  1. >A bright flash later, you and Chrysalis find yourselves at an entrance to a large forest
  2. >From seemingly out of nowhere, she pulls out a scrap of paper with a path drawn on it
  3. So, we gonna follow that to the "base"?
  4. >She nods
  5. >With nothing else to do, you start walking
  6. >It doesn't take long for you to feel at home, if not a little homesick
  7. >You start recalling the glory days that were your childhood
  8. >When you and your friends would play in the woods off behind the house
  9. >You used to sneak out at night with them sometimes, and explore the forest
  10. >Walking through these woods, while unfamiliar, is comforting
  11. >At least, it would be
  12. >While you walk in reverie, it seems cheese legs isn't so comfortable here
  13. >You would write it off as nervousness in the face of the unknown you were searching for
  14. >But what convinces you otherwise happens soon enough
  15. >You step right onto a dry twig, and of course it snaps
  16. >You hardly notice it, lost in your memories
  17. >But Chrysalis does
  18. Eep!
  19. >She squeaks, and moves closer to you
  20. >...
  21. >You can't help it
  22. Bwahahaha!
  23. >She looks really flustered, but still tries to glare at you
  24. >You lower your laughter to a chuckle, and keep walking
  25. >But you can't resist the chance to tease her
  26. >So the next time she wildly glances around, you pick up a thick, dry leaf
  27. >A few minutes later, you reach one hand behind her head with the leaf
  28. >And crack it, making what sounds to her like a loud snap
  29. >She whips around to try and find the source of the noise
  30. >All she finds is you laughing
  31. Stop that!
  32. >She cries out, but you mostly ignore her and keep laughing
  33. >She keeps yelling at you, angry at you for obvious reasons, but you can't take her seriously when she's so wound up
  34. >Such fun
  35. >Not much longer though, you both shut up
  36. >It would seem you're arriving at the "base"
  37. >There are indeed changelings strewn about
  38. >Their corpses litter the area
  39. >The queen goes from wound tight from fear to sad in grievance
  40. >You stand in silence as she goes to each body, kneel down, and mutter something to each one
  41. >Each mangled corpse had something spoken to them
  42. >It takes her some time, but she takes it
  43. >And you wait
  44. >You know better than to interrupt
  45. >This is serious, unlike the walk here
  46. >When she finishes, she walks back to you
  47. >Muttering to herself
  48. >You listen closely, and you hear her
  49. I'll kill them for this... I'll kill them... I'll...kill them all
  50. >You start to feel a little on edge now
  51. >You haven't seen her this angry before
  52. >Then again, you haven't known her for too long
  53. >In a solemn silence, you help her move the bodies
  54. >Today, you learn new magic
  55. >Magic that you wish you'd learned some other way
  56. >Levitation, to move the bodies
  57. >Another type of psychic force to interact with things and dig the graves
  58. >And after filling the graves with tinder, you learned fire magic
  59. >...
  60. >As the funeral pyres burn, you look to the queen
  61. >The queen of these changelings, who had been slaughtered so innocently
  62. >She had tears forming in her eyes
  63. >Small at first, but they grow
  64. >You take a seat next to her
  65. >She looks at you for a moment
  66. >With eyes full of tears, about to spill over
  67. >Then she looks away, back to the 23 flames
  68. I sent them here
  69. >She says, her voice threatening to crack
  70. There was a changeling who went missing in this forest
  71. >As she speaks, the first tear slowly makes its trail down her face
  72. I twenty two of my own children here.
  73. >The tears now flow at a slow, but steady rate
  74. Sent them to their deaths....
  75. >She sniffles
  76. Look at me... The great queen, crying in front of a stranger....
  77. >You can't help but feel anything other than a sad sympathy
  78. >She must truly treat all of her subjects like her own children
  79. >You can scarcely imagine what she's feeling now, but you do know one thing
  80. >And that's how to comfort someone who's feeling down
  81. >You scoot closer to her, and wrap her into a tender hug
  82. It's ok
  83. >You whisper in her ear
  84. >She looks up at you, tears now streaming down
  85. You didn't know. You couldn't know
  86. >You keep saying things like that to her, holding her tight
  87. >As the flames went on burning, her tears slowly start to fade
  88. >But she never leaves your grasp
  89. >Not even when it started raining
  90. >After a moment or two of raining, you had the brilliant idea to put up a shield over the two of you
  91. >At this point, the queen has fallen asleep in your arms
  92. >When the rain stopped hitting you, she snuggled closer
  93. >It's so cute, you don't have words for it
  94. >You just sigh contentedly, and finish the funeral service by filling the graves the rest of the way with dirt and using the new magic to bring over sizable stones
  95. >On each one, you carve a message into it:
  96. You shall be remembered evermore by your mother, leader, and queen
  97. Farewell
  98. >With that complete, you slowly lay down
  99. >You manage to do so with Chrysalis still cuddled up in your arms
  100. >With a smile on your face, you look to the sky through your shield
  101. >You can see the rain coming down, and hear it as it taps out a rhythm
  102. >Soon, it lulls you into sleep
  103. >A deep, peaceful sleep
  104. >Filled with dreams of your childhood friends; playing games joyfully with you in the woods
