  10. -----------
  11. >anon was kidnapped at age 20
  12. >he was carefully selected, almost groomed for the role: while he socialized, he had no real friends (potential ones being diverted away from him through careful manipulation), and he was raised to be accepting of the quirks and curiosities of others
  13. >by age 20, he had developed the basic skill set of a servant, but that was about it - he didn't have any future plans, nor knew where he should be headed
  14. >he did know he liked birds, but that was about it
  15. >he was dragged away the night his rent ran out - he had one, last falling out with his family, which basically ensured no future funding for his sorry ass
  16. >waking up in a room not to dissimilar from his childhood one - if a bit more lavish and updated to his more mature tastes -, he got a good idea where he was when he looked out through the building
  17.
  18. >conversations with Stolas and his wife were cordial, but distant
  19. >he was to become their daughter's servant - for life
  20. >his reward? A chance to go to Heaven, should he be diligent in his task
  21.
  22. >their first meeting was a bit... Awkward.
  23. >the young owlette just stood still as he was introduced, almost frozen in place
  24. >he looked several centuries, perhaps, a whole millennia her senior, but, as she was told, he had only lived for two decades
  25. >when her parents left the two alone, the silence persisted
  26. >finally, plucking up courage, she walked - tippi-toed - right up to anon, offering him her wing
  27. >"R-Right! Come! I'll show you around my room!"
  28. >giving her his hand, anon followed in her steps, bending forward so she could still grasp him - she was just so adorably precious
  29. >she didn't look older than 10, though, he was told that she was already "just" a couple of centuries old
  30. >he followed her along, as she introduced him to the various play areas in her large, multi-level bedroom - almost like something out of a fairy tale
  31. >almost
  32.
  33. >anon sighed - this was his purpose
  34. >what he was made for
  35. >might as well enjoy it
  36. -
  37. >Your Master looks down at you, tears welling in their eyes
  38. >You don't have much time left, and you both know it
  39. >They take your hand in theirs, the clawed appendage dwarfing yours in size
  40.
  41. >They're so big now, towering over you
  42. >You can remember when you'd first been brought to Hell, so many decades ago, to be their pet
  43. >They were scarcely any bigger than an average human back then
  44. >You'd been so afraid, freshly stolen from your life on Earth, dragged screaming into the inferno, brought before a greater demon
  45.
  46. >It seems so silly now
  47. >They'd been kinder to you than you could have ever imagined
  48. >The life of servitude to them you'd lived had been nothing less than a joy
  49. >Even now, as you lie on your death bead, they're still fussing over you, trying to make you comfortable, choking back pleas to stay with them just a little longer
  50. >You try to thank them for all they've done, but putting your love for Your Master into words is task beyond mortal language
  51. >You could speak for hours and still not quite get it right, and now you hardly have any time left at all
  52. >So instead, you meet their gaze, smile at them, and hope that you can convey all the warmth and gratitude you feel merely with a look
  53. >You feel Your Master's lips grace your forehead one last time, sigh contentedly, and slip away
  54. -
  55. >At first, it's not so bad, being dead
  56. >The darkness is a bit jarring, as is the feeling of weightlessness
  57. >Jarring, but not unpleasant
  58. >Then you feel your soul lifting up, out of your body, and drifting skyward
  59. >Further and further upwards, away from Hell
  60. >Away from Your Master
  61.
  62. >You begin to struggle, to try to find purchase and drag yourself back down, but there's nothing to grab on to
  63. >Only the empty darkness
  64. >Fear begins to creep over you as you drift further and further from Hell, lost in the void
  65. >Then you see the light at the end of the tunnel
  66. >The cold, harsh, blinding light
  67. >It hurts to look at
  68. >You cry out, begging anyone who might be listening to save you, but no such mercy is to be found
  69. >You don't want to go into the light, but it draws you in against your will
  70. -
  71. >You hate Heaven
  72. >It's so cold here
  73. >Your fellow angels are so sterile, so mechanical in thought and action
  74. >Is this really supposed to be a reward for a life well-lived?
  75. >You feel as though you're being punished
  76. >You were quite happy right where you were
  77. >You would have been content to stay there forever
  78. >Instead you've been uprooted once again, but this time you've been deposited amidst metal and sleek machinery, without a trace of emotion or empathy to be found
  79. >You want out
  80. -
  81. >You want a way out, but finding it is exceedingly difficult
  82. >It seems they were all just so darn proud of this chilly monument to bleak uniformity and efficiency that they never considered building an exit
  83. >"Leave Heaven?"
  84. >"Why?"
  85. >Because you've been robbed of all sense of purpose and direction
  86. >Because you've lost your closest confidants, your oldest friends
  87. >That's why
  88.
  89. >Luckily, you know a surefire means of escape
  90. >The Exterminator Legions
  91. >In spite of all their talk of holiness, Heaven seems to have a real bloodlust when it comes to their only rival
  92. >Your Master had always done their best to shield you from the horrors of the cleanses, but you knew about them all the same, it was impossible not to
  93. >And now here you were, on the other end of things
  94. >The Legions were positively eager to welcome you into their ranks
  95. >Their need for new recruits was seemingly boundless, and their standards very lax
  96. >Take up the spear, put on the mask
  97. >No questions asked
  98. >No scrutiny whatsoever
  99. >After all, what sort of angel wouldn't want to butcher demons en masse?
  100. -
  101. >It all feels rather odd, coming back to Hell as an angel
  102. >You weren't famous, or anything like that, but you were something of a curiosity
  103. >A live, mortal human, in Hell, at the feet of a greater demon, wasn't something a typical helldweller saw every day
  104. >At the very least, you might get a double take, at most, you might make a formal introduction, or be introduced by Your Master, make some small conversation, tell jokes or stories, and just politely let the sinners and native demons revel in the novelty of your own existence
  105.
  106. >Now though, you're an object of terror
  107. >Demons scream at the sight of you, fleeing as fast as their feet will carry them
  108. >You feel sorry for them, but you can't take the time to stop and explain to every sinner you see that you're not like the other Exterminators, that you're not here to hurt them
  109. >Right now, your top priority is to get rid of the other warrior angels who came down here with you, as fast as possible
  110. -
  111. >You erase your commander first
  112. >As good a place to start as any other
  113. >You rather disliked him anyway
  114. >He was too noisy
  115. >Always, ALWAYS running his mouth about "holiness" and "purity" and "taint" and "attack patterns" and "kill counts" and other miserable drudgery
  116. >On top of that, he'd decided to kick off the cleanse by cornering an impette and her child, ready to slay them both
  117. >That really irked you. You have a soft spot for imps.
  118. >Many of the other attendants to Your Master that you'd spent your career with were imps. They'd been the first ones to extend a proper welcome to you after you'd been pulled down, to help you adjust to your new life, to make you understand your new purpose
  119.
  120. >You weren't going to let him get away with hurting one of them
  121.
  122. >You call out his name, and as he turns to you face you, put your spear right through his mask, between the eyes, and cleanly out the back of his head
  123.
  124. >As his empty body slumps to the ground, you turn on the rest of your unit
  125. >They're too shocked to mount any coordinated resistance as you cut them down
  126. >Insubordination among The Exterminators is unheard of, let alone open treachery
  127. >Their minds are simply incapable of comprehending what you're doing until your blades are already buried deep in their hearts
  128. -
  129. >You leave your spear planted in the body of your final victim
  130. >You don't need it anymore, and you don't want it
  131. >It's a horrible thing, a tool crafted with specific intent that it be used to do away with demons
  132. >What an awful device. It would be better if they didn't exist at all.
  133.
  134. >You help the impette to her feet and shoo her off down the road
  135. >You can remember a very good shelter in this part of The Pentagram
  136. >Very large, very sturdy. She and her impling will be safe there
  137. >You, however, have to keep moving
  138. >You came down here with a purpose, and you won't rest until it's been fulfilled
  139. ---
  140. “... and those that tasted the bite of his spear named him... the Doom Savior.”
  141. ---
  142. >Anon goes from a demon's servant to a exterminator-slaying badass.
  143. ---
  144. >Despite how much time has passed, you have no trouble finding your way to Your Master's estate
  145. >They'd kept you on a short leash at first, denying you access to the outside, but as you proved yourself a trustworthy pet, they'd granted you more and more leeway and allowed you to range further and further
  146. >By the time your mortal body had expired, you knew the best route from every part of The Pentagram
  147. >Now that you have wings, it's even easier to make your way home
  148. >It hardly takes you any time at all before you're touching down in front of the gates
  149.
  150. >Elation wells up in you like a newly tapped spring at the sight of the gate keeper
  151. >And, further up the knoll behind them, Your Master
  152. >They don't seem to share your excitement
  153. >In fact, they seem confused, frightened even, especially as you call out to them by name
  154.
  155. >Oh
  156. >Of course
  157. >You still have your mask on
  158. >How silly of you
  159.
  160. >You pry the heavy bundle of electronics from your face and throw it to the ground
  161. >The gatekeeper's stance slackens from nervous and guarded to absolutely stunned
  162. >You hear Your Master gasp
  163. -
  164. >Your Master breaks into a run, shouting at the gate keeper to let you in
  165. >You match their pace and rush to meet them as soon as your way is no longer barred
  166. >You collide with the demon in the middle of the garden
  167. >They scoop you off your feet and clutch you so tightly you'd fear they might break you if you weren't already on the far side of mortality
  168. >The sound of their joyous laughter fills your ears
  169.
  170. >You tuck your wings in against your back and sigh contentedly
  171. >In spite of all the hurdles and hardships you'd had to face, you got a happy ending after all
  172. >Your comrades are all dead, by your hand
  173. >Heaven is closed to you forever now
  174. >This inferno of sin will be your abode for eternity
  175. >You're in the arms of a greater demon, holding you close to their unholy heart
  176. >Everything is going to be okay
  177.
