  1. The three of us walk down a proper leading to Lezard. Well, Sarah and I ware walking, Ami is skipping around me in a little cloak I fashioned for her out of spare materials.
  2. "So Sarah was sick with some sort of ailment when you first met her?" The fox girl asks me without slowing down. I grab her by the tails and make her stop moving around constantly before answering, "Yeah, to sum up my story in a simple way and omitting out numerous details."
  3. Ami tries to struggle out of my grip, but is unable to do so, "But how did it make her so weak?" I narrow my eyes and let her go, "Were you even paying attention to half of what I said?"
  4. "I drifted in an out."
  5. "Ugh."
  6. We continue walking as I try to explain everything I said a little bit ago once again. I use small and simple words to explain how Sarah was at one point suffering from a rare sickness that only affects Dragons, can't be cured by normal means, weakens them greatly, and slowly and painfully kills them over the period of a year.
  7. I also explain our long trek to find a cure, finding nothing, and having to go through the hellish continent to the north on the one we're on to find an almost extinct miracle herb that might cure her.
  8. "Oh, now I get it." Ami speaks out before putting on a face of amazement, "But wow! You guys went to the Northern continent?! Amazing! It's supposed to be an untamed and full of danger and adventure!" I look at her face with a thousand yard stare, "You're right about the danger, but wrong about the adventure."
  9. I'd rather be gutted with a rusty and dull knife than go back there.
  10. Ami scratches her fluffy ear while giving me a confused look, "Just what happened?"
  11. "You don't want to know, trust me." Sarah speaks up with a mouth full of jerky while patting Ami on the shoulder.
  12.
  13. After a few more hours of walking and talking, we reach the front gate of Lezard. Two guards sit at each side of the entrance, but they don't bother us as we walk through. Thankfully.
  14. As expected, this town is alive. Countless people are walking around on the streets, as well as children playing and running around. There are numerous shops and forges littered around town, as well as shady merchants. "I'll set up shop somewhere and see you two later at the inn! Bye" Ami yells out while running in a random direction and waving.
  15. "So what now?" Sarah says as she turns her head towards me. I look down at my attire, "Let's check out the local armor shop. I'm sure these rags I'm wearing won't stay together forever." I'm surprised they've lasted over tens years of wear and tear. The two of us make our way to the nearest armor shop, which is run by a young woman with red hair, braids, and freckles.
  16. "Howdy!" She greets us with a smile as we walk through the front door and begin checking her wares. There's a diverse selection of armor and gear. It ranges from simple linen armor, to a practical set of leather armor with metal plates for added defense, to an overly fancy suit of armor covered with a golden trim and flamboyant feathers on the helmet. The clerk walks up to me and beams a smile at my face, "Anything catch yer fancy?"
  17. I cup my chin with my hand, "Not really. You have anything that's lightweight and provides excellent mobility and defense?" She places a hand on her hip, "Sure do! Our Elite Knight armor fits that to a T! It's made from the best materials around, and it's available for the low price of 23,500 gold coins!"
  18. ...23,500?! I could buy a few houses with that much! Who the hell would pay that much for armor?! I grab my coin purse and toss it to the girl, "How much can I get for this?" She catches it in mid air and begins counting the amount inside, "Not much. I suppose I can sell you something in the back for this amount. Hold on." The clerk heads into a back room after pocketing my money. She better not be running off with it. After about half an hour of waiting, the girl comes back and places a set of armor on the counter next to me.
  19. It appears to be an fairly dark colored armor made of linen, leather, and a few metal plates. "This is something I was going to throw out later. It was made by my grandfather before he went insane, smeared himself in wine and butter, and then running off into the woods naked. It very lightweight, sturdy, and I'll give it to you for the bag of money."
  20. "Weren't you going to throw it out?" Sarah speaks up while doodling on a helmet with her claw. "I was, but now I can get money for it." I glare at her before throwing my arms in the air, "Fine!"
  21.
  22. The two of us exit the store, with me wearing m new armor. It's actually comfortable, and provides better defense than those dirty and moss covered rags...
  23. As we're walking, we come across a weapon merchant trying to peddle his wares to everyone walking by. "Today I've got a special treat! REAL weapons from the Orient! The Katana, for example!" He pulls out a curved sword and shows if off to the masses, "It's made of glorious foreign steel, folded 1000 times! That gives it an unparalleled edge!"
  24. They stare at it like it's the best thing since roasted duck. To me, it looks like it'd break after a few swings. We get out of there around the time he begins trying to sell off his surplus of halberds.
  25. After wandering around town, and stealing a few bits of food, we head to the inn and meet up with Ami. We find her a little beyond the entrance, sitting on a bench and kicking her feet. She get up and hops over to us, "What took you guys?" I flick her ear with my middle finger, "We wandered about. Did you make any good sales?"
  26. "I made plenty!" She brandishes a large bag of coins with a smug grin, "I would have made more if Sarah didn't eat some of my more valuable items..."
  27. Sarah pats the Kitsune on the head in a caring manner, "That'll do kid, that'll do."
  28. The fox shoves Sarah's clawed hand away from her in a flustered manner, "So where will we beheading after this?"
  29. "We'll be here for a few days to gather info on the northern part of this continent, before heading up there." I answer the girl while patting her head myself, "I'd like to get up to date with events happening, as well as the best way to get there." I would prefer not having to go through the desert that makes up over 2/3rds of this continent, but I'd hate to go by ship because I'm scared to death of deep water.
  30. Ami sways her head back and forth while raising her right arm, "Can we visit a few ruins before we go?" I follow her movements with my eyes before responding, "I'll think about it while I sleep."
  31. "But, it's barely dark. Why are you going to bed?"
  32. "Because I have an odd sleeping habit. Not to mention I don't want to be out in public for prolonged periods of time."
  33. "Why?"
  34. "You'll understand when the time comes." I pat the girl's head while turning my head towards Sarah, "You feel like heading to bed as well?" She nods her head left to right, "I'm good."
  35. I leave the two of them and get myself a room. Hopefully they won't cause trouble, or reveal that they're monsters to the town.
