- Network Location Awareness (NLA) and Network Connection Status Indicator (NCSI) are two terms i came to find out about after blocking
- telemetry microsoft servers through the HOSTS file.
- After each reboot for some time, the network icon was showing that i had no connection eventhough i did. After doing some research i came across the terms
- NLA and NCSI.
- If you are using the entries i provided to block microsoft telemetry servers from sending data from your pc to them, you pretty much have the same problem.
- all you have to do is go to :
- Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet
- and set "EnableActiveProbing" value to 0 and reboot.
- Interestingly, you will find some microsoft server entries in there, for testing your connection, dns testing and so on.
- So far i had no issues with this solution, if something comes up, i will update.
- Cheers.
