  1. THE EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPHS ON THE EAST WALL:
  2. [1] FOR HIS HIGHNESS, THE PRINCE,
  3. from this wretched place in this land,
  4. where we were carried by ship.
  5. Engraved for the Crown of Lower Egypt,
  6. according to God’s word.
  7. [2] My fellow Egyptians
  8. call out from this place in this strange land
  9. for the god SUTI.
  10. I, NEFER-DJESEB,
  11. Son of KHUFU, king of Upper and Lower Egypt
  12. (beloved by Ptah),
  13. has brought the god SUTI.
  14. [3] The Prince was kind and benevolent,
  15. follower of the SunGod Ra.
  16. [4] For two seasons (eight months) he directed us eastward,
  17. weary, but strong to the end.
  18. Always praying, joyful, and smiting insects.
  19. He, the servant of God,
  20. said God created the insects
  21. to protect his people.
  22. [5] I myself am hardened, have gone around hills and deserts,
  23. in wind and rain, with no lakes at hand,
  24. blessed by the falling nights, when I hide myself,
  25. completely out of reach.
  26. [6] In our last camp I cooked fowl on hand, and brought rain,
  27. but hurt my back carrying the Golden Falcon Standard,
  28. crossing hills, desert and pools of water along the way.
  29. [7] Plants are withering, Land is dying.
  30. Is this our lot from the highest God of the Sacred Mer?
  31. [8] The Sun is pouring down upon our back!
  32. Oh mighty Khepera, this is not what the Oracle has said.
  33. Our Harts are overturned, but not broken.
  34. [9] This Regal person NEFER-TI-RU
  35. came from the temple of God in Penu, Egypt.
  36. He came from the House of God.
  37. He was the Son of KHUFU, king of Upper and Lower Egypt.
  38. [10] He, who died before, is here laid to rest.
  39. May he have life everlasting.
  40. [11] He is never again to stand beside the waters of the Sacred Mer.
  41. Then clasp him, my Brothers Spirit to thy side, O Father of the Earth.
  42. THE EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPHS ON THE WEST WALL:
  43. [12] The snake bit twice.
  44. We, followers of the divine king KHUFU,
  45. mighty one of Lower Egypt, Lord of the Two Adzes,
  46. we shall not all return.
  47. However, we have to continue; we
  48. cannot look back.
  49. [13] All creek and river beds are dry,
  50. and we are dismayed.
  51. Our boats are tied up with rope.
  52. Death was caused by snake.
  53. [14] We gave egg-yolk from the medicine-chest,
  54. and prayed to Amun, the Hidden One,
  55. for he was struck twice.
  56. [15] It was a hard time for all of us,
  57. weeping over the dead body,
  58. and keeping to the protocol.
  59. [16] Seated all aside,
  60. our men watched the funeral,
  61. with concern and deep love.
  62. How the mummified body was buried
  63. in the Red Earth Section.
  64. [17] Then we recovered ourselves.
  65. [18] We walled in the side entrance to the chamber,
  66. with stones from all around.
  67. The chamber was aligned with the Western Heavens.
  68. [19] I counted and impounded the daggers of our men.
  69. [20] The three doors of eternity were connected
  70. to the rear end of the Royal Tomb,
  71. and sealed in.
