Capital punishment is expected to deter criminals from committing some of the worst crimes like murder and rape, although it hasn’t been very successful in doing so. If anything, since the abolishment of the death penalty, bad crimes have been occurring less and less over the years, the majority of bad crimes committed in Australia in the 21st century are crimes like drug possession, assault, and fraud. The police and other law enforcement are now using various punishments on criminals who commit these illegal activities. With most cases now end in a life penalty in prison; or worse if the Criminal has committed murder or more.  I believe that soon the meaning of Capital punishment will change again and so will the influences on Criminals who wish to commit such unlawful activities. If for the better of Australia, we will have to see.
