  51.
  52. Name: Albert "Flicker" Poliard, or Al, or Ali, or Poly. Just don't call him Bert. He hates being called Bert.
  53.
  54. Born on Synposia to a single father who was oddly quiet about his profession, he was pushed into magical studies at a young age. He barely reached into his childhood however before it came crumbling down. Or rather, the corruption came raining down. A comet seething of vile intent smashed into the center of suburb he lived in, burying it underground as it warped reality. Deep below the surface the sun was replaced by a mockery that slowly dimmed and brightened as a simulacrum of the world above. The buildings, plants, and streets however twisted into a terrible labyrinth along with many of the people. The few that evaded corruption eventually went mad from paranoia and isolation, turning into hysterical scavengers that fought one another for looting rights of the 'stores' and houses that mysteriously restocked their shelves every week.
  55.
  56. Albert's father succumbed to corruption shortly after the event, but not before transferring his prototype suit to him. Unfortunately for Albert (beyond the fact his father was dead), the reality warping of comet's impact had scrambled the suit's AI, reducing it to the most basic of intelligence. It did however still allow him to fare better than other survivors in the twilight hell.
  57.
  58. During an outing searching for food that went particularly bad Albert frantically hid in one of the 'wild houses', a structure within the labyrinth that had unusually loose interpretations of reality. It was there he found Amanda, who turned her head completely around to look at him enter with curiosity. At first Albert was frozen with dread, and then hunkered against the far wall until he was able to leave again. The strange corrupted girl would continue to follow him after that though, and eventually began speaking with Albert after several encounters. Despite being an actually horrific monster, Albert's own questionable sanity due to the isolation drove him to quickly befriend 'her' soon after.
  59.
  60. As time passed, the corrupting effects of the comet became more intense. The other few survivors that Albert would occasional stumble upon became fewer and fewer, and the monstrosities and paradoxes became worse and worse. It became clear that even with his suit and the aid of his unusually sane turned friend, survival would not be possible forever down here. So the duo set out to do what had seemed suicide (at least for Albert, most of the aberrations were disinterested in Amanda) and try to cross the the labyrinth proper, to see if the path carved by the comet's impact still existed. To their great luck, it did. What they found however was nothing like Albert remembered. The remains of the actual suburb lay in ruins and taken by overgrowth, surrounded by a giant wall of concrete and steel. The area had at first been a quarantine, but became a slum soon after as desperate folk flocked to the unregulated and unoccupied land.
  61.
  62. Albert attempted to blend into a new life, but Amanda's inhuman nature despite a cobbled disguise of an oversized hoodie and a generous bandana caught the attention of a local agent of the militia: A man with the simple name of Steve. Normally Steve would use incriminating information to grow his network of contacts and stores of blackmail. But when he came to realize the true nature of Albert and Amanda, and the fact they were both from the SZ (Sealed Zone, the name given to the anomalous region a mile under the slum created by the Comet), he was at something of a loss. The fact Albert was in possession of an extremely advanced and powerful suit however made it impossible ot resist. But rather than exploiting them he arranged for them to work at one of the hang outs he frequented. It wasn't out of kindness, but just a way to keep them close and safe before he could figure out what to do with them.
  63.
  64. Despite not intending to give them a boon however, Albert quickly found the change in his life an improvement. He quickly went from cleaning the kitchen each night to entertaining the patrons for tips, using the same slight of hand he had developed below to perform 'real' magic tricks. Amanda also began to develop a better control over her own body during this time, mostly from her own desire to interact with the patrons like she saw Albert do. As Steve sat on the truth of the two, over the years he began to enjoy their company.
  65.
  66. Eventually Steve would press Albert into less 'ethical' services, to help in a heist that would benefit the Militia greatly. The target was a high-tech Appleton Industries facility, which had been developing a number of advanced cybernetic systems that had the potential to disrupt the market. The job was simple; an man on the inside, Dr Simon, was willing to give give them the passkey for the research server if they could break into his research rival's office and steal back a prototype memory module he had developed. Albert's role was to support a more veteran infiltrator, Nessa Dran (who was not a fan of working with unproven talent, but the payout was too good for her to resist).
  67.
  68. During the mission due to some accidents that happened on Nessa's side of the heist, Albert was the one who broke into the office and retrieved the memory module. Something however unexpected happened when he touched it; the scrambled AI in his suit transferred into the device and began defragging itself. Unaware of this however (and used to having to only have limited manual access to his suit's capacities), he delivered it to Dr Simon and the rest of the mission went on as planned. The success of the heist would be the first introduction he'd have with Stella Stern, the one who paid Steve to get the new wares stolen. Surprised by the truth of the both Albert and Amanda's background, she would end up relying on them in the future both as friends and assets.
  69.
  70. A week later, Dr Simon would contact Albert and drill him about what he had done to his module. Not in anger, but excitement as the previously fragmented AI had been rapidly 'germinating' on the advanced hardware. He wanted to study the AI's growth and capacities, but found that it was singularly obsessed with returning to the owner of the suit. After much enthusing about technical things that went over Albert's head, Dr Simon made an offer: he would 'lose' one of Appleton's new prototype Android bodies and install the memory module into it, and in return Albert would allow him access to the AI's personal access network for diagnostic observation (since only the designated owner could allow that level of access). He accepted, and a new friend joined Steve's happy little band of weirdos. The android also named itself "spelling", but when asked why the best explanation it can give is a series of tones.
  71.
  72. As for how he met Natascha, she works as Steve's 'fix it' girl. She doesn't particularly care about the militia, but enjoys the opportunities to dig into strange tech that comes with working for a completely legitimate businessman. Gets along surprisingly well with Amanda even after learning of her true nature, and along with Spelling and Albert have a pretty solid weekly game night.
