  2. >As you vacate the area you landed in twilight starts to gush.
  3. >"This is absolutely amazing Anonymous. How does this even, what does..."
  4. "The Grid is a computer to put it simply."
  5. >You're getting stares from other programs as you walk by them.
  6. >You don't give a fuck. You have to find Kril, and that's all that matters to you right now.
  7. >"A computer?"
  8. "A machine that is able to store information and run programs or executables. It can be used for anything from writing a document to playing a virtual game."
  9. >"That's... I don't even have words to describe how fascinating all this is. Anonymous, do you realize what you've done here?"
  10. "No. What have I done?"
  11. >You turn the corner of a street and get eyed suspiciously by a few programs gathered together under the canopy of a small shop.
  12. >You ignore them.
  13. >"You've brought a technological revolution to my world. Are you sure you want to be sharing all this information with me?"
  14. >You stop walking at that, and turn to Twilight with a smile.
  15. "Twilight, what use is information if we don't share it with each other?"
  16. >Where did that even come from? When Twilight asked the question that was the first answer that popped into your head. You bring a hand to your head and let out a sigh.
  17. >You don't know anymore.
  18. "Listen Twilight, think of it this way: If someone has an idea, or if someone has something that could better the world, wouldn't they share that with others?"
  19. >"Yes but..."
  20. "We have to go find Kril. How long was I out there before we entered the Grid?"
  21. >"About forty minutes, what's that got to do with what we're doing?"
  22. "Shit, that means..."
  23. >You turn away from Twilight and access your memory banks. The equations flash before your eyes within a millisecond.
  24. "It's been almost a month."
  25. >"What?"
  26. >You turn back to her.
  27. "It's been a month inside the Grid since I've been kicked. Time passes faster here because it's all made of electronic information. Every second out there is about seventeen minutes in here."
  28. >"I can fix that."
  29. "What?"
  30. >"I said I can fix that. If the information is stored electronically I can manipulate it whenever we're outside the Grid. I wouldn't be able to tell the programs apart or move information, but I should be able to build a spell that slows time in the Grid down."
  31. "Alright, that would be good. Just don't do it while we're in here. Last thing we need is to be moving in slow motion."
  32. >You pause and eye her for a second.
  33. >"What is it?"
  34. "You need an ID and a light suit."
  35. >"Is that the stuff you have on?"
  36. "Your identity disc is who you are. It contains everything that you know, that you've experienced in your life. The light suit is for protection, not every program needs one but if you're going to be hanging with me we need to remedy that."
  37. >"Where do we go?"
  38. "I know a guy."
  39. -------
  40. >The 'guy' you know is an illegal program called Gray. He's a merchant that trades unauthorized product for whatever the other program has to offer.
  41. >Even if the only thing the other program can give is their servitude.
  42. >He claims he's been around since the Master Control program, in that case he's thousands and thousands of cycles old.
  43. >And no one, not even CLU, has fucked with him.
  44. >No one.
  45. >His shop was a few blocks away from you, but you get there without incident.
  46. >When you walk inside the small building the black sheen of the walls lights up white, blinding you and Twilight.
  47. >"Well well well. If it isn't Kril's little errand boy. I thought you was a goner when the procs grabbed ya, but I guess we all have our uses, even viruses."
  48. >You bring a hand to your eyes as they adjust. You can barely make out a vaguely human shape standing behind a long counter.
  49. "That's kind of hypocritical coming from an illegal program."
  50. >The smug bastard starts to laugh. When he regains himself he continues, "The Grid needs me boy. You, I'm afraid, are expendable."
  51. "What makes you think the Grid needs you?"
  52. >"Please, even Flynn didn't want to get rid of me."
  53. "I think Flynn was more worried about other things. You're just a black market trader, after all."
  54. >"Very true."
  55. >Your vision starts to clear, and you can finally see him. The building is as it was outside, small. Nothing was inside but the counter and the old crazy looking bastard with a long ass beard behind it.
  56. >You approach the counter, Twilight hesitantly following you.
  57. >"Who's your friend, Anon?"
  58. "This is Twilight, she needs a light suit and an Identity Disk."
  59. >The old man looks contemplative for a moment, "Hmm, she ain't no program, but she isn't a User either. Where'd ya get this one?"
  60. "Long story, can you do it or not?"
  61. >"Alright already, sheesh. Consider yourself lucky that I owe you Anon. Alright horsey, hop up on the counter."
  62. >Twilight glares at him, "I'm a pony."
  63. >"Whatever you say Doll, just get up here so we can get this started."
  64. >Twilight let's out a huff before hopping up to the counter. The old man grins and rubs his hands together. "Alright, Doll. Here we go."
  65. >He reaches out to wrap his hands around her head, but doesn't touch her, just closes his eyes.
  66. >Twilight goes into a trance.
  67. >After a moment he pulls back with a grin.
  68. >"Yep, she ain't no User. She might be the one that helps ya outta this mess."
  69. >Twilight, now back in reality, looks at you, "What mess is he talking about?"
  70. "It's a long story, and one we don't have time for. Can you hurry it up Gray?"
  71. >"You can't rush art kiddo."
  72.

  74. >Twilight hops down. Gray closes his eyes, spreading his arms wide.
  75. >Data starts to stream from him. You can literally feel the information flowing through him from where you're standing.
  76. >Twilight watches in complete and utter fascination, her eyes wide in wonder and her mouth pursed.
  77. >Gray sets his hands on the counter, and an eruption of data spirals forth.
  78. >Little by little a light suit starts to form in a stream of data.
  79. >It starts building at the hooves, and continues from there, piecing itself together like building blocks.
  80. >It is fit for a pony like her. The black suit looks as flexible as any other light suit, only made for a different species.
  81. >Gray takes another deep breath, and in front of the light suit an empty Identity Disc materializes. He opens his eyes and hands it to her over the counter, "I've retrofitted it like an Arena disc, but I had to make a few tweeks so it could fit... whatever you are. Just grab it and it'll download all the information it needs."
  82. >Twilight reaches out hesitantly with one of her hooves, and Gray places the disc on it.
  83. >It flashes to life and Twilight's eyes go white.
  84. >Everything she ever was or has been is now being digitized.
  85. >When the disc is done she gasps, "That was... I've never felt anything like that before. I've practiced with mind probe spells at the magic school, but nothing like that."
  86. "How was it different?"
  87. >"It didn't really feel like an invasion." She frowns at the disc and it starts to float in front of her face, surrounded in a purple aura, "It feels like it's a part of me now."
  88. >Gray grins, "Good, don't lose it. Now, your light suit."
  89. >Twilight sets the disc on the ground and grabs the suit with her magic, pulling it apart at the joints and zippers. She slips into it, and when she has it on it activates.
  90. >The lines of blue light on her suit run up her hooves and across her back. Before coming here you had noticed she had a mark on her... well... her ass, and her suit had it too, only in the form of blue light.
  91. >Still using her magic, she floats the disc to her and places it on her back, clicking it into place. Then she grins up at you.
  92. >You can't help but think that she's cute when she's excited.
  93. >...
  94. >Where the fuck did that come from?
  95. -------
  96. >It doesn't take you long to find Kril.
  97. >the biggest power building in the city was easy to spot, as it was the tallest and the shiniest.
  98. >Even computer programs had their status to uphold.
  99. >Surprisingly, the guards let you into the building without a fight.
  100. >You don't expect to see Kril in the lobby, but there he is.
  101. >He looks at you and smiles, "Anonymous, it's been too long. I see you've made a new friend."
  102. "She says she can help."
  103. >"Have you figured out what's happening?"
  104. >You find yourself becoming angry, "Yeah, yeah I figured it out! I figured out that Sam Flynn and his girlfriend, the ISO, went missing! I think you knew about this."
  105. >"And how would I know such a thing when we cannot see outside the Grid?"
  106. "How would you know something was wrong in the first place?!"
  107. >Twilight steps forward, "Alright stop. I can tell you're both a little on edge but this isn't helping anything. Aren't we supposed to be working together here?"
  108. >You sigh.
  109. "Alright. Sam and Quorra went missing in Twilight's world, and I presume my main goal is to find them now?"
  110. >Kril nods, "You presume correctly."
  111. "Alright, we'll get right on that, and I'm not finished asking you questions yet."
  112. >"Very well, just focus on the task at hand and I will take no issue with that."
  113. "Keep your flunkies off my back and I won't have to derez you."
  114. >"They will no longer bother you."
  115. "Good, we'll head back and start searching."
