  1. Moisture-Weathered Journal
  2.
  3. *most pages are illegible from water damage*
  4.
  5. Day 6
  6.
  7. The flora in this area is typical for a jungle of this type, however I remain entirely baffled
  8. by the aggressiveness of the plants here. It is as if they have some method to sense movement,
  9. or perhaps have some kind of internal mechanism that picks up subtle changes in air pressure or
  10. vibrations in the ground. At the presence of prey, the entire plant shifts its leaves and vines,
  11. not content to ambush its prey, but to wrestle it down as if some mammalian predator.
  12.
  13. Day 8
  14.
  15. I came upon a lone carnivorous plant, it's stem severed from some large clawed animal, likely
  16. the native panthers. Seems it chose it's prey foolishly. I took the opportunity to take some
  17. cuttings and close up sketches. The roots were of particular interest; anchored so firmly within
  18. the ground that I elected to simply dig around them. I gave up after a number of hours, the roots
  19. remained fast within the earth and seemed to continue even further.
  20.
  21. Day 14
  22.
  23. Returning to the hunting ground of the Lynx pack, I was surprised to see it empty. The tracks and
  24. signs of yesterday's struggle were there, so I was in the right place. I elected to wait. I must
  25. have dozed off, or simply was half asleep as I next saw something neither flora nor fauna. It was a
  26. great mass of darkness, hovering only feet off the jungle floor. Moving nothing like simple fog,
  27. darting here and there. I blinked in shock, and it was gone.
  28.
  29. Note to self: Omit this last incident, was only a product of sleep deprivation, and has no place as
  30. a scientific observation.
  31.
  32. Day 25
  33.
  34. I must find it. This thing that doesn't eat nor rest, a thing that may not even be physical. When it
  35. arrives I feel it, like a crawling dread. And then it bursts from the earth leaving no trace, madly
  36. seeking much as I am. Both of us uncertain, ambling through the forest. Then once more, diving back
  37. into it's earth, or perhaps pulled there? Perhaps it seeks freedom, this shadow, for something deep
  38. within the earth? Or a reflection of Nidhogg yearning to shatter the World Tree's bonds? My questions
  39. remain never answered.
  40.
  41. But now must I sink.
