  1. We shouldn't have trusted her. We never should have trusted her.
  2.
  3. The light raining down on the settlement has no source. The spectre hunting us down is impervious to harm. There's nothing I can do to stop her. Nothing any of us can do to stop her. All we can do is dodge, and hide, and pray for it to stop.
  4.
  5. The settlement is in ruins once more. I don't know the status of anybody but Green. He's hurt badly, his armor's cracked and chipped, his shield is pockmarked with dents. We've taken shelter in the Teleporter Room. The power's out, none of them are working, we're boxed in. There's no telling how much longer we have before a beam punches through the ceiling. I... I think I just heard Autumn scream. Dammit, I hate being this helpless, everybody I love is under attack and all I can do is cower in the corner...! If you're going to pull a deus ex machina, Celia, now would be the time- BOOM!
  6.
  7. Half the room's gone, she's found us, gotta move. But where? Where do we go? Where can we go? Can we make it to the mines before she hits us-
  8.
  9. "Celeste, we gotta go!" Green snaps me out of it. Only choice is to run.
  10.
  11. "Aim for the mines!" I reply, and we take off running.
  12.
  13. The phantom is on top of us instantly. Up the hill- BOOM! There is no hill, just keep running, we're halfway to the mine- BOOM! The mineshaft entrance is gone, no way in, now where do we-
  14.
  15. -Hit. I'm hit? How? When did he... Straight through chest. Lung, I think, hard to breathe. I look at the hole - it's big. I think the lung's gone. Where did he-
  16.
  17. -On the ground, must've blacked out. I look up, Green's standing over me. He leans down and offers me a hand. There's a hole through his chest too. I take his hand, he helps me to my feet. The destruction's stopped... I don't see the spectre anywhere. My entire body feels like lead, my legs are threatening to give out on me, my vision's swimming... I lean against him. He helps me over to the side of the tower, or what's left of it.
  18.
  19. Claymore built this tower back when this all began, before I had even arrived. When the Destroyer attacked, still the tower stood. When the aliens razed the settlement to the ground, still the tower stood. Yet a single beam from Gaia, and the tower was no more. Who made it out of the settlement? Did anyone make it out? I... I can only hope we were her primary targets, instead of the entire population. At least that way, there's a chance that some of them survived.
  20.
  21. I'm sorry, Celia. You were counting on us to keep the settlement safe, but in the end, we couldn't do anything to stop her.
  22.
  23. I press my back against the wall, slide down to the ground. My eyelids are heavy. "I'm just gonna... just gonna sit down for a hot minute, alright? Wake me up in the morning."
  24.
  25. He sits down next to me. "Actually... A nap sounds like a great idea. Mind if I join you?"
  26.
  27. He puts his arm around my shoulder, pulls me closer to him. I rest my head against his shoulder. It's strange - we're in the aftermath of a cataclysm, yet I feel at peace.
  28.
  29. I let my eyes close, and the darkness welcomes me with open arms.
