  1. >There are some definite perks of living in a castle with a princess
  2. >No rent to pay, the food is free, and there's usually some pretty decent entertainment in the afternoons
  3. >But you know what you could totally do without?
  4. >The casual racism
  5. >You are Anon
  6. >Princess Luna's pet hairless ape
  7. >Upon your release from the prison (and after explaining to Luna what a handshake was), you were informed of the terms of your release
  8. >You were a pet, property of the princess, and she was to be held responsible for any disruption you caused
  9. >In the front of your mind, you were okay with that
  10. >You didn't have any major plans to stir up trouble for no reason
  11. >And then dinnertime rolled around
  12. >You didn't really want to impose on a royal meal, but Luna insisted
  13. >You were introduced to her father, and her sister Celestia
  14. >The king seemed pleasant, Celestia significantly less so
  15. >Food began to be brought in, and you began to look for your seat
  16. >It seemed there were only three spots
  17. >You asked Luna where you'd be sitting
  18. >Cheerfully, she pointed over against a wall
  19. >'Over there!'
  20. >Your eye follows her hoof, and against the wall you see two bowls
  21. >One full of water
  22. >The other full of what looks like kibble
  23. >You laughed; You assumed it was a joke
  24. >You asked where you were really sitting
  25. >Luna and the king looked confused
  26. >Celestia, without looking up from her meal, said:
  27. >'Over there. We don't allow animals at the table.'
  28. >It took a few seconds for your brain to process this information
  29. >Humans=/= Animals
  30. >Horses=Animals
  31. >Except....
  32. >Horses=/=Animals?
  33. >Humans=Animals?
  34. >This doesn't make sense
  35. >But, the time you've spent thinking has started to worry Luna
  36. >'Uhhh, Anon?'
  37. >You snap out of your stupor
  38. Uhhh... yeah. Yeah! Sorry, zoned out for a second, foodbowl in the corner, gotcha.
  39. >You turn to your bowl and sit down against the wall
  40. >As you sit, the king turns to his meal and chuckles
  41. >'He thought he was allowed at the table. That's almost cute.'
  42. >Meanwhile, Luna looks a bit concerned
  43. >You'll pull her aside later
  44. >Just for a quick 'Hey, I'd totally appreciate not being treated like an animal' talk
  45. >You smile and give her a thumbs up
  46. >Concerns thusly allayed, she begins tearing into her meal
  47. >Yeah, that seems like a good idea....
  48. >It dawns on you that you haven't eaten in a while
  49. >But all you have is kibble
  50. >But you're hungry as FUCK
  51. >But it's KIBBLE
  52. >As much as you resent it, you pick up a piece and pop it into your mouth
  53. >It's salty, but sweet....
  54. >It tastes like.... muddy buddies?
  55. >Oh hell yeah
  56. >You tear into that bowl like....
  57. >Well, like you'd tromped through a forest, were arrested, and hadn't eaten in a day and a half
  58. >After the meal, you had a talk with Luna
  59. >After explaining your feelings, she apologised profusely, saying she didn't even realize what she was doing
  60. >Mentally, you called bullshit
  61. >Meanwhile, Celestia was being a bitch
  62. >But she acted that way all the time
  63. >Not completely surprising, seeing as she's a princess
  64. >The real thing you noticed is the fact that whenever Celestia acted like a bitch, ponies around her seemed surprised or shocked
  65. >You didn't know any better; She had always been a bitch to you
  66. >At first, you chalked it up to the racial superiority most alicorns seemed to have
  67. >But after a while of living with her, you saw that she treated most everyone with equal disdain
  68. >After a few days you asked her about it, and things started to click into place
  69. >It was about four days after your arrival, and Celestia was studying.....
  70.
  71. --------------------------------------------
  72. So, Celestia
  73. >She looks up from her book with slight disdain
  74. >'What do you want?'
  75. >She seems bitchy
  76. >But less bitchy than normal, so you go for it
  77. I was wondering why you insist on treating me like an animal
  78. >She looks annoyed
  79. >'Beee-cause you ARE an animal?'
  80. >Her tone suggests that you're missing something obvious, but you don't know what
  81. But I can think. I'm sentient
  82. >'Yeah, well a lot of things are sentient. That doesn't mean they're worth anything.'
  83. Come again?
  84. >She looks at you with slight amusement
  85. >'You mean to tell me you thought ponies were the only sentient species on Equestria?'
  86. Uh, kinda, yeah. They're the only ones I've seen
  87. >She shrugs dismissively
  88. >'Well, we're not. In fact, most things are sentient here. And it's kind of hard to be concerned about feelings when EVERYTHING has feelings.'
  89. >You kind of want to know what she means by that, and so you ask
  90. >'What's there to explain? The minotaurs know what the minotaurs need, the zebras know what the zebras need, the buffalo know what the buffalo need....'
  91. >'It's not our goddamn job to look out for them, they can look out for themselves.'
  92. >You see her point, it's a decent one
  93. >'And, if they have something we need, we take it. Because we can.'
  94. >Aaaand she lost you
  95. That seems like a pretty shitty international policy
  96. >'It's not just international policy, ape. It works like that in Equestria as well.'
  97. >Didn't see that coming
  98. How so?
  99. >She explains:
  100. >'The pegasus are stronger than the earth ponies, the unicorns are stronger than the pegasus, and the aliorns are stronger than the unicorns.'
  101. >'So, naturally, the hierarchy goes Alicorn>Unicorn>Pegasus>Earth pony.'
  102. >'If the lesser races don't like it, tough. What are THEY going to do about it?'
  103. >Suddenly your place in this world is a lot clearer
  104. >If other PONIES are second class citizens here, you're completely out of luck
  105. Don't you think you should help each other? Your society would probably be a lot better for it
  106. >She sneers
  107. >'You sound like my fucking dad. Getting the heads of the tribes together to spend time together and jacking each other off.'
  108. >'Just you wait, if they all join forces guess where they'll come first?'
  109. Tentatively, you ask:
  110. Where?
  111. >She slams her hoof on the ground
  112. >'HERE! To take over the kingdom! And then there goes the neighborhood!'
  113. >And with that your paranoid delusion alarm starts shrieking and you hastily excuse yourself from the room to find Luna
  114. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  115.
  116. *Meanwhile, in the present day....*
  117. >Being considered a pet meant it was assumed that you weren't intelligent enough to be tasked with anything around the castle
  118. >You tried insisting on being given something to do, to help alleviate your guilt and 'pull your own weight'
  119. >But, the help around the castle refused to trust you with anything
  120. >Luna's best guess was that if they trusted you with any job, they'd have to think of you less as a pet and more as a person
  121. >So, in this case, racism seems to have given you an easy life
  122. >You tried to let it not bother you
  123. >But it bothered you a lot
  124. >In your downtime, which was pretty much all the time, you tagged along with Luna as she studied magic
  125. >A lot of the stuff she was studying went right over your head, but she pulled a few simpler textbooks out and let you read through those
  126. >You briefly skimmed the books on creating and controlling magic; Not being a Unicorn or Alicorn meant they were slightly better than useless
  127. >The books you were interested, and over time immersed yourself, in were books on Equestria itself
  128. >History, Flora, Fauna, Geography, Politics....
  129. >The basic things about this world that made it tick
  130. >You also found the myths, legends and beliefs of the ancient ponies to be fascinating as well
  131. >You and Luna would often laugh and share stories of your planets religions
  132. >You would tell her about the invisible man that lived in the sky and judged you for your wrongdoings
  133. >She would tell you about a giant seapony that would eventually rise and flood the world
  134. >You would tell her about a man with one eye who's two ravens told him all the happenings of the world
  135. >She would tell you about two Alicorns, one gold and one silver, that dragged the sun and the moon across the sky each day and night
  136. >You were kind of taken aback when she told you how day and night actually happened
  137. >It seems Equestria is also in a heliocentric solar system
  138. >However, instead of gravity being responsible for its orbit and rotation, it's propelled by magic
  139. >Which doesn't surprise you; EVERYTHING is powered by magic here
  140. >You did feel kind of silly, but since magic was involved you had to ask if Alicorns really raised the sun and moon
  141. >Luna stared at you for a second, then started laughing
  142. >She explained that the sun and moon rose and fell on their own
  143. >I mean, that's silly, right?
  144. >Alicorns raising the sun and moon...
  145. >It just sounds ridiculous
  146. >In exchange for getting to learn about Equestria, you offered to teach Luna about Earth
  147. >You tried to skim over areas in history that made humans as a species look really bad
  148. >Like the Dark Ages, or the British Invasion
  149. >But that was fine with Luna; She was most interested in your Mp3 player
  150. >It seems music as it exists on Earth doesn't exist on Equestria
  151. >As such, you two talk a lot about how certain music makes you feel
  152. >It's actually kind of adorable; Everytime Luna finds a song that she really likes she listens to it until she memorizes the lyrics, then stops what she's doing and runs over to tell you about it
  153. >And since you know all the lyrics too, she usually expects you to sing with her
  154. >At first you refused, due to to your terrible singing voice, but then she got all pouty and you couldn't tell her no
  155. >Speaking of which....
  156. >you are currently engrossed in a book on the role of agriculture in Equestria's economy when Luna bursts into the room
  157. >'Anon! I found another one!'
  158. >You set your book down, and she's levitating your Mp3 player in front of her
  159. >And it looks like she's blushing a little
  160. >Not that that's really off; She tends to start blushing when you sing together
  161. >You pull the player out of her magical grasp and check the song
  162. >And you smile
  163. I really like this song, Luna
  164. >She squees happily
  165. >'So... Can we sing this one as a duet? I'd like to try that.'
  166. >It would be easy enough, and you know if you refuse she's going to pout
  167. Yeah, why not
  168. >You smile
  169. >Luna hops excitedly, and casts a simple spell
  170. >It picks up and broadcasts sounds the user is thinking, effectively turning Luna into a living karaoke machine
  171. >You take it this is why she memorizes the songs she likes; It's like she's storing them to her hard drive
  172. >The music starts playing, and you and Luna start rocking out
  173. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wH5e5tOHNY&feature=endscreen&NR=1
  174. >You're still kind of embarrassed about this whole 'singing in front of other people' thing
  175. >But you have to admit it's really fun
  176. >Especially since you started getting really into it and playing air instruments
  177. >Luna, not knowing what instruments made what sounds, would usually just dance
  178. >Which was fine with you; You got all the sweet air-guitar solos
  179. >Strangely enough, it's actually kind of made you more confident around the castle
  180. >Once you're caught singing and dancing with a pony princess, it's kind of hard to give any fucks about what other ponies think of you
  181. >You grab an invisible microphone off of an invisible stand
  182. Burning here, in my room, feeling that the walls are moving closer....
  183. >As you sing, you try and, for lack of a less cheesy term, channel the song through you
  184. >By doing so, you can focus on the music and lyrics, and try and grab the emotions that someone who's never heard the song before would get
  185. >Listening to music with Luna is exhilarating; It's like listening to it for the first time again
  186. Silent scene, the dark takes me.....
  187. Leads me to, the ending of another day...
  188. I'm haunted....
  189. >You make a sweeping gesture to Luna, giving her the spotlight
  190. >Luna, being Luna, cranks her volume to 11 and starts belting out the lyrics
  191. >'Tell me who you are, I am spellbound'
  192. >'You cannot have this control on me'
  193. >As she sings, you pin down the emotion the song is making you feel
  194. >It's love
  195. >But not true love; More like a love that cannot be
  196. >Or should not be
  197. >'Everywhere I go, I am spellbound'
  198. >You realize, in your thoughts, that zoned out slightly, so you refocus your eyes back on Luna
  199. >She's staring right back at you
  200. >Not intensely, but in a soft, loving way
  201. >'I will break this spell you've put on me...'
  202. >Wait, in a loving way?
  203. >She finishes her verse, and averts her gaze slightly, blushing
  204. >Not knowing what to do, you play dumb and continue to sing
  205. Velvet drapes, glowing candles...
  206. Silent whispers of words inside of my head...
  207. >Luna starts sidling up next to you
  208. >Okay, so THIS IS HAPPENNING
  209. >It seems that a talking horse has developed a crush on you
  210. >And, being the same oblivious fucktard you were back on Earth, you're only noticing NOW
  211. The night that comes, it waits for me...
  212. >No, not just a talking horse
  213. >This is Luna
  214. >Your best friend on this world
  215. >And, to be honest, a better friend to you than many of your friends on Earth
  216. Lifts me to, the ending of another day...
  217. I'm haunted....
  218. >Luna picks up her singing, allowing you to focus on your thoughts
  219. >You don't want to break her heart
  220. >But you probably wouldn't end up working out anyway
  221. >You start compiling a mental list of reasons why you two being together would be a bad thing
  222. >You list quite a few good reasons before you have to focus on singing again
  223. >And even then you're still mostly absorbed in your thoughts
  224. >You tell yourself, your mind is made up
  225. >You're going to politely reject her, and try to stay friends
  226. >You tense up, mentally preparing to do something you really don't want to
  227. >But why don't you want to?
  228. >To spare Luna's feelings?
  229. >Or something else?
  230. >The song ends, and Luna shuffles up to you
  231. >'So, Anon.... There's a reason I wanted to sing that with you...'
  232. >You decide to continue to play dumb, just in case
  233. Oh?
  234. >She's blushing so hard
  235. >'Yeah... I wanted to tell you something....'
  236. >Oh boy here it comes
  237. >You don't know if you're prepared for this
  238. >'Well, I... kind of really like you.... And I wanted to know if you felt the same way....'
  239. >She averts her gaze, and the tinge of marinara fills the air
  240. Well, yeah....
  241. >She perks up, and you think your heart is going to tear from the adorableness
  242. ...but....
  243. >And, just as quickly, her ears flatten and her eyes go wide as she braces for bad news
  244. >And, you should tell her that it wouldn't work out, you're too different, she should move on....
  245. >But you've got nothing
  246. >If you're going to stop this, you can to do it right now
  247. >But do you want to?
  248. >She looks tentatively at you
  249. >Could you be in a relationship with a horse?
  250. >Do you think you could LOVE a horse?
  251. >But, she's not just a horse
  252. >It's Luna we're talking about here
  253. >If she was human, you wouldn't even be debating this; You wouldn't be able to say yes fast enough
  254. >And, in a world where YOU'RE the animal, this is probably really awkward for her too
  255. >Especially given how bigoted her family is
  256. >Deep down, you know what you want
  257. >....
  258. Fuck it
  259. >You grab Luna and pull her in for a kiss
  260. >She's shocked at first, but then relaxes and starts kissing you back
  261. >She tastes like grape soda
  262. >In the back of your mind, your thoughts are still racing
  263. >Do you think you could be in a relationship with a horse?
  264. >Truthfully, you don't know
  265. >But as you share the kiss, which isn't as weird as you imagined, you decide that you're at least willing to try
  266. >For her
  267.
  268.
  269.
  270. >Unbeknownst to the two of you, a pair of dispassionate magenta eyes was unobtrusively watching this whole exchange
  271. >By the time either of you would have noticed her presence, she was long gone
