  1. Maertock would rise with a sense of ambient moroseness from his seat at the table, the mourning captain of the Deep Company frankly somewhat lost in the depths of depression with his older brother's death. The two of them had been inseparable, brothers of destruction that carved a path of terror in their wake.
  2.
  3. Two had become one. Once, they'd jokingly said every year they'd fight to the death to see who would be Captain Reave once and for all. Every year, the date came and passed, but their bond had never been shaken.
  4.
  5. Now, that day would haunt Maertock. The shadow reality that could have been. The arrival of Varceal ushered the reaver to his feet slowly, a soft click of his serrated teeth as he flicked his icy blue eyes between Syan'eth, Yana, and the arrivals.
  6.
  7. "Catching me in a coherent state where I'm willing to hear out particulars is a dangerous game as an alcoholic. Doubly so in mourning; but my ears are open. Don't bully If."
  8.
  9. Then, the Captain's eyes fell to Varceal, who he'd approach and place a webbed palm upon the shoulder.
  10.
  11. "Murtock considered you a blood brother; your hunts were some of the best times of his life to hear him say it. Had he been immortal, he would have reaved by your side until your scales grew pale as the snow of the Tarian, Varceal."
  12.
  13. Slowly, steadily, a seemingly....pulsating source of heat and flame that ushered with intensity was dredged from Maertock's cloak. A sphere of pure heat and energy, swiveling even in his hands as he spoke.
  14.
  15. "This was the treasure he seized in the Shadow Games; his last great heist. Let it always symbolize the bond and friendship you had as warriors with him."
  16. (Maertock Reave)
  17. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  18.
  19. {Item} You drop Heart Of The Flame.
  20. The dragon would grab onto the enflamed heart - his eyes starting to water, was this tears again? - this was something he would only show while tono was around - all these years being battle harden did not prepare him to lose someone.. two brothers in over three years...
  21.
  22. "I understand his death was still in battle.. so atleast the bastard kept true to his promise to me..."
  23.
  24. He said gritting his teeth - none of this wasn't easy and although he spent some time preparing himself for some losses he did not expect murtock to be one of them.. He was in his eyes... Immortal.
  25.
  26. Flame spits from the sparks from the drakes tears as they hit the sand... this all seemed so cruel.. unfair..
  27.
  28. and osrona has lost nothing as they continued to suffer. "This wasn't even part of the war.. luna was just some heartbroken ookami…. and even though she is dead I feel like it is still not enough..."
  29.
  30. He would hunch over hiding his face as tears continued to fall from his face for the first time in a long time.. "You were still immortal to me you stubborn fucking bastard..."
  31.
  32. He thought of him as a older brother even though they were basically the same age but because murtock had height on him - he was always able to feel the brush of the old sharks hand on his head - or even a headbutt would have been something he gotten from him.
  33.
  34. "Oh fuck.. it's raining again... fuck.." None of this was right.. but now that luna was gone there wasn't rage.. he was just depressed. "... Ugh.. do me a favor just make sure no body hears about this..."
  35.
  36. He would say as his claws grips the collar of his cloth shirt and wiped his face....
  37.
  38. "He fucking beat me to it you know? - we promised we would see each other at the end of this , but we also said that more than likely we would die during this war.. but this? this was unprecedented.."
  39.
  40. Another flow oftears the last flow of tears before the drake would look up with a smile on his face - but there was sorrow in his eyes... "Well then.. I'll kill them for the both us then.." he chuckled.
  41.
  42. His smile quivering... from the hole now in his heart... "That is my promise to him."
  43.
  44.
  45. (Varceal Vartuul)
  46. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  47.
  48. Maertock would nod steadily as he took a long, shut eyed dreg from his bottle of Valmasian Brandy. His eyes appeared cold, haunted, empty of his usual carefree cheer. No serrated smile lay on his visage; and the black fog of shadows that cloaked around his sinewed shoulders appeared even less hospitable than it once was. His brother's death had rippled through the whole continent; him most of all.
  49.
  50. "It was a battle; he died nothing less than a warrior after taking countless wounds that would have ended another man's career. That he stood tall even then until his last breathe; the very things keep him alive destroyed as his own willpower kept what remained of his heart beating. Even then, he died on his own terms."
  51.
  52. The captain would nod slowly, looking up towards the clear sky. The sun beginning to hide behind dark clouds as the scent of a dreary, cold season was ushered forth. Winter had come to Siren Beach.
  53.
  54. "I feel the same Varceal. There's something...empty about it. Like killing her once wasn't enough. Or like it was a mercy to her madness. Like putting down a wounded animal. There's no savor in that; just the eight and a half foot void Murtock has left behind in our lives."
  55.
  56. The captain would take a slow, soft drag from his minty cigar; smoke rising slowly into the horizon from his dry, reddened gills.
  57.
  58. But they weren't dry, were they? Salty trails slowly fell from the stony visage of the captain. Shadows covering his eyes as they trailed down past his neck.
  59.
  60. "When did it start raining....yes; live for him.....reave for him, Varceal. He would have had it no other way than this; going before you and holding a seat when we arrived at the eternal battle."
  61.
  62. The captain would nod slowly as he continued to drink.
  63.
  64. "It's sad."
  65. (Maertock Reave)
  66. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  67.
  68. The dragons brows would furrow as he thought.. about all that has happened - the battle for the bridge was lost.. they gained gajin back - that was good but they were taking too many losses..
  69.
  70. He would grit his teeth again.. "Reave... yes.. reave." he said panting underneath his breath... but then lannis would speak..
  71.
  72. A soft smile would creep upon the drakes face as he looks up to the boy. "You have my appreciation lannis - stoping them from stepping on his resting ground.." He said
  73.
  74. He would take up a drink and start to chug it...
  75.
  76. Soon he would drop the bottle onto the sand and regain his composure - tears turning into steam as he vaporized the liquid from his face almost naturally.
  77.
  78. "Don't worry Maertock - … I won't let any of you fall aslong as I am around I just wish I was there for him.. but I was healing off my injuries of war at the time....- but .. I will be around here a lot more.. just ot make sure.. I protect you guys like I do my own.. you have seen me do this before.."
  79.
  80. And he did - he saved murtock when he needed... he even helped someone else who was about to get attack...
  81.
  82. "... I promise to you.. and the deep company I will help defend when you need it... I want you to enjoy this year of peace - you no longer have to help me in this war the fireblooded can handle this on their own."
  83. (Varceal Vartuul
  84.
  85. Maertock would nod as he sat upon the solemn, ivory sands; his inky, black shadow clinging to his sinewed shoulders without any of its life. It was just dark and cold; just about all the Captain had left to feel.
