- first off, my position is probably biased, and i'm not gonna hide that. but rt pays my house's bills. however, that's also given my household some insight on this shit.
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- including all the ways the company has changed, ESPECIALLY in the last two years, including reviewing literally every employee's pay rate and bumping them up to market
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- they've been in a hiring freeze for years. crunch got worse because WB wouldn't let them hire more help. they made an exception in the broadcast position kels got into because podcasts was one place they were expanding and they literally only had one dedicated podcast editor.
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- people have come out to apologize repeatedly in the last couple of years for how things have been in the past, kdin even mentions that to michael after his response
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- geoff's got a lot of work to do
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- but also, geoff. has not. been a company lead for a long time. he's a creative lead. there's a board above him and they are out of touch with what the rest of the company wants
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- and there have been several things that the board has NOT done because of the backlash in the company over that ethical response
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- rt did not want to dissolve matt's position lmao
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- that's why they're pissed, that's why so many of the public faces of the company are yelling about it
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- i guess tl;dr on this is, right now WB is imploding due to its own stupid decisions. RT has been fighting them every step of the way the last two years. kdin was not a lone warrior in the justice side of things, she was a literal appointed figurehead to bring the many people's concerns to the frontlines, and WB shot her down
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- RT has been doing tons of internal review over the last two years, ESPECIALLY after ryan. it's also not a company that "boasts inclusivity," it's made up of incredibly diverse people and that gets more true every time they do manage to bring someone on board. look at joe, bk, and ky. look at how they have defended bk and ky especially.
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- i will not ever say these things were not issues. it's VERY public that they were.
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- but people change, and i have never seen a company put forth the effort to become better people the way RT has
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- kels' position is also a little privileged because her dept is run by a gay man who has made broadcast the ideal for the company. her experience has been the literal polar opposite of kdin's and she's been working with them for 4 years now
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- it's just. really difficult to see this thing exploding so hugely during the healing process of fixing these things when the level of backlash on things that are already long-addressed could literally cost us our financial stability.
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- also: they've been moving people out from under WB's umbrella to another system to safeguard jobs, and have been paying for all the benefits to remain the same out of their own pocket instead of using WB's insurance
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- they've also been using that system to pay people more
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- as in, WB won't allow for upward mobility in the company right now, so they're promoting this way to take care of their workers better
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- scrubs at face
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- hopefully i don't look like an ass here
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- kdin's not a liar and she's valid, it's just shit they're already actively working like crazy on
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- and she's rightfully pissed af, but i really just don't like her acting like it's barely anybody trying to make it a better place, because that's just. false.
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- genlock s2's bullshit was ESPECIALLY a company-wide cry that she carried to WB's door and got told to fuck off about
- sᴀɴᴛᴏʀʏᴜₒ
- i hope this kicks the company head's ass into getting his shit together
