer than you have to. Consider turning
- the mini-map off and muting the TV. Keep your thumb relaxed to avoid
- wearing out your joints.
- - If you're intent on getting 200, do it on one of the Trophy-enabled
- re-releases.

- unlocked Jormungand, you'll have plenty of Petrify Grenades. You can
- steal Musk from the floating eyes (Flaoting Deaths give you 4). There's
- no easier way to get it, I'm afraid. You'll need 48 for one Confuseproof.
- × Great Malboro: These guys will always ambush you. Use the same
- strategy as with regular Malboros (First Strike, switch, Provoke).
- If Provoke misses, you're pretty fucked. I suggest you use a Special
- Sphere to teach Flee to one of your reserve characters that you don't
- use. That way, you can avoid a game over if you just gain control of
- one of your characters.
- × Demonolith: They'll counter with Pharaoh's Curse, which inflicts
- Darkness, Poison and Curse (single). On their first turn, they'll
- always use Breath, which inflicts Petrification on all characters.
- × Spirit: They'll counter with Poison Mist, which inflicts Confuse,
- If you don't have Confuseproof, you shouldn't try to catch them.
- They have 10 000 HP, so Celestial Weapons can take them out without
- being countered.
- × Mimic: There are 4 different kinds, but they all give you 0 AP and
- 50 000 gil.
- - Healing Water heals 9999 HP to all characters and is easy to obtain.
