- "corona" itself is a subset of a virus, because it has spikes

- it’s a relatively new sort of virus, therefore hard to develop a vaccine

- SARS or MERS were also coronaviruses

- zootomic which means animal to animal, animal to person (some p t p.)



epidemics caused by human interaction with our planet

- new species we discover often carry new diseases

- so by interfering with the planet we are exposing ourselves to them

- bats being one of those extremely volatile animals



quarantine and travel restriction

- quarantine has less effect than you'd hope due to the virus showing symptoms so late in the development, around 24 days after you get infected.

- restricting travel usually isn't fast enough due to the economy needing travel

- as humans we need to see people, we are social creatures



ways to make outbreaks less serious

- building a global health 'system' to support the health of all counties would do much good in these situations. If countries who don't have the resources to take care of an epidemic it can lead to huge consequences. During Ebola countries didn't have the resources to fully support their people.



effects of just-in-time-ordering

- we do not have reserves of health equipment, which is fine when things are normal but during an epidemic is terrible. Running out of masks or other forms of safety equipment is scary during an epidemic.
