Subject: 857 Alarm (11/21/07)


The RIM received 11 alarms 0455 and 0459. S/O did an interior patrol, found Rob Yetters and Fred Wolters on site. S/O checked ID. All in order.

These 11 alarms brought the total up to 87 alarms for the night.  From 0058 to 0312, the RIM received 76 alarms. This is 1 alarm for approx. every 1 min 45 sec. And every time, it was from the same camera location in the southwest corner of the 857 warehouse. Every time, in the picture, there was nothing. Upon patrolling, there was nothing. This is not the first time this has happened as 1 night, the RIM received 259 alarms over a 2.5 hour span. This is a personal assumption, but the only conclusion that I (S/O Scott Young) have come to is equipment malfunction.

How can we, as security guards, take these alarms seriously when we know that 95% of them are false alarms? Do we need to wait until someone breaks in and walks off with a large amount of merchandise during one of these equipment malfunctions, because the guard on duty has started to ignore the 15 alarms in 3 minutes?
