I'd rather handle a poorly understood spider that's trapped in the same cycle of reckless hedonism and feeling like shit because he doesn't know any different. I'd want to help him break that cycle, and improve his life, because he's my friend.

And if a relationship comes of that, then that's just a bonus. I think Angel would be a better friend than lay.

I think you're right, but only because he's presumably been doing his current gig for a long time. After a while, that sort of work tends to affect your head, and your sensibilities. Hence why he doesn't have a partner.

If you have a lot of casual sex, at least for me as a person who has to know and understand someone before I trust them enough to do it, it just feels like, 'going through the motions' with no emotional weight behind it, you're just fucking until you're done and finished. It's a two-way street with not only the actions but the intent behind it, which can easily be faked and you can pick up on when someone isn't genuine in what they're feeling either towards you, or the act itself.

But, because of his job, he can't emotionally invest into someone because it would just feel like work, the 'Angel Dust' persona, the hyper sexualised, know-it-all cocksure prick who thinks he's the best person in the world is all an act, and beneath it all he's probably deeply troubled by stuff we haven't seen. He's just a cute spooder who needs protection from his boss and platonic cuddles and a rock solid friendship.

Well, I mean, he was a prohibition era gangster, so he was probably involved with some terrible things.

Or at least, through his family connections, benefited from the suffering of tons of other people.
But I doubt Viv would risk portraying her characters who're in Hell, as truly bad people

Thats kind of the motivation for why someone is bad, its exceptionally rare that someone just decides to become involved in the italian mafia and be perfectly comfortable with killing/maiming people
Too many times people give a free pass to anti social personality types claiming that it was just their bad upbringing or circumstances that made them blow that guys head off with a shotgun
Its throwing a pity party and making up excuses for objectively bad people that do bad things not because they want to be bad or evil, but because they dont care that its bad or evil to do

I had a conversation with a friend about this tonight actually.

One of the benefits of ending up a demon is you reinvent yourself when you manifest. You pick a different name, you look different, you might sound nothing like you did when you were alive.

And... you can invent a different persona. So how do we know that people like Alastor and Angel aren't just lying about who they were when they were alive? For all we know, Alastor may never have murdered anyone, or Angel was never in with the mob. It was different sins entirely that got them condemned.

What im saying is that what they did and why are not separable
If you take the time to analyze criminal psychology, it becomes immediately clear that the vast majority of violent repeat offense criminals happen to be sociopaths or psychopaths, persons that nearly or completely lack any form of empathy, impulse control, remorse, pity and fear
There is a very real chance that Angel Dust is a high functioning sociopath that only experiences brief "flashes" of empathy but overall it is difficult for him to feel long term empathy or form meaningful bonds with others

I believe that most Non-German units were treated pretty much the same as every other German unit.

I do know that African American units weren't treated particularly well.

But I'm not really an expert so I might be wrong
