  1. A safejump is a well-timed jumping attack that will connect (it will hit or be blocked) on a knocked-down opponent the instant they wakeup IF they do not do an invincible action. However, if they do, you will have time to block it.
  2.
  3. For Leona:
  4. F+LK (knocks down) -> immediately hop, then C (or any jumping normal)
  5. is a safejump.
  6.
  7. For Ryo:
  8. Forward throw (into the corner) -> immediately backdash -> immediately superjump, then D (or any jumping normal)
  9. is a safejump.
  10.
  11. Safejumps can theoretically come from any knockdown that gives you sufficient time to jump from the right place and timing, but usually they come from a character's hard knockdowns. Notice that for some safejumps (like the Ryo example) you can use things like backdashes or whiffed normals to setup the perfect timing.
  12.
  13. Another important aspect of safejumps in KOF is that they do not work on all reversals.
  14.
  15. 1) You CANNOT safejump invincible reversals that start in 1 or 2 frames. (King's neomax, Andy's neomax, Kyo's EX super when timed, Ash's Germinal super inside Sans-Culotte)
  16.
  17. 2) You CAN safejump reversals that start in 3 frames or more. The Leona example above works.
  18.
  19. 3) Some safejump setups only work on reversals that start in 4 frames or more, and other setups only work on reversals that start in 5 frames or more. Ryo's example does not safejump 3f reversals, but does safejump 4f or slower reversals.
  20.
  21. To practice safejumping:
  22.
  23. 1) Go to training mode. Pick King as your character. For the dummy, select the character with the safejump you wish to practice.
  24.
  25. 2) Record the dummy doing a knockdown, then whichever safejump setup you are practicing. Make sure to hold down-back after you've done your jumping attack.
  26.
  27. 3) Play the dummy recording back. Get knocked down by the dummy then attempt King's reversals. Utilize the button hold trick to ensure you are waking up with the attack as soon as possible.
  28.
  29. EX Trap Shot starts in 5 frames.
  30. Surprise Rose starts in 4 frames.
  31. EX Surprise Rose starts in 3 frames.
  32.
  33. Assuming your inputs for the dummy were correct, Leona would be able to block all 3 of these reversals. Ryo would be hit by the EX surprise rose. If you do not reversal, notice that the jumping attack connects.
  34.
  35. If you get different results, then you did not record the dummy correctly and need more practice. Keep at it.
