  1. This is a conversation between Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx and yourself, Descartes.
  2. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: Hello.
  3. Descartes: Hello.
  4. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: Do you have a coin?
  5. Descartes: I have to say now that I think about it, I'm not so sure that coins exist.
  6. Descartes: For I know of coins only through my senses, and I know that, in the past, my senses have deceived me.
  7. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: ...do you have a type of currency?
  8. Descartes: I'm not so sure anyone does!
  9. Descartes: How could one know such things if their belief is grounded in something so unreliable as the senses?
  10. Descartes: It seems if we're going to deal in such things we need to find firmer ground for our beliefs to rest upon
  11. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: Sir/Madame, I will let you rot on this side of the Styx if you don't shut up and give me a damn drachma
  12. Descartes: Do you agree?
  13. Descartes: I'm afraid I don't believe in the Styx...
  14. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: Well then who the fuck am I?
  15. Descartes: Perhaps you are an evil deceiver, feeding me experiences of things that aren't really there.
  16. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: ...
  17. Descartes: Reveal yourself, demon.
  18. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: *Sigh.* I'm not a demon. I'm Charon, Gatekeeper of the realms of the dead.
  19. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: I choose the Styx because it's the easiest to adapt to.
  20. Descartes: Well "Charon, Gatekeeper of the realms of the dead," I'm afraid we're in the same predicament as before. It seems we need firmer ground than the senses alone for our knowledge to rest upon.
  21. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: ...
  22. Descartes: As I've listened to your blathering I've been considering one option
  23. Descartes: Throwing away all those beliefs which I am capable of doubting, I find myself left with only a single one standing.
  24. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: *Rubs his temples.* Ok, ok, I'm just gonna let you rot with the other souls.
  25. Descartes: That I am, I exist.
  26. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: Bye.
  27. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx: *Jumps in his boat, and pushes it off shore, using his oar to get across.
  28. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx has left the conversation.
