- >anon was kidnapped at age 20
- >he was carefully selected, almost groomed for the role: while he socialized, he had no real friends (potential ones being diverted away from him through careful manipulation), and he was raised to be accepting of the quirks and curiosities of others
- >by age 20, he had developed the basic skill set of a servant, but that was about it - he didn't have any future plans, nor knew where he should be headed
- >he did know he liked birds, but that was about it
- >he was dragged away the night his rent ran out - he had one, last falling out with his family, which basically ensured no future funding for his sorry ass
- >waking up in a room not to dissimilar from his childhood one - if a bit more lavish and updated to his more mature tastes -, he got a good idea where he was when he looked out through the building
- >conversations with Stolas and his wife were cordial, but distant
- >he was to become their daughter's servant - for life
- >his reward? A chance to go to Heaven, should he be diligent in his task
- >their first meeting was a bit... Awkward.
- >the young owlette just stood still as he was introduced, almost frozen in place
- >he looked several centuries, perhaps, a whole millennia her senior, but, as she was told, he had only lived for two decades
- >when her parents left the two alone, the silence persisted
- >finally, plucking up courage, she walked - tippi-toed - right up to anon, offering him her wing
- >"R-Right! Come! I'll show you around my room!"
- >giving her his hand, anon followed in her steps, bending forward so she could still grasp him - she was just so adorably precious
- >she didn't look older than 10, though, he was told that she was already "just" a couple of centuries old
- >he followed her along, as she introduced him to the various play areas in her large, multi-level bedroom - almost like something out of a fairy tale
- >almost
- >anon sighed - this was his purpose
- >what he was made for
- >might as well enjoy it
- -
- >Your Master looks down at you, tears welling in their eyes
- >You don't have much time left, and you both know it
- >They take your hand in theirs, the clawed appendage dwarfing yours in size
- >They're so big now, towering over you
- >You can remember when you'd first been brought to Hell, so many decades ago, to be their pet
- >They were scarcely any bigger than an average human back then
- >You'd been so afraid, freshly stolen from your life on Earth, dragged screaming into the inferno, brought before a greater demon
- >It seems so silly now
- >They'd been kinder to you than you could have ever imagined
- >The life of servitude to them you'd lived had been nothing less than a joy
- >Even now, as you lie on your death bead, they're still fussing over you, trying to make you comfortable, choking back pleas to stay with them just a little longer
- >You try to thank them for all they've done, but putting your love for Your Master into words is task beyond mortal language
- >You could speak for hours and still not quite get it right, and now you hardly have any time left at all
- >So instead, you meet their gaze, smile at them, and hope that you can convey all the warmth and gratitude you feel merely with a look
- >You feel Your Master's lips grace your forehead one last time, sigh contentedly, and slip away
- -
- >At first, it's not so bad, being dead
- >The darkness is a bit jarring, as is the feeling of weightlessness
- >Jarring, but not unpleasant
- >Then you feel your soul lifting up, out of your body, and drifting skyward
- >Further and further upwards, away from Hell
- >Away from Your Master
- >You begin to struggle, to try to find purchase and drag yourself back down, but there's nothing to grab on to
- >Only the empty darkness
- >Fear begins to creep over you as you drift further and further from Hell, lost in the void
- >Then you see the light at the end of the tunnel
- >The cold, harsh, blinding light
- >It hurts to look at
- >You cry out, begging anyone who might be listening to save you, but no such mercy is to be found
- >You don't want to go into the light, but it draws you in against your will
- -
- >You hate Heaven
- >It's so cold here
- >Your fellow angels are so sterile, so mechanical in thought and action
- >Is this really supposed to be a reward for a life well-lived?
- >You feel as though you're being punished
- >You were quite happy right where you were
- >You would have been content to stay there forever
- >Instead you've been uprooted once again, but this time you've been deposited amidst metal and sleek machinery, without a trace of emotion or empathy to be found
- >You want out
- -
- >You want a way out, but finding it is exceedingly difficult
- >It seems they were all just so darn proud of this chilly monument to bleak uniformity and efficiency that they never considered building an exit
- >"Leave Heaven?"
- >"Why?"
- >Because you've been robbed of all sense of purpose and direction
- >Because you've lost your closest confidants, your oldest friends
- >That's why
- >Luckily, you know a surefire means of escape
- >The Exterminator Legions
- >In spite of all their talk of holiness, Heaven seems to have a real bloodlust when it comes to their only rival
- >Your Master had always done their best to shield you from the horrors of the cleanses, but you knew about them all the same, it was impossible not to
- >And now here you were, on the other end of things
- >The Legions were positively eager to welcome you into their ranks
- >Their need for new recruits was seemingly boundless, and their standards very lax
- >Take up the spear, put on the mask
- >No questions asked
- >No scrutiny whatsoever
- >After all, what sort of angel wouldn't want to butcher demons en masse?
- -
- >It all feels rather odd, coming back to Hell as an angel
- >You weren't famous, or anything like that, but you were something of a curiosity
- >A live, mortal human, in Hell, at the feet of a greater demon, wasn't something a typical helldweller saw every day
- >At the very least, you might get a double take, at most, you might make a formal introduction, or be introduced by Your Master, make some small conversation, tell jokes or stories, and just politely let the sinners and native demons revel in the novelty of your own existence
- >Now though, you're an object of terror
- >Demons scream at the sight of you, fleeing as fast as their feet will carry them
- >You feel sorry for them, but you can't take the time to stop and explain to every sinner you see that you're not like the other Exterminators, that you're not here to hurt them
- >Right now, your top priority is to get rid of the other warrior angels who came down here with you, as fast as possible
- -
- >You erase your commander first
- >As good a place to start as any other
- >You rather disliked him anyway
- >He was too noisy
- >Always, ALWAYS running his mouth about "holiness" and "purity" and "taint" and "attack patterns" and "kill counts" and other miserable drudgery
- >On top of that, he'd decided to kick off the cleanse by cornering an impette and her child, ready to slay them both
- >That really irked you. You have a soft spot for imps.
- >Many of the other attendants to Your Master that you'd spent your career with were imps. They'd been the first ones to extend a proper welcome to you after you'd been pulled down, to help you adjust to your new life, to make you understand your new purpose
- >You weren't going to let him get away with hurting one of them
- >You call out his name, and as he turns to you face you, put your spear right through his mask, between the eyes, and cleanly out the back of his head
- >As his empty body slumps to the ground, you turn on the rest of your unit
- >They're too shocked to mount any coordinated resistance as you cut them down
- >Insubordination among The Exterminators is unheard of, let alone open treachery
- >Their minds are simply incapable of comprehending what you're doing until your blades are already buried deep in their hearts
- -
- >You leave your spear planted in the body of your final victim
- >You don't need it anymore, and you don't want it
- >It's a horrible thing, a tool crafted with specific intent that it be used to do away with demons
- >What an awful device. It would be better if they didn't exist at all.
- >You help the impette to her feet and shoo her off down the road
- >You can remember a very good shelter in this part of The Pentagram
- >Very large, very sturdy. She and her impling will be safe there
- >You, however, have to keep moving
- >You came down here with a purpose, and you won't rest until it's been fulfilled
- ---
- “... and those that tasted the bite of his spear named him... the Doom Savior.”
- ---
- >Anon goes from a demon's servant to a exterminator-slaying badass.
- ---
- >Despite how much time has passed, you have no trouble finding your way to Your Master's estate
- >They'd kept you on a short leash at first, denying you access to the outside, but as you proved yourself a trustworthy pet, they'd granted you more and more leeway and allowed you to range further and further
- >By the time your mortal body had expired, you knew the best route from every part of The Pentagram
- >Now that you have wings, it's even easier to make your way home
- >It hardly takes you any time at all before you're touching down in front of the gates
- >Elation wells up in you like a newly tapped spring at the sight of the gate keeper
- >And, further up the knoll behind them, Your Master
- >They don't seem to share your excitement
- >In fact, they seem confused, frightened even, especially as you call out to them by name
- >Oh
- >Of course
- >You still have your mask on
- >How silly of you
- >You pry the heavy bundle of electronics from your face and throw it to the ground
- >The gatekeeper's stance slackens from nervous and guarded to absolutely stunned
- >You hear Your Master gasp
- -
- >Your Master breaks into a run, shouting at the gate keeper to let you in
- >You match their pace and rush to meet them as soon as your way is no longer barred
- >You collide with the demon in the middle of the garden
- >They scoop you off your feet and clutch you so tightly you'd fear they might break you if you weren't already on the far side of mortality
- >The sound of their joyous laughter fills your ears
- >You tuck your wings in against your back and sigh contentedly
- >In spite of all the hurdles and hardships you'd had to face, you got a happy ending after all
- >Your comrades are all dead, by your hand
- >Heaven is closed to you forever now
- >This inferno of sin will be your abode for eternity
- >You're in the arms of a greater demon, holding you close to their unholy heart
- >Everything is going to be okay
