  joohee would continue to subconciously stare at him, but it wasn't because of her suspicions anymore; rather, she found herself studying his features which she suddenly found strangely captivating. his smile, his jawline, his warm gaze—she had a good idea what this all meant, and she couldn't deny it. she was crushing, hard. but she was unsure what he would think of it, so even if sometimes there was a small light of hope in her that thought maybe he felt the same judging by his actions and words, she didn't do anything to confirm it, and just chose to keep thinking of them as 'close friends' (and perhaps this was true, but even so, the only way to truly describe them would undoubtedly be 'friends with blurry lines').

  joohee had seen him several times before during her potions classes and in the halls, but never this closely; just taking a glance at his bright smile and warm aura, she finally understood why everyone took a liking to him, hence her inner thoughts spilling out (although thankfully, she didn't say it out loud). but as soon as it did, she mentally scolded herself for swooning like a main character in a korean drama. she noticed that his voice was very full of positive energy, and all in all he seemed like quite a bright person—out of curiosity to get to know him more, she made sure to keep an extra eye on him whenever she could after that.

his first impression:

  he immediately recognized her as the girl who sat in front of him in potions, and who also shared several of the same classes with him. even though they had never spoken alone, she still had a friendly smile on her lips, making her seem easy to talk to. as he briefly interacted with her for a bit before leaving, he thought that he should try to speak with her more often in the future.

  ↳ when joohee is alone in the astronomy tower secretly studying the constellations, he walks in on her since he forgot his notes in there. they ask each other why the other is there, and after a brief moment of giving explanations, he asks if he can see her notes that she just took, and also take a look through the telescope. she says that she agrees, but only if he doesn't say a word to any of the professors. a silent deal is made, and he marvels at how good of a job she's done in taking notes
  ↳ he walks in on joohee (again), but this time she's asleep and curled up next to her notes and telescope. he's afraid that if he leaves her there, she'll get caught in the morning, so he picks her up gently and carries her all the way to the hufflepuff common room, being careful not to get caught by patrolling professors or accidentally wake her up. when he arrives in front of the entrance to the common room, he asks nearby paintings for help regarding the password since he doesn't know it himself (and he'd rather not be doused in vinegar should he fail at a wild guess). after desperately convincing them that he was only going to put her down and then come right back out, he finally managed to obtain the way to get in, setting her down on a couch and pulling a blanket over her before quietly leaving
  ↳ (after the aforementioned situation continues on for several nights) he's in the midst of carrying joohee back to her common room when she slightly stirs from her slumber. in her drowsy, still-half-asleep state, she glances up at him to try and see who it is; but since it's dark, she can't see his face, and the only thing that she can see is that the person who's carrying her is wearing a quidditch robe with the red and gold shades of gryffindor, before falling back asleep

  ↳ at first joohee thought that potions class would be a breeze. just add the instructed portion of ingredients, mix it up, and then done, right? wrong. she didn't even think that there could possibly be a wrong direction to stir, or a simple incorrect motion of her hand. no matter what, she just couldn't seem to get it right; either the color or texture was different than what it should have been, or things ended up in a black cloud of smoke blowing up into her face. regardless, after seeing the annoyingly neat handwritten 'd' on her grade paper, she had no choice but to turn to one of the best students in class (who also happened to sit behind her)

how their tutor helps them:
  ↳ he helps her by using extra free time that they both have to study in the library, borrowing a cauldron and a textbook (plus taking some leftover ingredients from potions class), telling her how much to put and guiding her hand so that she does the motions as accurately as possible. if something goes wrong, they talk it out and try to find the errors before trying again until she succeeds
